Buzz Williams teaching players about honor, country and service, honors Veterans

This is a pretty cool story that I missed back in November, where Buzz Williams on Veteran's Day honored 20 vets from all branches and as far back as WWII, all while using it as a teaching moment regarding showing his players proper etiquette for the National Anthem and giving them a chance to appreciate those that have served this country. Not sure how I missed it, but its gained alot of traction on Facebook amongst the Vet community and was sent to me by a buddy from my time in. Glad he sent it to me and in case you didnt catch it, something else to appreciate Buzz for.

Here

Make sure you watch the video, its pretty amazing to see Buzz coaching up his players like this.

A coach taking time to coach etiquette and respect for the Anthem is a very, very VT thing to do. This is the kind of character and integrity that sets the university apart from so many of it's peer institutions. Bringing together the future (C of C) and the past, what an emotional sequence to watch. Moments like this help solidify that the Pylons of Promise aren't just an empty gesture press release.

Being a Veteran means something. In it's own way, so does being a Hokie. I'm glad Buzz sees, and imparts that.

I saw this from HokieSports, but you're right - I never saw it posted here and it's a great thing to share. *Leg*!

And even though it's a past event - we all are thankful, every day, for those that have or are serving our country.

And no surprise there, it's Wally Lancaster with an airball that looked gorgeous on its way to nowhere...

it was on here. I only know this because I saw it and I don't frequent any other sites that could have had a link to this (facebook, hokiesports, espn, etc). Still a good repost to remind people.

My dad and brothers are all Navy jet jock retirees (just dated myself). I shared this with them. They thought it was great. My dad blasted it to a bunch of his veteran buddies. He got several responses on how much they appreciated what VT and Buzz were doing.
What Buzz is doing here is good team and individual development and its sells VT as well. Serendipity occurred!

Dude that was awesome but don't forget about the servicewomen Buzz! (I know it wasn't intentional) In the Air Force, we call something similar to this as being "re-blued." Sometimes even us service members lose focus on what it's all about in the grand scheme of things and need to be reminded.

If you look at the video you will see that Air Force COL(Ret) Patience Larkin, VTCC Alumni Director, is one of the 20 veterans included in the ceremony.
