Saw the title and got a terrible thought in mind...

This makes one wonder if it was worth the economy of cutting two letters from the word "offer".

However, given the fun we've had with it, I suppose it was...

RIP Vilain

There was a time when I would have been laying down, mouth open, guzzling your steady pour.

Why would anyone want to off Luigi? Mario can get a little annoying, I get that, but Luigi?!?!?!?!?!

Aaaaand I just got it...

what was with nintendo and sequels to their early hits? Both Mario 2 and Zelda 2 were such departures from the originals and left the fans confused and angry that they pretty much just spit out prettier versions of #1 when it came time to release #3.

Mario 2 holds up. I like the difference in game play, and it introduced the mechanic of being able to pick stuff up and throw it as a weapon, which is carried over through the rest of the series.

Zelda 2 was just weird. Why they decided to make it a side scroller, I'll never know.

Mario 2 was the bomb. I still remember opening that bad boy on Christmas morning and then playing all day long. It was unseasonably warm in Baltimore that Christmas too, like 65 degrees.

Princess Peach was the bomb with her hoverjump. Only way I could defeat Birdo.

Yup, Peach was the best one. I always found Luigi tough to control with his legs flailing around all over the place.

I could never get the hang of Peach's rigid leap. Luigi's hangtime was unbeatable, once you got used to the flailing.

I think it might be time to let that one go.

That's crazy talk.

The Mario 2 we got wasn't the same as the one they got in Japan. It was a rebranding of a quirky Japanese game. The lost levels they released on the Super Mario All-Stars was their Mario 2 I believe.

I miss having a Nintendo just because of this game...

Edit: Anyone: Is the Wii U worth getting?

@AMB4VT

I got one this past Grey Thursday its fun but keep in mind its a dying console with the Nintendo NX on the horizon. I have 7 games and only one (Splatoon) does not contain and Zelda characters (Wind Waker HD, Hyrule Warriors, Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8- yes Link is in a DLC) or Mario characters (Super Mario Maker, Super Mario 3D World, Smash Bros, Mario Kart 8 . Although if you were ever a fan of Dynasty Warriors then Hyrule Warriors is a must have. At this point the only future releases I am looking forward to are Twilight Princess HD and the new Legend Of Zelda Wii U.

They can't make enough zelda games. I still play the original, ocarina, and majora's mask on a collector's edition GameCube game.

Geez, who are you people and what is it that you are doing?

Self-admitted dork, thanks for asking.

Hadn't heard of the NX, thanks for sharing!

Possibly a Vilain on one side of the ball and a Diablo coming in on the other...man, and here I thought we were a good, wholesome team. This Fuente guy is attracting all sorts of evil to our team. /s

Perfect gif application, just perfect. I laughed! Thanks for that!

Pretty cool how the naming fads of the late 90's are now showing up in sports. Diamond Stone at Maryland is probably the craziest example of this. In twenty years we might have a Hashtag playing for us.

I teach a kid named Murical. Pretty sure that name will pop up in sports one day.

I love Raekwon McMillan at Ohio State and read of another Raekwon who is a major recruit this year. Kids named after Wu-Tang Clan members is a very good thing.

As long as the initials are not ODB.

I don't think my wife would be too happy if I named our son Ghostface. I might be able to get away with Osiris.

How about GZA?

That would be genius!

Most interesting (and on a somewhat sad level) name story I've heard...my wife is a teacher, and one of her students was named Female (pronounced Fe MAH ly). She told my wife that her mom said that the hospital had already named her on the little pink bracelet when they brought her into her room.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

Mr Garvey would approve:

Have a kid in the school named MiTyshun. Reason, the mom wanted everyone to know he was her baby. She corrected the office all day if they said Tyshun. "No, No, He's MiTyshun"

My aunt, who's a nurse, told me a story of a woman wanting to name her newborn son Lemongello (pronounced Luh-mon-juhlo). However, she wanted it to be spelled "Lemonjello".

I feel sorry for whoever that kid is, having to grow up with the name Lemon Jello. First days of school must have been rough when it came time for roll calls.

I'm not sure how teachers call roll with a straight face these days!

About like the guy on here that was trying to pronounce Keavienne or whatever.

Must...resist...the temptation

Huh. I first heard this name story about 20 years ago as a "wink, wink" joke about hispanics in a South Carolina school. They did, however, say the third syllable was pronounced "lay", which sounded more authentic.

My sister-in-law taught a young lady that had her baby during summer school. So the girl named her daughter ,Ab-Se-dee, spelled Abcde.

I wonder if Bruce Garnes is still going to be around? That guy has been at VT forever.

The look on everyone's face in the background....

I like the guy with binoculars. Who needs binos from the front row?

Isn't that Ed and David Wang's Dad? I think I recall that from the time this was taken.

guess he wore the wrong prescription glasses that day

Wow, I just now realized Logan Thomas is in this picture

Are you sure, that looks like someone sitting down the the front row. Is he tall or something?

My dad went to Episcopal, as did his two brothers. He once took me to "The Game" against Woodberry Forest, and that was the best high school football environment I ever saw (although I've never been to a Texas or Florida hs game).

FUMA vs. Collegiate back in the day was the best for me. Russell Wilson vs. Brandon Caleb and his crew of flunkies was pretty special.

I'm still just amazed by this whole development. This kind of late game heroics just never seemed to happen for VT. This may well be my greatest VT sports experience of all time. Just magical.

The only thing close was watching the Les Henson heave to beat FSU in my dorm room in Pritchard on a tiny black and white TV with a clothes hanger antennae...
