Frank and I go way back. I was a freshman in the HTs and attended the Liberty Bowl in '68 which he played in. I would like to think that I looked as good then compared to now as he does.
Very excited for the game. It is bittersweet to watch Frank's last game but also the seniors every year. I will be sad to see this group go after watching them battle the last few seasons despite the below par seasons. Brewer has been up and down on the field but few have put in more work and effort into the team than he has over the last few seasons. I hope he has a great bowl game and goes out on a high note!

It may be an unpopular opinion, but part of me will be sad to see Loeffler's last game as a Hokie. It's not that I'm not excited to see the next wave coming in, but Lefty put all that he had into an offensive overhaul in Blacksburg and has left it better than he found it. I will be cheering for him at his next stop.
I'll always remember him for that UVA week interview last season, and how he turned things around from the previous week's Wake Forest debacle.
His insufficiencies as an OC tainted Beamers last years. Good luck elsewhere.

I hate being right. Question 1 for Foster in the off season- why do you play outside leverage without any linebacker or safety support inside, and then rush wide so nobody gets to the QB.
When the DE ripped/swam/bullrushed, they got pressure. The ball was out before Dadi and Ken could wide rush. Yet, over and over and over and over and over.
Plus, it didn't help matters that Loeffler coached the second half like he was playing the Washington Generals. I got an ulcer when he attempted a Y and HB pass in the same drive. They ended up scoring, but you could see the focus of the offense go completely kaput. They had the formula back when Coleman fumbled, but never went back to the same power stuff. McMillian wasn't right, but Edmunds could have taken the load if Coleman was out of the trust market.
I am thrilled to get the win, but they made that way harder than it needed to be.
Now What? I know we already have Fuente but this is the first season not knowing what to expect from VT Football Coaching staff.
As embarassing as a win can get. We should have kicked their asses by 28+ points. Very disappointing.
That's the way we have won the few games we did during the last 4 years....take 'em how you can get 'em.

SL, Shane BS and the rest now gone. We just sat there making not a sound while the team became a study of ineptitude once again. Ding Dong!
and yet, as frustrating as the offense was down the stretch, they didn't give up 52 points. Some upperclassmen did not play as well as they needed to. Chuck Clark and Brandon Facyson both had some moments where those guys make plays in the past and didn't tonight. The linebacker play was dreadful. I have defended them- that was as bad as the position looked since the Duke game. Some of that was the interior line, especially when Foster called a 30 front and the nose tackle would seemingly freelance a rush and lose responsibility for both A gaps. That would often leave two OL and a back vs the two backers, and the way those kids were on their heels meant they had zero chance.
The positives: Terrell Edmunds had a spectacular game when he was challenged, which was not often. I would have liked to have seen Anthony Shegog play more. From a game speed view, the run defense was significantly better with him on the field. We will see what the film says. I thought Nigel Williams and Vinny Mihota gave some excellent reps, and I was surprised when Foster went with Sobczak and Baron for a series there up 18 but the game far from being in doubt. Adonis Alexander was covering Garrett well when matched up on him. Garrett was much more effective against Facyson; however Alexander did something wrong in the 3rd Q and Foster blew a gasket at him. After that, Facyson seemed to be on Garrett much more often.
I said repeatedly here and on Twitter that the Tulsa offense was no joke. I hate being right.
As for Isaiah Ford, some day you guys will tell your kids that you watched him play. That was spectacular. He is an unbelievable football player and may not get the credit he deserves because he makes it so easy. It looks easy because that kid puts in serious work. Ryan Malleck was terrific blocking all game long, and I hope NFL scouts noticed. He is a solid receiver, and is fantastic as a blocker. Hodges had a really uneven night. I thought there were some more targets where Phillips and Ford were open that got forced to Bucky and his route running couldn't trump the best coverage Tulsa could muster. Loeffler also had a nice match up with Rogers split out, but didn't come back to it after one good drive.
Great movie...or sniffing glue.
Frustrating towards the end, as usual we took our foot off the gas too early. Hope this won't be a problem going forward.
Either way, glad to send Frank out a winner. I showed up an hour before the game and stayed until he walked off the platform.

As a point of clarity on a couple of Ford's records:
1. Andre Davis did go over 1000 yards in 1999, including the NC game. For all pre-2000 stats, the NCAA did not count bowl games when compiling the numbers. So, in the same number of games, Davis did it first, and if you include the bowl game,
still has the record (1178 for Davis, 1164 for Ford).Still very impressive work by Isaiah this year. EDIT: see below for my inability to add numbers.2. Ford set a record last night for most receiving yards in a regulation game with 227. Ernest Wilford has the record for most yards in a game at 279, but that was a 2OT game against Syracuse in 2002. Wilford also accumulated those yards on just 8 catches - wow. EDIT: upon looking at the play-by-play from that game, none of Wilford's yards came in either of the OT periods. So really the 279 is still a record accumulated in 4 quarters of game action, so this is another record on technicality.
