Tons of news swirling in the last 48 hours or so about grants-in-aid being signed, forum is exploding, though it might be nice to have one thread keeping tabs on all recruits who have signed to enroll early.

Just saying that I love this entire line....we're spoiled here at TKP...and Thank you!!!!!
I notice a lot of talent, even though we didn't "win Virginia"...
one bright side, I was looking on 247 yesterday and browsing through our '16 commits and LOLUVA's, while 6 or 7 of our commits had an offer from little brother, only 1 of their commits had an offer from the good guys
3 very talented WRs and 2 extremely talented QBs...
Double-QB Trips formation confirmed!
Five linemen, two QB's, three WR's, and Sam Rogers.
The amount of pure offensive talent at the skill positions is going through the roof.
If Fuente lives up to his billing as an offensive wizard, we could be scary good in a very short time period.
Keep in mind we will still have a new QB, 1-2 true Freshman WR, and likely two new Tight ends. We return a lot of talent on both sides of the ball but there are some big question marks still
Wait what? 2 new TE? Even if Bucky leaves early they still have a Cline at one spot.
Cline hasn't really played since 2013. Technically he and Burke aren't new but they are still essentially replacing two starters
Disagree if your saying Cline is equivalent to Burke or a major step down. Everybody is starting over in a brand new system. And Cline is a stud. It's not like he had played much football before he had his breakout year either (including HS)
Probably the most under-utilized talent on offense this year and I'm pretty sure French said the same thing.
Cline is undoubtedly a step down from Malleck and Bucky, they will likely both be playing in the NFL next year. Cline had a great 2013, but he was hurt and sat out all of 2014 and he has barely played in 2015 when we had basically no depth at any offensive position but running back. I think it is way to early to say that Cline will return to his 2013 form, either way we are losing (or likely losing anyway) two NFL tight ends that is a big question mark going into next year. I hope that Cline returns to form and Burke lives up the hype but they aren't sure things
I seriously doubt Hodges will be in the NFL next season. No way he is any better than a 4th round pick this year, and his draft stock would only go up with more experience / development.
Apparently the TE class this year is BAD, and he rates as 3rd best.
yeah but if he was NFL ready he'd be the 1st TE in a weak class. Against the field overall I still can't see him going earlier than the 4th round. The NCAA pays for career insurance that's worth more than a 4th round pick's salary...
20 year olds don't always think long term though
Whispers are that Bucky is gone. I don't think he should but I am biased and want him to stay...
I didn't realize we were operating under the assumption of losing Bucky. If that's the comparison you're making, I agree. But I completely disagree with your evaluation of Cline and I can't imagine citing 2015 as an indication of anything going forward. Guess we'll see
I think Bucky is a good player but he could be great. I see a lot of untapped potential in his play. He's got the measurable a but I think another year would do him wonders. He won't get by on size and speed alone in the nfl. I see him staying.
We haven't seen Cline do anything in 2 years, yes we all hope he comes back to form but it is far from a sure thing.
Look at it this way: in 2016, everyone will be new at their position in Justin Fuente's offense. This is a perfect time to have a QB transition, because QB1 won't have to spend all offseason unlearning Lefty's scheme and replacing it with Fuente's. All the other skill positions will be learning a new scheme just like the early enrollees. Other than from a standpoint of conditioning and adjusting to the speed of the game at the P5 level, this spring will be a very level playing field.
All true, just keeping expectations in line when we have basically 4-5 new guys on the offensive side of the ball. Although if the offensive line can take another step forward and at least one of these three WR are any good, and Evans play to expectations we should be just fine. But that is a lot of if's
I would be amazed if we got worse next year, compared to this year and last year.
Keep in mind we still have a lot of Debbie downers like yourself for fans.
move to recruiting board.....?
Okay.
+1 thx
I didn't realize Jacksonville had so much talent.Just saw that's Jacksonville NC.
Both are awful in completely different ways.
Really I love the Jacksonville FL area, mostly the beach area but I think the whole metro area has a lot to offer.
Whew...almost thought you were talking about Jacksonville NC!... I was scared until I read "metro area"
Driving 95S through Jacksonville is ball crushingly awful.
That's a good way to describe 95 through there.
They don't
lol
My god. He hits her so hard. I hope she's okay.
If that's her husband laughing, he's going to have a hard night.
definitely not her husband.. here's the full vid
The "fan" gets revenge.
http://www.firstcoastnews.com/videos/news/features/2015/09/17/fan-hit-in...
My favorite mascot, the guy who played him until this year is a VT grad.
Jacksonville doesn't look as bad as people described it...
This is real? Not planned? Thats amazing!!
planned. Girl is a friend of Curtis Dvorak. The whole thing was staged and after it went viral and the twitters slammed Jaxson for being heavy handed with the cake they appeared on a local news set for the girl to exact her revenge. (Link above)
Or not hard night...
Magic is in the air and Joshua Jackson loves magic!

Fringe was such a good show. Took a while to hit its stride, but in Season 2 it really took off. Walter is one of the best characters to ever be on television. How John Noble never won any awards for his acting on Fringe is a mystery to me.
Binge watched it with my wife a few months ago. Loved the first 3 seasons then it just got way out there but it was still a great watch. The chemistry between the actors worked well together.
What did you think of the animated episode?
My wife watched that while I was doing some errands, got home right at the end of it, thank god. Evil Walter is what killed it for me. I loved goofy, rambling Walter.
It started off really well, got better, and then fell off a cliff
If I'm not mistaken, the writers strike was around that time.
Kinda like this thread........ ;-)
The scene where Olivia can see that Peter was from the alternate universe was an awesome reveal. Like others on here have said, the show started out great and then kinda tanked. The last season was really weak and I only watched because I had already invested so much time and wanted to see how it ended.
Only one in-state guy so far, surprising
Are VA high schools harder to graduate early from?
No, I just meant I didn't expect us to have that many out-of-state commits
Hmmm, where are the bigs?
These are all January enrolles. Calm down still plenty of recruiting to go.
So excited I may have to change my Depends.
The 2016 Recruiting Class:
My love for all things Harry Potter and for Fuente's recruiting efforts thus far have me smiling at this comment for totally different reasons.
OT but does UVA have anyone enrolling early?
Nothing against Joshua Jackson but Charlie Conway was the most overrated mighty duck of all time #shotsfired
Take it back you
You put Julie the Cat in net, Bash Brothers as your defensive line & Guy Germaine, Adam Banks and Dwayne Robertson as your forwards/center...Charlie isn't even in the first line but half of the movies about him #weaksauce
EDIT: And if Bombay wasn't trying to bang Charlie's mom, he's probably not even team captain. (Admittedly, I stole this point from this article)
#clutch
Does anyone know anything or have heard anything about this kid who is leaning towards VT prior to CFB declaring his retirement?
Landon Dickerson
He is a 4* rated O-lineman.
named a top 3..VT was not in the top 3 but Fuente and staff was trying to work on that
Great. Thanks. I hope he joins VT because now I'm all like:
And we don't have to wait until August for the QB competition.
Considering it will be Evans vs Motley and Lawson, we probably will
All three of them and Jackson will already be here for spring.
Wait so these guys have signed??
via GIPHY
Yeah, but it's not binding until they enroll in January.
This is what confuses me. I did some searching and found no definitive answer. I thought yesterday was the beginning of JUCO and mid-year enrollee NLI signing period. Does an NLI signed now not have the same force as one signed in February? I thought it was the same, these guys are just transferring or enrolling early.
Another one incoming! Guerry signal up!
JUCO OT.
OL!!!!!! 6-6 285 didn't he go to same JUCO as Reavis?
Staff has evaluated our roster and now is filling some areas of need quickly.
This fellow has reach and gets upfield.
Keep it coming!
Hey, something cool happened.
We beat out Grimes for an OL recruit. Ha-ha
J.B. Grimes that is.
Yes, he coached OL under Beamer 93-97. Sorry if this confused folks.
He is a very savvy OL recruiter
J. B. Grimes at Auburn =/= former VT coach Jeff Grimes at LSU.
J.B. Grimes coached OL at VT in the 90's.
Both are former VT coaches. But yes, J.B. Is > not = to Jeff.
Apparently he liked to be called Grimey
He's the guy who said the famous quote about Druckenmiller: "He's stronger than train smoke"
I read this as "J.B. Is greater than not equal to Jeff
Yessir, that's how it was intended to read (In response to GuitarMan's =/= comment). He may not have known that JB is also a former VT OL coach based on his post so I was going along with his "not equal to" comment haha
I knew that, but I've seen the mistake made on these forums before, so I posted as an FYI for anyone reading that. Just saying "Grimes" is ambiguous.
Good point. A lot of younger fans probably don't remember JB. I liked your "=/=" comment so I thought I'd run with it. No knock to Jeff G, but JB is the O.G.
(Original Grimes)
it's confusing because there is no punctuation. I had to read it several times before I realized what exactly you were trying to say. Maybe I'm just slow (extremely likely)
Waiting for confirmation that Demetri Moore is enrolling early. I assume as a JUCO, he would, but I've yet to see anything specifically confirm that. Or, in fact, any mention whatsoever of when he will enroll at Tech.

Denmark will stay with us
http://virginiatech.247sports.com/Bolt/Denmark-turns-down-South-Carolina...
I figured he wouldn't sign his grant-in-aid if he wasn't 100% certain, but its nice to get absolute closure on it.
Ladler had a full truck-load of offers.
I can't wait to see what he can do at DBU.
Now, if Mr. Pride would come back into the fold.....
Deablo abused Pride yesterday. Come to think of it, every WR he went up against abused him yesterday. He was not impressive at all. I would rather go all out on Bruton instead. But TG thinks differently.
What TG thinks is all that really should matter to us.
LOL, Yea you're right Clay Dean was a hell of a offer, thank god we got him, so many teams were after him. It's ok to disagree with coaches especially on offers.
Sorry forgot where I was posting.
When the offers that go out don't bring in enough kids to fit the scheme of a coach putting guys into the NFL every year then I'll worry. My resume doesn't have that on it does yours?
Lol you're missing the point that's fine though. You don't have to defend your argument.
I'm sure you will though.
CD was an offer from TG, I'm not sure what the hell he was thinking on that, but we have to honor our word. None the less it will likely be a grayshirt.
This is in no means of disrespect to coach Beamer or CD, but i can almost gaurentee that the coaches if met in a group would have not extended this offer! So tAke it as you will.
Absolutely. That was my point. Just because they are our coaches and good ones at that, does not mean they aren't wrong from time to time.
CD was an abysmal offer. Not offering Bruton and not going all out on Wayne Davis both from Lake Taylor is a monumental mistake. The problem is you say 757 is your #1 priority. Where the hell is Lake Taylor? 757. Two of the best DBs to come out of LT and you don't offer them? One goes to Temple the other to Ohio State. You guys can judge for yourselves if we messed up. Or if fireman is right and we shouldn't question some offers or lack thereof.
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2860095/highlights/319433503/v2
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3366437/highlights/319439500/v2
Bruton has a VT offer according to rivals, ESPN and 247.
Per multiple insiders TG blew him off and never offered. Evan, Czy, TCB. No matter how many times you edit this, per insider reports there is no offer for Bruton. Since we put more on Twitter than insider reports go back and look at Brutons he came here in June/July looking for a offer at a camp and never got one.
So
oneTHREE sources say he was offered another says he wasn't yet we should believe a coach and team that prides themselves on talent evaluation just blew off a kid. I find that hard to believe.I know I know our coaches do no wrong. It's not like TG has ever blown off a recruit. Oh wait.........
http://www.thekeyplay.com/content/2015/february/3/kevin-toliver-did-not-...
Yea you must be new to keeping track of recruiting.
Also in the world of recruiting websites one of these is not like the others. If you want to put money down on something Rivals spouts be my guest.
247>ESPN>Rivals>Yahoo
Really you honestly think that really happened? VT coaches have done plenty wrong but to assume they just didn't offer kids or didn't really try to recruit a kid or didn't bother to say hello is a joke and just you looking to find something to yell gotcha about.
So I bring facts to the table, and you don't, you can't back your argument when I can.
So you pick up your ball and take it home cause you can't win. Good talk.
What facts? You claim to know all this "inside info" guess what unless you were in the rooms with these kids or coaches you don't know anything more than anyone else behind a keyboard does. You think the coaches should be doing better then throw your name in the hat and get a job, they have plenty of staff positions in college football with all your knowledge you should be snatched up soon enough.
Lol someone is mad because he isn't right. I'm sorry. I'll leave the info above for anyone that wants to read it. And by all means if I post again and you don't like it because it has #sources just skip it and keep thinking you know everything, and I know nothing. Just keep posting your .gif's.
Here is the thing we both only know what others tell us. Neither you nor I are a part of the staff at VT and are not part of the recruits inner circle.
Am I missing something? The facts you "brought to the table" is a thread about an article that some LSU beat writer wrote?
Yea...... I have a hard time imagining TG didn't say hello to a 5* recruit on a visit
There is a lot that goes into recruiting that we never see. Does he have the grades? Does Tech have his major? Does he want to play instate? Does he fit our culture? TG isn't Larry Coker just handing out offers to every player with a star rating. If a player has no interest in Tech, it just looks desperate to give out offers.
I get what you are saying but if a highly touted recruit is on campus, I'm sure the coaches would at least say hi
The facts are from 247. I hate having to go back and give people cliff notes yet here we are.
Fact 1: Bruton was never offered, even though 757 is a priority. These two kids were wrapped up and delivered, by another on staff yet TG blew them off.
Fact 2: While offered we did not pursue Wayne Davis, read back to fact #1. They were locks.
Fact 3: Doing this burns bridges in the 757, at Lake Taylor. Hey guess where the 5th ranked player in the state is from next year?
Fact 4: if you have a 247 sub. Go read what went down with Tolliver this has been confirmed.
Fact 5: TG offered Clay Dean without talking to anyone else. Go watch his tape and honestly ask yourself if he is ACC quality. He is Willenbrock all over again.
Fact 6: Fireman said we shouldn't question the CD offer because TG puts people into the league. Yes he does, he puts DBs into the league, not DL. However to that point neither does Charley Wiles.
If any further clarification is needed about facts then by all means ask away.
While you're at it google Kevin tollivers parents. Watch any video. The mom and dad seem like nice people but I felt a little uncomfortable listening to the number of times they referred to themselves in the recuiting process.
I think you may be reading into something that may not be there.
They had a problem with a lot of programs.
Torrain has had endorsements from a lot of parents including the Fullers and Edmunds who have been cheerleaders for the coaching staff
LOL, I am new around TKP but how much "going back and giving people cliffs notes" have you done since joining two weeks ago? Do you also post under another name (or another site) that I might go look at your body of work?
I wouldn't consider the article you referenced or most of your bullet points as provable facts. They may all be 100% accurate but hearsay nonetheless.
Your calling into question his special 247 access FACTS!! How dare you.
Yea you are right. Once again forgot where I was posting. No one on the paid sites are to be paid any mind. However this free site is to be counted on without question, or you are considered a heretic. Lol, give me a break. If you want to back up what you are saying any thing of substance that does not come directly from a recruit's quote on this board is not true is 100% hearsay.
I have lurked here for a long time. Decided to join so I could more easily keep track of the articles. Have been on TSL since 1997, was on HokieHaven from 2005 until CZY left for 247 shortly after Korren Kirven blew us off. Yea so I think I've had plenty of time and posts in my lifetime where people don't read the entire conversation and instead need cliff notes. I hope this helps you understand that this isn't the only board out there and other boards have been around for much longer.
Also we need a ignore feature here so we can ignore people that don't bring substance to a conversation and instead just post gifs.
If you don't want to participate in the conversation and respond respectfully to people, feel free not to. Your ability to parrot back information told to you by other sources does not necessarily make you more credible and therefore there is no need for the massive superiority complex you're bringing. If you want to share something, great, please do. If people are skeptical, leave it at that rather than engaging in this condescending behavior. Moreover, quit playing the victim card. That makes you look even less credible. The whole "I forgot where I was posting" thing is usually used by people who just like to stir the pot. We like debate, discussion, and good information. Skepticism is part of that, because if someone can defend an assertion, it is a good thing and is valuable to this community. TKP does not, contrary to many assertions, care for only a single narrative driven purely by homerism.
I don't know where I wasn't respectful. Was it where I said an ignore feature was needed? If someone takes offense to that, then I don't know what to say. I am just figuring out how this site and it's people work at the moment. So let me make sure I got this right on how to post here and you let me know if I have it figured out.
1. Twitter from a recruit/player/coach is good
2. gifs that bring nothing to a conversation are good
3. Anything posted here by a mod is correct
4. Anything from 247, TSL or any website of the like is frowned upon, and considered less than what TKP brings to the table.
Once again this isn't being said to be demeaning or standoffish I'm really trying to give information and posts that would be informative and trying to figure out the best way to do that.
If you don't see the condescension in your posts, I can't help you.
Yes, direct, public statements from the people involved are to be believed.
The random tangents are part of the unique culture here. It's just in fun. If you don't like it, fine. But most people engage and have a good time.
Technically, I'm the only moderator and I never made such a claim. Reporting done by Joe and the rest of the TKP staff is vetted as far as they can, using direct information wherever possible. It doesn't make the front page if it isn't believed to be credible.
Again, categorically false.
It's cool to bring information from other sources. Really, it is. But when your response to anyone who doubts it is (effectively) "well I get what I know from these other guys who know what they're talking about" and then telling people they're simply wrong and "picking their ball up and going home" is not a productive exchange that would lead people to want to believe you or converse with you. It's fine to state your source, and you should. If there's skepticism, so be it.
If you want to ignore people, feel free. But there will not be such a feature implemented here. If you don't like a certain discussion, you can collapse a sub-thread to ignore it yourself. That's the little button at the top of the comment box. Hit that and you won't have to suffer through anything you don't want to see.
Cool beans thanks. Also can you make certain users automatically collapse? It would be a pretty easy fix if not.
FWIW, I don't understand all the negative attention your posts brought. I appreciate the info and different perspective on things. Hope you keep posting here.
Thank you. I will however I will probably just post articles and the like. It's not worth having to defend yourself on something you've read somewhere else.
I agree. I went through and upvoted all of his posts in this thread earlier today. He should keep doing him. I've seen this thing happen in a few threads lately, but it isn't worth the hassle of pointing it out (like he tried to do).
Dude, keep doing you. There are people who appreciate it.
in general I would guess that coaches treat recruit visits and conversations with discretion. In other words, it is in the best interest of the team to not give out details of the process. The recruits on the other hand are young and usually involved with several forms of social media.
The result? A single source of info which is biased one way or another. If the kid chooses tech he speaks highly... If not to then it might not be so glowing.
If there is one thing I would expect from the Hokie staff it would be to be honest with the kids and not lie to get them here. Though the best policy, the truth sometimes creates hard feelings and young men venting on social media is understandable.
It is fun to read analysis and reports and speculate, but as far as I can tell the only way to judge the recruiting is by the results. Do we end up with competitive players who we are proud to have as Hokies?
Just because 247 (or whoever) says we should be pulling out all stops to get this guy, it doesn't mean the staff agrees. It is their job to identify and go get the right players.
Fact: you didn't state a single fact in your post.
You keep using the word "Fact"
Sigh, you clearly don't know what a "fact" means.
1. Wrong, http://virginiatech.247sports.com/Season/2016-Football/Offers?RecruitSta... clearly shows an offer. Even from your gospel, 247.
2. Not a fact, purely speculation. dictionary.com/speculation should help you with that big word. And its not even good speculation, considering we have 2 coaches listed as recruiters for someone who we weren't pursuing. Again, from your source: 247.
3. Like JC Coleman and others from Oscar Smith helped land Sweat?? Please, each recruit is going to go where they want. Wrong again.
4. Confirmed by people who weren't there? Please re-read the definition of fact vs speculation.
5. You like to stick to a theme, I'll give ya that. No first hand sources have said anything to even lead one to believe this is true. Again, speculation.
6. Sure, its true TG doesn't put DL into the league. Wiles however has, and will continue to do so. Source: Tapp, Hopkins, etc. (Granted, its not a high rate of DL to NFL, still happens)
But please, tell us all how the weather is up on your paid high horse.
http://www.recruit757.com/oscar-smith-db-lands-hokie-offer/
Another site that says he has an offer. One the looks at just 757 recruiting.
You are right I am wrong he has a offer from every single college that plays football. We went after him hard and lost out to Temple. I'm sorry for questioning you.
Man, you really are coming across as a dipstick.
Just done with arguing something that isn't true.
Seriously how old are you? I've listed 4 sites including the one you say is the best who say he has an offer, yet you don't believe it. I'm not saying the coaches went after the right way or hard enough I'm only pointing out that clearly he had an offer from VT.
I know he does you've shown me and I'm clearly in the wrong I'm sorry.
If you're done arguing a point, then be done rather than trying to get the last sarcastic word.
I was apologizing to him. Once again sorry.
Did you used to have a different handle of another decepticon from transformers?
What is that? ShockWave has been my nametag since Dreamcast. Go watch the movie Broken Arrow. That's where I got it from.
Broken Arrow
Oh, I thought it came from a roller coaster at Kings Dominion
Busch Gardens>Kings Dominion
does anybody else see the comic irony in this post?
Busch Gardens must be better because, like TKP, it does not have ShockWave.
http://m.richmond.com/business/local/article_751d0234-a8bc-584c-b043-728...
Neither does KD anymore.
well that just ruins the joke...
If I was tech-savy, I'd post Rodney King's can't we all just get along...
Reading all of the back and forth here, I think one clarification could be helpful. I have been on lots of message boards since the 90's as well (never Rivals) and focussed (obsessed) most of my attention on recruiting. I can say for certain that CZY and TCB exist - I have met both - and that they speak directly with the coaching staff, and getting info directly from them.
It needs to be remembered that while the info comes from the coaches, it is only info the coaches believe to be true. For example, many times a coach is convinced that recruit A is going to commit, when recruit A is playing said coach. This causes quite the furor on the boards. This situation with the offers, or lack thereof, could just be a case of miscommunication somewhere along the line. There could have been an offer given, then pulled, that isn't going to be explained because it is not for general consumption, as well.
Bottom line: There really are guys out there with good access to what the coaches are thinking, and they are distributing SOME of what the coaches are THINKING. "Facts" are very elusive in recruiting.
FACT: Anybody who starts a statement with "FACT:" should have all credibility immediately stripped...
oh..shi*
Bruton had a committable offer while at OS. Something changed when he went to Lake Taylor. Also in other news, TCB and CZY are cool as hell IRL aren't they?
For the DV people go read this. Here
Honestly, I was introduced to both by a mutual friend, and only spoke to them briefly. The mutual friend also posts, I believe, on 247, but under a different handle than when we used to be on TCBs recruiting board. There were LOTS of guys in the recruiting know on that site, until it was sabotaged. 2005 range... was a good time while it lasted.
Forgot, also, to point out in my other post that recruits are allowed to say whatever they want about offers to places like Rivals, while coaches are not allowed to comment at all.
"Offers" are not always what they appear to be. Recruits play games and say they have offers, and no one can refute it.
Hey coach, what happened with TCB007's website? I was a subscriber, but drifted away and never got the full story.
"Hey coach, what happened with TCB007's website?"
Sorry, that's privileged pay info available only on my newsletter. s/
I really never got the whole story on that, but I didn't pursue it either. I try to just stay out of what I call "internet lawyer" threads. I know one guy that I like a lot kind of lost his cool - maybe drinking a bit - shit happens. Posted some stuff he shouldn't. Then there was someone using internet skills nefariously, to get into the business of good guys that posted on the site and cause them trouble in their real lives - just totally unreal - and I think THAT was when the decision was made to just shut it down. The site was never about making money (pretty sure TCB is all set in that department)- it was like 10 bucks a year or something. It was just a place to talk recruiting, and chew the fat like you were at a tailgate. I really enjoyed it, because I couldn't get to games very often, and it was a shame when it went away.
Thanks coach, I enjoyed it too.
This was talked about the other day, in short. Here
Absolutely and if CZY says there isn't an offer I trust him because of who his sources are.
And this is why I fear for our fan base.
So what you're saying is that we offered a scholarship to a prospect, and because he switched high schools we changed our mind? I just cannot envision any coach calling a recruit and saying "Lolz jk about that offer now that you changed high schools". It, along with some of your statements, make no sense.
That's not what I said at all I can't post everything needed because most of it is behind a paywall. But let's just say a certain coach had Wayne Davis and Bruton wrapped up, even offering them scholarships. However another coach didn't want to mess with them. If you have a sub go to 247 and search the Tunnel about Bruton. You will get all you need to know on the situation.
Its almost exactly what you said. At least be accountable for the shit you post.
I am lead to believe that he had an offer, then changed high schools. And after that change, we rescinded our offer. This is all true only because you pay a monthly fee to see #sauces put it in writing? Are you starting to see why we think this makes no sense?
Like Fireman before you, you need to use your skills of deduction. I will not post stuff behind any pay wall here. I have provided one link sort of outlying what had happened. However if you are just here to argue then yes they both have committable offers, and nothing is wrong. We were just beat out by Temple and OSU recruiting these guys.
Yes, that's probably what happened. OSU beats us out for recruits all the time, and sometimes we will beat them. These are 17 year old kids... The other kid probably felt that Temple prioritized him more than us and he likes his ego being stroked. But to insinuate that we dropped an offer just because of a change in high school is laughable. And to say that this prevents us from recruiting at Lake Taylor is just as flawed an argument.
BTW you should definitely let TG know that he is doing a sub par job. It sure seems that way with Fuller, Faycson, Jarret, Fuller, Exum, Hosley... just to name a few. I mean, what a terrible coach.
If you consider that it is not known why the HS change was made, it could make a lot of sense. As has been said, there is a lot going on that we don't know, nor will ever know. And some things are known, but will never be put on message boards by responsible people.
This 100% this. If you want to know the full breakdown. Get a subscription I can't post stuff behind pay wall.
I just love folks that conclude how well real professionals -- who are held accountable for their successes and failures -- do their job by looking at star ratings given by a bunch of unaccountable amateurs....
Professionals in their own right. It's the same thing as film breakdown from French. They are film analysts that go to recruit camps and all star games that give the kids ratings.
..aaaaaaaaand you lost me
Sorry I was saying that if he was going to say that the talent evaluators are amateurs then the same could be said for French. (I don't believe that, just based on the criteria given)
These guys breakdown film, go to recruiting camps, and watch the kids live. Then give an evaluation based on film they see and what they see in person.
However unlike French that's all these guys do. So by saying they are unaccountable amateurs, by that standard we should also take what French breaks down with a grain of salt. (Again I don't believe is the case and is a uninformed statement)
I don't have a dog in this fight, so jokes aside, this will be my last comment on the topic.
I know virtually nothing about the inner workings of the recruiting world. I know nothing about the way coaches conduct their business on the recruiting trail nor do I know anything about how the recruit ranking services function.
That being said, French is absolutely an amateur in the sense that you're placing him in. Yes, he has extensive playing background and he is undeniably extremely knowledgeable about the game of football. However, he does his film reviews for the benefit of a public online community and, If I'm not mistaken, because he really enjoys doing it. He's not, to my knowledge, being compensated accordingly for his efforts. Because he does his film reviews for fun as a hobby, it does not matter what the quality of his work is when referring to him as either an amateur or a professional.
I think it is silly for you to imply that French is a professional film analyst in your analogy because French is not a professional film analyst. He may very well be as knowledgeable, or even more so, than a professional, but he does it as a hobby, not as a source of income.
To me it sounds like you are arguing that the recruit ranking services are run by professional evaluators and that calling them amateurs is equivalent to calling French an amateur film analyst. The problem with your argument is that French is, in fact, an amateur film analyst.
I cannot defend Marcb2's comment on the amateurism of the recruiting service contributors because I do not know whether or not they are considered professional evaluators. I have to believe that if they are supporting themselves/families on their evaluations alone that they would have to be deemed professionals. Their accountability would also influence their success. If they do it on the side and have other means of income I would consider them amateurs and their accountability in this case isn't as important to them. Again, I don't know the case for them. I just think your argument is flawed on this point.
What I was trying to say was if we accept Frenchs film breakdown as gospel and say the 247 talent evaluators are trash amateurs that argument in itself is flawed.
I have yet to see anyone claim French's work as gospel so your argument still makes no sense to me. Again, I have no idea whether the talent evaluators at 247 are pros or 'trash amateurs' so I can't really comment on that. Your argument that calling them amateurs equates to calling French an amateur doesn't make sense. That is all.
Ok gospel might not be the right word. However if we are going to acceptb247 evaluators amateurs and they do that for a living any film breakdown French does should be taken with a grain of salt.
One problem, though, is that while professional scouts are good at what they do, they aren't scouting the majority of recruits. The pool of recruits is too large to do film breakdown on every recruit, so by and large the recruiting services stick with the established pipelines/major high school football programs. In-depth analysis probably goes into the ratings of a few hundred recruits, probably nowhere near a thousand. Those recruits round out the Top 250/Top 247/Top 300 and the recruits who just missed that cut. But for the vast army of 2 and 3 star recruits, the services base the initial ranking almost exclusively on who has offered them. They lean on the analysis of the programs themselves to get a kid on their radar. Then they might look over the tape on a kid the missed and bump them up a little. There's just too much evidence that offers affect rankings to assume in-depth independent analysis of all recruits by the services.
That is also why 247 has a composite score. Look at someone like Demetri Moore. 247 doesn't have him ranked except for their generic 3 star rank (that's going to change soon hopefully) But he is still a high 3 in their composite. Offers and commits from certain schools absolutely have an effect on the ratings. It has been discussed as much by CZY in the last 12 hrs. However the kids they do rate are pretty accurate.
However you are correct the kids with multiple P5 offers are more likely to get rated in a timely fashion. Then you have the kids that aren't even rated because they only have one year of starting HS ball under their belt.
But to call them amateurs is uninformed.
You're beating a dead horse with the "any film breakdown French does should be taken with a grain of salt." angle. It doesn't make sense for your argument. I'm neither agreeing with nor disagreeing with your argument in general. I'm simply pointing out that the analogy you've made between recruiting services and French doesn't make any sense for your argument. French is an amateur film analyst who does this as a hobby and to help people who don't have the football IQ that he does try to understand the game a little more. I think everyone here takes what they want from French. I, personally, love his write ups because I didn't play football and his reviews help me to understand the game on a deeper level than I ever thought I'd be able to. I still don't take anything and everything he says (writes) as absolute undisputed fact. I know I'm not the only one in that boat. People on TKP have questioned French before and they will continue to do so in the future. It's one of the beautiful characteristics of TKP...the community fosters healthy discussions.
Trying to argue that "if you're going to call recruiting services amateurs then you have to concede that French's work must be taken with a grain of salt" does absolutely nothing to fortify your argument that the recruiting services actually know what they're talking about. To this point I have no idea how credible these services are and your argument does little to convince me that they are actually credible. If anything, comparing them to French in this manner does more to convince me that they are amateurs than anything else. It's a weak argument and you should take another angle.
I dont really know why they would say Bruton doesnt have an offer,
a quick look at both their twitter accounts, they themselves and Hokie recruiting's twitter handle seem to think they have offers. Im not really sure how us offering them, getting them to visit, etc classifies Torrian Gray as dropping the ball?
You never know. I still remember Luther Maddy being a horrible offer.
Did Pride commit with someone else?
Notre Dame?
Not yet. Clemson offered him a few days ago. Maybe he'll pull a Mook on them.
I don't really have a dog in this fight, but I'll just ask that everyone clean up after themselves once the pissing contest is over.
That's what pee bibs are for. I'll put one in your stocking.
After waking up and grabbing my coffee I hop on TKP...

But we did define the difference between professionalism and amateurism.

So from yesterday it dawned on me after reading the jjcopeland post here that recruiting is MUCH more than just a coach. We ( or maybe just I ) tend to think its all on the coach recruiting the kid and thats it. But after looking at a lot of the other programs around the country's support staffs, its pretty clear why we had fallen off in recruiting lately. I know we dont list all of our football staff positions but I am certain we arent even close to Georgia's Staff.
I really dont know much about the process, but from the outside looking in, it looks like:
Two years ago we were still using typewriters, Whit came in and hired some people and we got dial-up internet, now we look like were heading in the direction of being on par with where we should have been 5 years ago. It really looks like we just didnt have the man-power that we should have had for being a national program.
One of the things reported was that Whit would double the size of the recruiting staff. Hopefully we learn more after the dead period
Danggg now.That.Is.What.Im.Talking.About
#likeIt
The first person to report this and a good two days ahead of anyone else was CZY of 247 sports.
I won't post links because you guys don't like them. However if I learned anything from yesterday, anything from a pay site is non credible because it didn't come from TKP first and therefore is hearsay and not true until TKP reports it.
So in a short summary, this is not true until a staff member says it is.
NOBODY REPLY. SERIOUSLY, DO. NOT. REPLY, Hold yourselves, pleasssee, I want to see real news when I click new.
Thank you ShockWave, I seriously hope CZY and HokieBen is correct. I think its what this program needs.
I applaud you for a noble attempt.
+1
You're acting so ridiculous. Was there any reason to post this other than just to expand on how upset you are over this? Also nobody here believes or thinks the way you describe in the middle of your comment. Can you please stop pitching a fit? The only thing you're accomplishing is rallying people against you, which is what a troll does.
Sheesh, someone's salty. Let's move on.
Using TKP to bash TKP?
Merry Christmas, everyone. I've had enough of this shit.
I think I gave him enough rope to hang himself on. I resisted using my power to ban him for a long time. But as the remarks became increasingly inflammatory and insulting, I exercised a bit of discretion in eliminating a troll. Now he'll go bitch on another forum about how closed-minded and stupid we are. Sorry not sorry.
Maybe he'll even take to twitter. I hear people love taking to twitter to bitch about how TKP has been unfair to them in the past.
Right on queue, too
What VTGM posted below...
he was an obvious troll. He'll be back. I'm not convinced he hasn't been here before. It is what it is...Only so much can be done about it.
And now he's even told me as much.
So he's been HokieBengal, Starscream, and now ShockWave, with two more to come.
well..color me shocked
You guys have IP tracking, right?
Not that it helps too much, but you should be able to proactively ban those 2 others, no?
Have to ask Joe. I'm not privy to the technical details.
Now he's tweeting at me saying it wasn't him and he's just messing around, but his entire Twitter timeline is basically just taking shots at TKP so I don't know what to think.
Yeah, sure.. wasn't him.... he just happened to be watching the site at the exact time this was going on despite having been banned a while ago and unable to comment. And just so happened to comment about the ban the immediate second it happened.
Sure
Funny how he backtracks right as the thought of proactive IP banning comes into play
I guess if he really really wanted to Joe could cross-reference decepticon names with accounts that are active but haven't commented. Would be a lot of work though. He'll rear his head again and we'll self police. It'll be annoying for a couple days but whatever.
could always just not reply..................................
because the funny thing about trolls is
(the funny thing about trolls are?)they need a captivated audience.well... yes and no.
Sometimes it takes a little needling to bring out the true nature of the troll. This would have gone on for many more weeks had people not piled on and weeded it out over the last 36 hours.
people aren't going to just ignore him. it just won't happen.
I'm no English major, but I think 'is' would be the correct word there..
Nevermind, read again and I'm wrong. You're referencing 'thing' and not 'trolls', and as such, the correct use would be 'is'
Respek
But the thing is singular
...really?
No offense, but, what are the honest chances that ANOTHER user who was banned weeks ago tagged you on Twitter immediately after banning someone? You caught him in the midst of his troll rage cycle and he tipped his cards, and is now trying to backpeddle because he realizes he just told you guys to be on the lookout for his return.
There is absolutely no way that wasn't him.
Oh, I'm pretty sure it's him, but what I really mean is I don't care to think more on it so I'm just gonna leave it alone.
If...er, when we get more trolls, I'll be quicker on the trigger. I tried to be fair, and even though the guy was heading for his second community ban, I just hastened the process. I won't be so slow next time. To an extent, I should apologize; I should have acted a dozen posts before I did, but I chose to more rigidly adhere to the voting rules on the actual content of the posts. Until they passed a tipping point, I didn't act. I should have. That's all that matters to me, not whether or not the guy was the same one.
Just out of curiosity, what does it take for him to be banned by the community?
Once your total TL count is at -25 you are unable to comment anymore.
He had lost 70 legs in a matter of about an hour, at which point I took him from 7 to -27 by hitting his three worst comments. He was on his way, I just got him there faster.
I use the term "community ban" to indicate self-moderation by the TKP user base, rather than a banhammer by Joe or I.
I asked him yesterday since I thought he sounded exactly like starscream, and his reply was that shockwave was from something else. Hilarious that he can be so identifiable in his idiocracy.
Does this mean we should put one of these next to Guitarman's name?
Someone called this after his first few posts, trying to find it and give them some legs.
vtcivengr called it!
So basically every troll on here has been the same guy? Well, except for Bender.
turkey leg count is now -30
Adios, ShockWave... was a pleasure
Always +1 Always Sunny
So amongst all the fun, Clay Dean was just named 4A All State. I first saw this on a tweet from @VTScoop247
Not behind a paywall
But... but... he's supposed to be terrible. His offer was supposed to be a terrible mistake from our coaching staff! All that matters is his 247 ranking anyways!
/s
And to summarize my 'stars don't necessarily matter' point.
More or less the evaluation of the player is more relevant than stars. Now I do agree his tape doesn't make people jump out of their seats, but he's pretty quick off the ball. And if he's a Sam Rogers type who works his butt off, I think that's a great add to the team.
The thing about 2* offers; and this is merely speculation, but more than likely their character is in check and they'll come in to work, they don't have the accolades or the stars or the offers not to.
What does TG know about recruiting anyway!
It's gotten a little confusing, but I think this means that TG is greater than Busch Gardens.
Ok, I'll play devil's advocate here. Clay Dean is a good player sure, but where do you see him fitting in on our defense?
OG* /s
I say play him at the backup Sam Rogers position, because when you're Sam Rogers the defense fits around you.
/s
In all seriousness though I say why not FB? I mean I have no frame of reference for evaluating his strengths, weaknesses, or desires but but he seems like he has the body type for it and that's a position that teams don't really recruit the way they do all the other positions on offense and defense. It seems a common trend for teams to turn a recruit at another position into their FB and to develop him after arriving on campus so I figure why not Clay Dean?
Edit: So to more directly answer your question I'm really not sure I see him fitting into our defense
at 6'3" 260, he's not out of place for a VT DT.
Whenever I start to judge someone because of how many stars they have, I think of Danny Coale, my #mcm foreva, and how he was only a 2-star according to rivals.
I hope they never realize how much info they give away with their twitter detail expands haha
I came across this the other day, interesting view from someone not highly ranked.
http://www.theplayerstribune.com/the-no-star-recruit/
Thanks for the link. It strikes at home a bit. Interesting how much the people and junk mail aspects have remained the same. I got all of that, coaches dropping by unannounced and non-committal. My mailbox saw a bit of action too. I almost could have written the first few paragraphs myself, 30 plus years prior to the author of this piece. Of course the internet and camps have opened up the process. A college coach can take a few minutes on Hudl and at least get a glimpse of a kid in action. No waiting for 8 and 16 millimeter film to arrive and worry about sending it back. I was kind of skinny for the position I played - not the one I should have been playing. I admire and am somewhat envious of this kid who pursued his dream and made it happen. I got my chance at the right position and did OK with it, but was so distrusting of coaches from the ones I had in high school that I just never believed in myself enough to believe what the coaches were trying to tell me.
HELLLOOOOOOOOOOO RECRUITING NEWS CAN YOU HEAR ME!!?!!???
......anyone????? Sighhhhh
Classes start Tuesday any update to early enrolles?
All are on campus and some walk ons per 247. Rivals has Evans and Lawson living and already practicing together, which is a huge plus for building that relationship when one has to backup
No surprise last minute changes that's great. Good to see them already getting going.
I really expect whoever fails to win to starting job to redshirt. It's the smart play with Motley having so much live game experience and seemingly being better suited to Fuente's scheme.
probably.
I will say lots of folks are overlooking this guy
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1362298/highlights/289051394/v2
He's on campus and imo, he's going to be a good one...maybe sooner than later.
If Jackson starts next year he is either the best QB to come through BB since Vick or something terrible happened to Lawson and Evans. I don't think either are particularly likely
And something terrible also happened to Motley (or he's gonzo).
On a scale of 0 to 1, I'd say the likelihood of JJ starting is a zero.
Hence the "probably".
Evans should be the heavy favorite to start. But we need 2 guys ready to go and none of the 4 has taken a snap in Fu's offense. So who picks it up the quickest?
Consider this math...if either Lawson or Jackson finds themselves significantly behind the other after spring practice, they could transfer this summer and sit out next year. Lawson would still have 3 to play and Jackson 4.
I seriously doubt that Jackson would transfer after his first semester on campus. Just sayin'.
lol, great pic!
the TE from Georgia (I think) did that to us a few years ago...transferred from VT to Vandy after the EE semester.
it is doubtful but it is also one of the advantages of a HS senior enrolling early...getting a free test drive at the new school for a semester. none of this sitting on the bench, stuck at a school/staff you aren't happy with, then transferring, then sitting out. its more like an annulment, you transfer immediately, and then redshirt year one like you probably would have anyway.
edit: here is the link
http://chronicle.augusta.com/stories/2007/05/23/col_129528.shtml
apparently also got a waiver to play immediately because of the shooting
I consider JJ in that same "if he doesn't start, he'll redshirt" boat.
The only way it gets messy is if Motley wins the starting job. Settling on a backup will be a nightmare for Fuente. Who loses a year of eligibility to ride the bench and be an emergency option?
Im pretty sure he can dress one of the guys and as long as they dont get in the game, redshirt them after the fact.
Right. But what do we do when Motley's helmet comes off and he has to come out for a play?
Send Durkin or Jack Click in?
Wild Turkey.
You send in Sam "The Answer" Rogers.
LOL
I know you're being TIC here (at least I think you are) but all the "Durkin/Click/Rogers" notions miss the point of what a backup QB does as compared to a wildcat QB.
Whoever gets the nod as the backup QB in '16 is going to see the field. You need a QB to run the base offense, and who goes in when QB1 comes out. A wildcat QB has a specific package of plays and are typically sent into the game in specific situations for a calculated reason. They aren't expected to be ready to go under center at a moment's notice.
The only way Durkin or Click or Rogers comes in if QB1's helmet comes off if if they're QB2.
Most likely Evans or Lawson will win the job and Motley will be backup, and there will be nothing to worry about. But if Motley goes straight HAM and wins the job outright, somebody's losing a year of eligibility that we could probably use later.
Great points. And this is exactly why I would say the odds of Motley winning the starting job are very, very much against him. Remember, Fuente had a similar situation at Memphis and chose to go with developing the young but talented Lynch over the much more experienced veteran option. Motley doesn't have an edge on Lawson or Evans from a physical upside perspective either, so if he is going to win the QB1 job, he is going to have to be head-and-shoulders the best QB on the field. If it's close, coaches will always tend to go with the younger option with more eligibility and upside. I really like Motley and appreciate all he has done for the team, but he has a massive uphill battle in front of him this spring. I think we will see a great competition, and may the best man win.
If they truly are an emergency option and do not play, they can still redshirt
Ben - did you mention in another thread that you heard Evans was hurt and out of shape? I remember reading it from someone I trusted but I couldn't find it.
Yea Evans did an interview with Rivals where he mentioned he had put on some weight and was out of shape. I don't think it was anything extreme like 5-10 pounds IIRC
And the injury is just lingering effects to his previous knee problem?
Thanks!!
Yea I don't think it was anything new
I still am not sure what happened. I always thought he injured a hand or something at Trinity Valley, was it his knee and is it serious?
Injured his knee at AFA prep school (2+ years ago)
Injured his non-throwing hand last season at CC
Wait this one

It literally says "my weight has not changed."
https://virginiatech.forums.rivals.com/threads/insider-vt-early-enrollee...
I think you misread the quote you linked, he actually says his height hasn't changed but he expects his weight to change once he starts doing work outs
That was a cool read. Thank you for posting that. I kind of wish they didn't ask the "favorite food/movie/show" stuff, but the other questions he answered were insightful. I've read some really good stuff about Jerod, his brother, and his family. Definitely an awesome guy to have as a Hokie.
If you haven't seen this article, it offers great behind the scenes on the Evans family. I'm hopeful that we can take Caleb as well.
I hope so too. Another set of brothers is always awesome.
IIRC, someone posted that article under a post that said Caleb Evans was visiting VT, but at that point nobody knew about Jerod yet. That changed quickly... & that weekend is when Fuente's finish of Sandman16 got VERY exciting
The USAFA will help bring out the team first in everyone that goes there. My son played football at the prep school and on the Falcon team as a freshman. Place is the real deal.
