Oh man, that is awesome. Does anyone have that full game in a format they can send me? I made the poor decision of getting married on October 8, 2011 and I missed the game. Not that getting married was a poor decision, I love my wife, but I missed that game. I remember my father in law handing her off at the alter and telling me we just took the lead. If anyone has a recording of that game they can send me I would be very appreciative.

Brad: I already told you! I iron out the minutiae so Justin doesn't have to. I have people skills dammit! What the hell is wrong with you people?

My man. Didn't realize the whole game broadcast would be on YouTube. I know have plans for the weekend.... married life!

One of my sorority sisters planned her wedding the same day as my senior Homecoming. We definitely had sisters who went to the game and not the wedding.

Ha, one of my sorority sisters planned her wedding the same day as the 2011 Clemson game... actually slightly happy I missed that one... 2007 is always there for me ^_^

A couple of my friends are getting married on the same day (and time, actually) as the Alabama game. I told them I'll be in Atlanta and unavailable.

Anyone who schedules a wedding during football season seriously needs to straighten out their priorities!

Exactly! They're even both Tech students! One's a recent grad, the other a rising senior. They should know better. The entire wedding party did have to sell their tickets though. Lots of smartphones will be checked during that ceremony.

My whole family inherited Notre Dame fandom, and my cousin got married on the day of the Stanford game last season. After the toasts, the groom took the mic and announced that he had confirmed that Notre Dame had won...

...which means he was checking his smartphone as he and his wife were being toasted by the MOH/BM.

Opening day too; we wait over half a year for that day. That's ludicrous.

One of my cousin's got married during one of the early season matchups in 2011...Appy State maybe? At the reception my dad and I were listening to the broadcast using the Tune-In Radio app on my phone.

Luckily my cousin planned her wedding to be the weekend after the GT game (unintentionally), so I lucked out!

There is absolutely zero chance I would ever be at a wedding during the Alabama game. 2 of my friends got married during the BC game 2 years ago. They told me there would be a TV at the reception, but it turns out that was just a ploy to get me there. My friend and I were able to watch it on our phones, but I still haven't forgiven them. DO NOT GET MARRIED DURING FOOTBALL SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!

I almost fell for the "oh, there will definitely be a TV at the reception" ploy for the Nebraska game. My girlfriend's (of 3+ years) uncle was finally getting married after being with his now wife for like 15 years (talk about dragging your feet). I told my girlfriend I wasn't missing Nebraska in Lane Stadium. Period. She didn't like my decision but couldn't do much to stop me. She called me after the game to tell me about how pretty the wedding was... All I wanted to talk about was The Infamous Catch and how I had "the best day of my life."

Yeah... needless to say I am still single. I guess I just haven't found the right one yet...

For the love of goodness I hope I meet this woman one day.

I'm here for the memes, I just stay for the football.

My sister got married on championship weekend a few years back. Thank goodness it was the Clemson/GT championship game. Got to the post-reception bar just in time to see Colt McCoy hit the railing with a second left to set up a field goal to beat Ndominates U's Cornhuskers.

You, my friend, won the father in law lottery right there.

Pretty sure that one quote says it all... "These people are losing their minds!"

I still laugh every time I see Beamer's security guard throw that kid to the ground

Me too! The first time I saw it, I about fell out of my chair. Still gets me.

"Exit light..."

Yeah I never noticed that before, hilarious. I had a family friend getting married that day too, think I would have been sick had I gone and missed that game.

“I ought to punch UVa people in the neck. Don’t ever come on my show and brag about your football.”

I saw the subheadline where they said, 'You'll be surprised who is NOT number 1' and I immediately thought, "YOU MEAN IT ISN'T THE MIAMI GAME!?!?!"

Turns out, there's some pitcher in NY who is uses it, too. Never knew.

Hands down the best game I've ever seen. It was so well played on both sides, LT was unbelievable. It had everything a game should have. I was sick the next week because I was screaming so loud during that game, literally couldn't talk properly.

Rip his freaking head off!

I second that. It was by FAR the BEST game I have ever been to at Lane Stadium. And later I watched the game on my DVR....WOW. Still gives me chills watching the last 30 seconds of that game. I only go to one game a season. This season I'm thinking either UNC or PITT.

@AMB4VT

The home games against Nebraska and GT (when David ran back that TD) were previously the two craziest games I had been to. This Miami game blew both out of the water.

Goes without saying, but watching Logan go 23/25 was fantastic. Hope to see a lot more of those games this year.

Slightly off topic, but is the throw that was called back because Logan was past the LoS included in his stats from that game?

If I remember correctly that pass was completed, so they accepted the penalty. Which means it isn't included in his stats. What's even more amazing, those two incompletions were a dropped pass and a throw away. When he was actually trying to complete a pass he never missed a throw.

Rip his freaking head off!

all that after a week of the fans screaming leal should be the starter, move logan to te, etc etc.

I think my favorite Miami game was when we beat them and they were #2 in Blacksburg. The streets filled up with fans in jubilation all night. Friends of mine just passed out in their cars. A bus full of Miami fans drove through downtown and was rocking trying to get up the hill to head to prices fork.

Blacksburg PD busted out the riot gear because people were in trees...that and I think there were bored. That was an epic night!

Sounds like when they busted out the riot gear for what was essentially a giant pep rally on Main St. the night before we played LSU

"We were at the pinnacle, and we did it for years," Foster says. He pauses, nods, takes a deep breath. "And I did it with the best guy in the business."

For sure, there was absolutely no need for it, I don't think there were any incidents (beyond drunk in public) that even happened that night.

I was more annoyed with the stupid RVs taking over the student parking lots by Wednesday.

I wasn't able to get tickets to that game, so my friends and I went through the make-shift RV park and stole a bunch of their flags and magnets during half-time. Later, they were re-distributed to our friends' cars as pranks.

Turns out, not everyone who traveled from LSU went to the game. There were people there in their RVs watching it on TV!

That's typical for their home games here, too. 90,000+ get in. About 150,000+ tailgate. To you and me, that's a long way to drive to just sit in your RV, bu' na fo da folks a da bayou.

They have to break that stuff out once in a while in order to justify its cost.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

Was there for both of those so damn fun. But the 2003 Miami game was the craziest I've seen lane for a full game. Place was insane

That was before my time, but '09 was awesome too. They had all this hype around them. ESPN says "the U is back!" "Jacory for Heisman!" Only person on air with any faith in us was Tony Kornheiser, who on PTI said "I don't know how anyone can possibly be favored as an away team in lane stadium, have you been there before?!"

Then the rain comes... and the TDs... and a blocked punt. We kicked the shit out of them, 31-7 I think? I'll never forget walking back to my apartment, soaking wet from the rain, but I didn't care, it was great.

I took my brother to that game. He went go GMU, so this was his first college football game. After getting hammered in the parking lot, losing his ticket, scalping another and sneaking him into our section - I turned to him around half-time and asked what he thought.

"This is the greatest sporting event I have ever been to."

Edit: formatting and general bad internetting.

I believe that was also the last time we rushed the field after a game.

At this point in our school's football history, I don't believe there should EVER be a field storming. Never at Lane. If we win a national championship, that field is mine. But that is the only one.

I wouldn't go that far. If we were playing in Lane on August 31 instead of Atlanta, I'd probably be one of the first ones on the field after we #BEATBAMA.

I mostly agree with you. We should never rush the field against a conference foe again, since we've proven ourselves among the ACC elite, only twice not finishing the season as the top-ranked team in the ACC.

However, on the national scene there's a whole different story. We have one win over a top-5 team all-time, against Miami in 2003 while we were both in the Big East. We beat #6 WVU at home in our first year in the ACC in 2004, and #9 4 times, twice against non-conference opponents, and never in Lane. If we beat a top-5 team in Lane before winning an MNC, then I'll rush the field. But that's about the only time.

Conference or non-conference opponent, beat a top 5 opponent in a stunning victory, rushing the field is appropriate. Unless we are ranked in the top 5 as well. Nebraska was one of the times when we probably shouldn't have rushed the field since we were ranked higher than them, but emotions were high after the ending to that game so it happened.

Respectfully disagree, sir.

1) Only rush the field at home.

2) Exceptions made for MAJOR victories at NEUTRAL SITES only. Winning the first game of the season against Alabama might be a major victory for us. But it isn't big enough. What if Alabama goes 6-6 (unlikely, I know)? The only acceptable celebration if we beat Alabama in Atlanta would be "A-C-C! A-C-C!"

3) MNC would be big enough, which would have to be at a neutral site, hence the exception.

4) We have beaten Miami and WVU before. This is not a big enough deal. The first time Beamer beat FSU, it was at home, and I disagreed with anyone on the field for that one, too (covered by your conference foe point).

Rushing the field is for Arizona over Oregon, old Stanford over USCw, Minnesota over Ohio State, Kentucky over LSU. There is no one so far and away better than us (at this point in our football history) to merit a field storming. There is no victory so big to be worthy of getting my hooves dirty.

Except the MNC.

Then, storm on.

1) Agreed.

2) Agreed. Also, I'm not sure if you missed where I said "If we were playing in Lane on August 31 instead of Atlanta".

3) Agreed.

4) Agreed (everything but 2007 FSU). At the time, yes, we had taken the conference by storm, winning it outright in our first year before losing the 2005 ACCCG, a game we were heavily favored to win. But we didn't even win our division in 2006. That makes one conference title and one division title in 3 years, hardly the makings of dominance. Yes, we were pretty highly ranked. Yes, FSU was unranked. But, after all the heartbreak that Bowden had handed us over the years, it was so nice to finally get that off our backs. That, and I was a dumb freshman who rushed the field and got a couple autographs. But, at this point, 6 years later, we have 4 conference titles, 5 division titles, and have finished the season ranked highest 7 times in 9 years.

The only place I disagree is your last point. Right now, Bama is considered far and away better than us. They have won the last 2 MNCs, and 3 of the last 4. If we beat them, it'll be their first loss to open a season in 12 years. It'll be their first loss to a non-SEC program since the 2009 Sugar Bowl, and their first in the regular season since 2007. If we played them at home, hell yes that's a field stormer, hands down. If they end up going 6-6, all that means is that we demoralized them so bad that they turned up lame the rest of the year.

Fair enough. We'll disagree a little, but turkey leg for some great points.

You, my good horse sir, are tripping. So I'm going to help you out. If (read "when") we beat the back-to-back, consensus #1 ranked program on Aug 31, we will be storming the field and you will be coming with us.

Nay!

I see what you did there

I rushed the field way back when, in the 80's, when VT won its first bowl game down in Atlanta against NC State. It was a last second filed goal so was very exciting, come from behind finish. We've been there and done that so no need to repeat. Only thing left is the NC or upsetting a number 1 at home.

#Let's Go - Hokies

Only thing left is the NC or upsetting a number 1 at home.

Or in Atlanta

If we beat a top 5 team in lane when we are in ranked or lower ranked then storm that field. Its an awesome thing to do but only for big upsets in my opinion. I don't want to become one of those grumpy old men programs

I've always wanted to know who the person was that decided to play it at that time. I think it's the only time it has ever been played during a game, right? Did they ask permission or just say "damned the consequences" and pushed play? Have they been waiting for the most opportune time or did it just come to them at that moment?

Who was that genius? I would like to give him a turkey leg.... or twenty.

They have played it a couple times during opportune moments in big games. 2010 GT after Wilson ran it back, this Miami game, 2007 BC right before Matty Ice led that damned drive (sadness), and a couple others I can't recall right now.

I too would like to commend whoever started it.

VT '10 #AllMaroonEverything

ah.. man, I don't remember any of those. I guess because this was at such a pivotal point on a time-out and we won seconds later, and those "people are losing their minds" I really only remember it in the Miami game.

when they played it during the 07 BC game, up to that point, that was the craziest I've seen LANE

The pouring rain made it that much better too!

VT '10 #AllMaroonEverything

my ears were ringing after that game. i wonder if the rain amplifies the noise or it just seems that way because miami 09 was super loud too.

Had my friend from Czech Republic with me at the BC game. Was ready to make it all worth it for him as we started making our way down to rush the field then that happened. I'll never head for the field until 00:00 again. Used to be a big Falcons fan, but Matt Ryan messed that up too. I tried but just can't root for the guy after that.

No, I've heard them play it mid-game before. They played it after David Wilson took the kick back against GT

After they played it against BC in the Matty Rain game, I now cringe when it happens during the game.

Me too, but the two times since then that it's been played mid-game (that I can recall) we've pulled out the "W". So it might be growing on me now.

I can only recall the Miami game where it was played mid-game, but I wouldn't be surprised if you told me that the other time you're referring to was just before DW4 broke GT with the kick return.

I believe it was right after DW4 broke the TD.

They would do it a lot at basketball games.

The first mid-game Sandman that I heard was 2005 against Miami. We were down two scores and the crowd was kind of dead because we were just getting manhandled. We got all pumped up, then on the first play from scrimmage, Marcus fumbled in the end zone. Then we were down three scores. Couple that with the 2007 BC outcome and I was convinced that mid-game Sandman was bad news. After DW4 ran back the kick and they played it, as GT was marching down the field, I was a wreck. Thank goodness for Rock Carmichael or that would have been awful.

I honestly don't understand how we can't outrecruit UVA (and other schools with lesser gameday atmospheres) by showing this clip and some of our entrances (i.e. Clemson 2006). I mean seriously, you can't find fans getting this loud and into the game at almost any other stadium in the entire country, and you're going to choose to play in front of UVA? I can't fathom that.

What a list if they were the only ones, but I averaged about 1-3 each year before enrolling in 2010 so those plus all the home games since then. I just know that it's hard getting to the games if you aren't a student or live in Blacksburg, so just appreciative I can count some of our greatest moments/games on m list.
