To me, the most exciting relevation is James Gayle coming in lighter this year. As I noted several times following the fall camp scrimmages, he looked too heavy, and he noted that as he cut weight during the season, his play improved. I think it benefits the Hokies to better utilize Gayle as a natural pass rusher instead of using him as a decoy to create lanes for Tyler (who is an outstanding blitzer) and Edwards (who is really a better coverage linebacker.) Unlike 2009, where Greg McElroy, who was starting his first game, Alabama brings back an experienced QB in McCarron. Foster can't get away with selling out on the blitz, but bringing Gayle off the edge and using some creative stunts with the other linemen and Tyler while playing robber behind the stunt can get McCarron to throw some picks. I guarentee you will see Cooper bracketed as much as possible.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

Gayle Force.

I support Logan Thomas and make no apologies for it.

Love this. Well in, Trevor

Saw Gayle get on the scale Thursday and it was 253.

Talked to Gentry the other day and they basically said Acree gets to come in and lift and just go to school. He is just a giant man, but he looks like he gets sick on leg day.

Would be nice to see some more commitments other than kicker come out of this weekend.

I'm wondering if there is any chance he becomes a student assistant in the strength/conditioning program

I think he has another year or so of undergrad but I'm sure if he goes to graduate school they'd look at putting him on the GA staff. Right now there are a number of former football players working on the staff.

I think Undergraduate students can also become assistants. My understanding is that Loeffler was a student assistant at Michigan before he was a graduate student.

I'm pretty sure you're right wasn't that the case with James Hopper.

um...how about NFL?

Hokies fan since 1998

Talking about Acree, not Gayle.

I heard Nnadi has a top 2, but no sites seem to have them listed as his favorites. Any word on who those two schools might be?

Trainer updates:

Chatted with cornerback Antone Exum for a few minutes. He said hes at 65 percent in his rehab from a torn ACL, which isnt a number he pulled out of thin air. Its a statistical number hes gotten through tests to his acceleration, deceleration and various other things.

Exum said hes not making any guarantees about the Alabama game. Hell see how he progresses.

Goforth said quarterback Brenden Motley is coming back from meniscus surgery in the spring and has been cleared to do everything except contortional drills.

Defensive end Ken Ekanem had his knee scoped, a cleanup procedure from a high school injury, about two weeks ago. Hes doing pretty much everything.

Safety Greg Jones is three months removed from shoulder surgery and is expected to be fully cleared for the start of the season.

Goforth said guard/center Andrew Miller, linebacker Tariq Edwards and receiver D.J. Coles are all good to go.
