He's a blur, fo sure.
Looks like lightning quick, explosive, jet sweep/ wr screen guy- perfect for Fuente's O.

Umm, why did we offer this guy?Because Fuente does his own evaluations. If he thinks the kid is good I have no reason not to believe him at this point. Plus, if he wants to play big boy college football, and we're his only P5 offer not named Iowa State or Indiana, then we're pretty much guaranteed the commit.
4.6/40 isn't really "lightning quick" though... and his vertical isn't exactly jumping out of the roof (which is somewhat of a gauge of explosiveness)
Heck, by those stats, I should have been a 4 star recruit in high school...
and yet you weren't...
C'mon man, you can't be serious here.
There are endless stories of 'workout warriors' who blow everyone away at the combine but can't play for shit.
And plenty of guys who don't have the impressive stats who are excellent players.
Rivals 40 times are about as accurate as a Georgia Tech QB.
Only in the 4th qt to beat VT?
Ouch
I do not recall this happening. The last time we played GT in Lane we won an OT thriller behind the heroics of the Fuller brothers and the infamous Cody Journell.
Where were you on Sept 20, 2014 when GT beat VT in Lane at the end of the 4th qtr when Brewer said, here, take the ball, I Don't want it and they kicked a last second FG for the win?
Funny thing about blackout drunks...
I'm not sure, but I did have a nightmare that day that we gave up a 4th and 15 against an option team and Brewer threw a pick six early in the 4th quarter that greatly affected the outcome of the mythical game.
It was nothing more than a nightmare though, it never actually happened.
I remember tailgating outside the stadium, watching inside the stadium, and even going wild when we had them on 4th and long to ice the game. There must not have been anything after that worth remembering, or I would remember it.
Probably the same place as that Thursday night where Miami came to town to join us for Enter Sandman and then everyone left.
Watch his tape and you'll know why. The kid can flat out ball and he is much quicker than that 4.6 listed.
Hudl says he runs a 4.38, and it looks like it on film too
Speed and quick are different equations.
You are correct, but unlike the 40, the shuttle IS a determination of quickness and change of direction. A 4.43 shuttle is not great. It's probably below average. Hopefully he's one of those guys who has great "game speed."
One can be shifty and accelerate well without having great top end speed
If the dude finds a hole well makes a dude miss and gets me 5 yards a pop I couldn't care less about his measureables. Ask Oakland how judging players on 40 times worked for the better part of a decade
His hudl says he runs a 4.38 and I believe it based on his film, no way this guy runs a 4.6. Multiple times people had angles on him and he just blew right by them. He does look like a perfect fit for Fuente's offense. If you can get the ball to a guy like this in space he can pick up lots of yards in a hurry.
I don't believe 4.38 either. How many grown men run 4.38 at the NFL combine after specifically trying to peak their 40 time for that event?
There is so much variability in how a 40 time is actually timed that it doesn't matter. All combine 40 times are comparable, all 40 times from a specific camp are comparable. But comparing 40 times across different locations at different times holds little value.
If he's got a 4.38 on his resume and you watch his film, it's probably safe to say he's in the "fast guy" tier. Which we need more of. Other than that.....it's hard to say much that's relevant.
Simple, I'll just turn on NCAA Football 2016 and tell you guys what they put his speed rating at.
We'll know the answer to this as soon as he signs with a school and they release final rosters!
From what I've seen, kids are actually getting slower while in college. Some of it is probably packing on muscle. Another reason is that the combine timing is on the slow side. This is why so many pro prospects do better during individual workouts than at the combine.
No, times are simply inflated. 40 times for recruits are no more accurate than heights and weights - probably less so in fact.
I would think that the running surface and means of timing make a world of difference.
it depends on the source of the data. If it has a Nike SPARQ cert, than its about as legit as you are going to get. There are a couple of other companies running sports summer camps that also are strongly reliable sources of information.
Those are not the heights, weights, and 40 times that get posted on Hudl and quoted on message boards.
Bottom line...he's not slow, but he doesn't run a 4.38 40. No way, no how.
The 4.6-40 time seems to be from a combine at Tampa. This time was third fastest out of about 750 participants. Adrian Killins had the fastest time at 4.58. Other 40 yard times for Adrian Killins are in the 4.3 range... so it was a slow field where they did the testing.
ESPN has a vertical leap for Latrell at 39"
Ok - watched the film, and looked at the other sites. Came to a conclusion that Rivals is full of shit like Cousin Eddies RV.
I digress - the kid can ball.
For us older folks (read 30+..*cough*..) can someone link his HUDL highlights pls?
Am 29 and scared for the disappearing Google skillz barrier that is 30 :(
You'll then, be thrilled by what happens when you reach the 65 milestone that is now my millstone in all things techie.
For the 2 or 3 of us on this board:

I'm not as old as you guys but we had 2 of those in the house when I was a kid
Ha! I'm old enough to remember how happy we were when we no longer had a party line.
My grandma and aunt lived in rural Northern Neck VA and had a party line until 1988. People back in Richmond didn't believe me when I talked about using it.
Yep. Northern Neck native here. We lived in town and had a private line, but many of my friends were on a party line. Being teenage girls, I always felt a little bad for their neighbors.
Another N'Necker native. I remember at Tech that my accent used to get more "Where you from?" inquiries than the Grundy folks.
Grundy, Grundy, Grundy... That's a special place. I had to have class at the Appalachian School of Law back in November and it was my first (and likely last) trip. Only an hour and 30 minute drive from Bristol, but the route we took wasn't a fun one. At least they have a 2-story walmart with an escalator.
Yes, the Buch is a special place indeed. If you're driving to Grundy at night and you pass the coke ovens, it really does look like you've just passed the Gates to Hell. It's bizarre. Also, driving across Shortts Gap mountain to get to Grundy in the winter is dicey at best.
We had a black plastic wall phone into the early 90s, and I also grew up with a party line. Used to hate trying to talk to a girlfriend and hearing the neighbors pick up the phone and listen in.
why didn't you just text her? Just kidding. You never know who is gonna untie the note from the pigeon's leg.
Still chuckling over this one, but sometimes I do feel that outdated.

Wow this kid's highlights are great!
Hey guys,
Expert here.
Can confirm, this kid is not slow. He is fast.
I hope this helps clear things up.
I trust everything this man says... he's an expert -says so right there.
And again: documented on the internet in text = true

He just decommitted from USF. But Miami sent an offer in after that and he seems really high up on that right now. I'd guess that he would plan to visit both schools?
I can't embed the tweet because I'm on mobile, but here's the link: X
This gameday photo is just perfect.
I guess that's another vote for Fuente's recruit evaluation.
His primary recruiter was hired as their WR coach, very doubtful he ends up with the good guys
Is his vertical anywhere near this??
(re-watched that game last night)
I'm really confused about how this "dead period" works. If they can't contact recruits right now how are they offering them?
They can't meet face-to-face, but they can speak by phone or written communication.
He didn't have one from Miami until they hired Ron Dugans, and that's when he got the offer. Miami and VT have both loaded their coaching staffs. I feel like Florida may be harder to get recruits from but VA may be easier. I've said a million times I feel like our rivalry with Miami is about to heat up big time on the gridiron and hopefully no legal issues between players and fans off of it.
Nor the mascots. I was in the Orange Bowl in 1996 when Hokie Bird and Ibis squared off.
