It appears the Hokies won't be the only team with coaching transitions taking play at the Independence Bowl. According to Sports Illustrated, Tulsa co-offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert will be named Texas' new offensive coordinator. Gilbert was a co-offensive coordinator for Dino Babers at Bowling Green before joining former Baylor offensive coordinator Phillip Montgomery as his OC at Tulsa.

The article doesn't indicate if Gilbert will stay on to coach the bowl game.
The Golden Hurricane offense averaged 502.8 yards per game this season and ranked No. 5 in passing offense and No. 6 in total offense among Group of 5 programs according to ESPN, who is reporting that Gilbert got a two year contract. \

Interesting, I wonder what effect if any it will have since he was the "co" OC.
He may stay on for the game. It's not like Texas is doing any game prep.

Texas is having a HUGE problem trying to convince any OC to come on-board because none of them know if it's a one year job or not with Charlie Strong possibly being a goner soon.

Seems to me that Texas can throw money at the problem, but also even if this is only two years, if you could improve Texas in two years, you probably can write your own ticket.

Yeah that's rough. I've heard they offered three-year contracts to other targets that turned them down so Gilbert knows the cards. May be able to negotiate a a longer or back-heavy contract / big buyout.
It is just crazy that Texas has turned into a situation like this.

Folks here aren't too happy with the whole situation, the whole thing was handled in a very indelicate and slipshod fashion. Since firing Steve Patterson, things have just snowballed downhill.. Charlie Strong's position is tenuous at best and yes, nobody really wants to come here in the present situation.. the mighty have fallen as they say.

Well, he had Baylor offense architect Montgomery as his HC. And like Baylor, they only run 4 plays.
Think about your career and what it would take for you to accept a job as unstable as the Texas job. 2x what you make? 3x?
If some of the contract rumors are true I'd take it. 900,000, can't be fired until after year two, plus associated costs of relocating etc. and my buddy gets a 500,000 job there also, I'd take it.
