Radford sells out game vs VT; First Sellout since 2009

Big South member Radford expects a standing-room-only crowd of as many as 4,000 fans at the 3,215-seat Dedmon Center. On Tuesday, Radford sold out of the 1,800 tickets it had made available to the public. Another 1,700 tickets have been set aside for Radford students. This is Radford's first sellout since the Highlanders hosted VMI in the 2009 Big South title game.

Radford is pumped to get the Hokies in their building (first time VT has played in Radford). It's definitely going to be a tough environment tonight for a team that hasn't faced a road game, yet.

These guys better win...I fucking hate some of the people who went there. Everytime i'd go to visit, they would always become giant assholes when they found out I went to VT.

I'm not from VA, will someone explain this Radford/VT dynamic to me?

Radford is about 20 minutes from VT

I knew that much, are they pretentious/hate VT/little brother mentality/drug war?

little brother mentality

Pretty much little brother syndrome. When I was in school, Radford had the rep of being full of the kids that couldn't get into VT. Can't speak to whether or not that's actually true, but that was the narrative. Radford threw crazy parties so the VT kids wanted to go over for those, Radford kids wanted to be close enough to VT to go to football games, etc.

"Exit light..."

The only reason I went to Radford for 2 years was because I didn't get into the College of Engineering right out of high school. I had to go there to get my grades up and transfer in.

not to mention that historically Radford was a teaching college and as such populated mostly by females. Tech being a former military academy was populated mostly by males. Males who would go over to Radford and hook up with Radford ladies, much to the consternation of the Radford men.

In recent history both universities have transitioned into much more even gender balances, but the whole 2nd class university thing still applies

Wiley, Brown, Russell, Drakeford, Gray, Banks, Prioleau, Charleton, Midget, Bird, McCadam, Pile, Hall, Green, Fuller, Williams, Hamilton, Rouse, Flowers, Harris, Chancellor, Carmichael, Hosley, Fuller, Exum, Jarrett

Part of that time they were all female at Radford, so it was just the locals that would be angry the Cadets were coming over to take the women.

I'M OLD GREG

Do ya love me!? Are you playing those love games with me!?

Such a classic.

Radford actually started as VT's woman's college, fun fact.

Our motto bringing spirit true, that we may ever serve you

To most VT guys, it still is! Bazzingga!

Simple: they didn't get in

The Dude Abides

Pretty upset about it. My Pops and I were going to try and go.
But good for them. I hope we get our revenge from last season!!
GO HOKIES

@AMB4VT

Brother played for Radford...probably the only time I'm ever okay when Tech loses.

Always choose joy.

Is your brother Cole?

Depends on who's asking.

Fair. My Twitter account is linked to my TKP account.

Seriously questioning whether to go tonight or not. I received free general admission tickets and I am just not sure it is worth it to fight a crowd that is 800 over capacity.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

I was born in Radford and grew up across the New River. Both of my parents went to Radford in the early 80s. Most of the folks from my highschool graduating class who went to 4-year schools went to Radford.

That being said, I think Radford is an awful institution with no redeeming qualities in an awful city with no redeeming qualities (other than being home to the original Sal's Italian), and I hope we destroy them.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Sal's=the only reason I go to Radford (I live at Claytor Lake). I concur
Radford is awful.

@AMB4VT

River Company Brewery is worth the trip too.

are we forgetting pizza house?

I've only been to Pizza house once ~10 years ago. That was my mother's favorite spot when she went to RU though.

Ahhhhhh good ole Poony's. Ever since the old ladies sold the place it hasn't been the same.

My Dad is from Radford and his brothers still live there. My Mom and sister both went there, dad and I went to Tech. Tonight is a really weird game for us.

Every time my dad and I get Pizza House he says the same thing. The pizza is still top notch, but it just seems like something is missing since the old ladies sold it.

tell us how you really feel, fencer?

I don't really like Radford all that much.

I think Radford is an awful institution

Sorry, I disagree. Radford has some great programs, and they offer programs that Tech doesn't even have. Case in point: I want to go into physical therapy, and after talking to MANY physical therapists or people with knowledge on the subject, they said go to Radford OVER Tech. Tech's program isn't as good and Tech doesn't even offer a graduate program for physical therapy. Radford also has a great nursing program and Athletic Training program. Tech is superior in a lot of ways, but to say that Radford is an awful institution is downright wrong.

"GO BACK TO YOUR ROOM LITTLE BROTHER, THE CUP IS COMIN’ ON HOME!”

That's fair. I know Radford has a handful of programs that they excel at, particularly nursing.

However, compared to universities in Virginia Radford as a whole is second rate. It's the safety school's safety school.

Alas, I think this is a bigtime trap game and Radford is prepared to throw everything at us to win. VT has been an easy target for low-level schools to upset (see VMI, Radford last year, South Carolina Upstate, Alabama State, etc.). Buzz may not be used to this yet.

I think Buzz is used to trap games. He understands that every team has them and from the loss we had to Radford last year he knows this is one for our VT men's team now.

FIRST DOWN, HOKIES!

Well that's better than nothing I guess. Thanks for sharing!

The big south conference has a better streaming deal than the ACC? Figures

West Virginian by birth, Hokie by choice

I just laughed out loud. Good one Fencer!

@AMB4VT

Obligatory gif time:

please, please BEAT Radford for what they did to us on our homecourt last year!

TFW you can't watch the game because it isn't playing where you're stationed :(

The game is only available online on www.bigsouthsports.com

Their announcers were very pro Radford, but the signal strength was great.
