This Weekend:
Notre Dame beats #9 Duke as a 9 point underdog
Clemson beats #8 Miami as a 5 point underdog
Virginia Tech beats Georgia Tech as a 7.5 point underdog
Florida State beats #13 UVA as a 3.5 point underdog.
If you want to toss in Syracuse beating Wake Forest as a small underdog, and you have 5 upsets in the weekend!
This was only the 2nd home loss for Duke in the last 4 years! What happened? Giving up 95 points in Cameron Indoor?
Where did this Clemson come from? Is this the same Clemson that got blown out by UMass, Georgia and lost to a really bad Minnesota team in the non conference? Now they beat 3 ranked teams IN A ROW?
What is Virginia Tech doing near the top of the standings? 4 straight years in the ACC cellar and now VT is 4-1 in the ACC? Alabama State is a distant memory.
You look at the top 4 in the ACC and you don't see Duke, Miami or UVA, but you will see Clemson and VT.
Speaking of UVA, what's going on with them? After getting nonconference wins vs #6 Villanova and #11 WVU, I thought UVA figured out the new college rules. But once they get into conference play they lose to VT, GT and FSU? That's what I'd expect from their football team, not their basketball team.
It's been a very interesting start to the ACC season, so far! It's going to be fun to see what happens going forward.

I like to think that we somehow gave UVA the plague. We're a curse on their season. Sure, it would be better if they stayed good and we can claim the marquee win over them, but there's also a lovely amount of schadenfreude thinking we totally derailed them.
> We're a curse on their season.
If by season you mean every year since 1872, then we're in agreement!
Schadenfreuva
Because the ACC is the deepest league in basketball. Indeed, every loss is a high quality loss, and every win is a major accomplishment on par with beating the best teams in other, lesser conferences.
Am I doing this whole conference superiority circular logic thing correctly?
Umm I don't know how to feel about being the sec of basketball
Do you feel like getting into tournaments over teams from other conferences? Or how about getting free advertising and a bigger conference check? Getting more games on TV or in better time slots? I know unearned superiority has a dirty LOLUVA feel to it, but we are earning it on the court so far.
I'll take the accompanying tourney invites and free money.
UVA, Duke, and Miami aren't near as good as their rankings suggest.
VT, Clemson, and Notre Dame are all better than they are getting credit for. (Clemson is on a hot streak vs ranked opponents)
Wouldn't it be sweet to win the ACC tourney this year while other teams are beating up on each other.
All I know is that we are nearly 1/3rd of the way into the conference schedule and these spunky Hokies are tied for 3rd in the ACC standings.
Close wins, lucky wins, whatever. That doesn't mean anything as long as you get better each game and start stocking some Ws
Would love to see these guys keep building and get themselves some postseason experience with an NIT bid. Would love to Dance, but that's a full on hype train dream at this point.
It was a crazy weekend for sure. It is hard to tell how good we really are because we have won games we shouldn't have, lost games we shouldn't have and been blown out by WVU and Duke. I think we will end up a middle of the pack ACC team this year if our defense can tighten up some. We will take some beatings along the way and it would be really nice to win a game by more than 3 points for a change.
Thats a sign of good things I guess,
I remember not even two years ago the mantra was more like, ' it would be really nice to win a game
by more than 3 pointsfor a change.I uttered 'it would be really nice to keep it close' a lot back then
Not sure exactly what's happening, but I like the Buzz of it all.
Sounds like it's time to bust this bad boy out, dust it off, make a quick change and give it a spin!

So looking at the latest RPI breakdown, we're only favored in one game at this point for the rest of the schedule, obviously BC. I hope we continue to play like underdogs with something to prove. Obviously winning will change favoritism. Momentum is huge in basketball and we've got it. I do doubt the level of talent we have beaten, though. The next 4 games should really tell us where we are competitively in the ACC.
This isn't just a phenomenon in the ACC either - highly ranked teams are dropping like flies everywhere.
There's no consensus #1 team in the country this year, which makes it one of the more fun years in college basketball that I can remember.
KenPom Rankings
Yeah, we still have a long way to go. Progress doe.
Yeah but Notre Dame always beats someone they shouldn't.
Was just looking at our schedule, and noticed the halftime act for the UNC game is the VA Lottery Game Guy...
And they're "striping the Cassell"
I just got really excited!!!! And I'm not even a big BBall fan. I just like Whit a lot.
Thank you Vietnam!!!!
Did Dooookkeeee just lose again at home to an unranked team?
and just like that we're a game and a half ahead of Duke and 2 games ahead of LOLUVA, it may not last, but we can enjoy it now
Something would really be going in the ACC if VT win the conference and make the NCAA . For now, there is really nothing going on, just the bad teams making improvement .
Coach K needs someone to call Whine-1-1
I love the girl in the black shirt. She's nodding along like, "Yeah. YEAH! You tell him, Coach."
Don't look now, but we're in second place...next stop
Virginia tech ncaam champions confirmed.
VT is breaking the ACC. The only team to win their next game after playing us is ND, who played a terrible BC team.
