Mike Barber of the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported the news of Asante's departure. Asante played just 43 snaps at receiver in 2012, and had two receptions for 18 yards. Asante wasn't a proven commodity, but was one of a few receivers expected to compete for significant playing time this fall.
In related news, LT3 mentioning Charley Meyer's roll in the offense at ACC Media Days makes more sense now.

Definitely hurts depth out wide. Hopefully meyer can fill that spot
What on earth? Did he leave or get kicked off? Going to have to watch for more details.
Joel Caleb better step up as well. They may not need Caleb to be a starter, but they need a depth receiver with size in case DJ Coles has any injury issues.
Absolutely was very excited when we managed to sign him. Hoping he lives up to his potential
This I don't understand.....from David Teel's twitter: (Sorry, I haven't figured out how to do the fancy twitter box thing yet).
So is Tyler talking about future discipline? The Asante thing? Anyone have any idea?
IMO, I think David Teel is implying the two are linked and that Asante will be disciplined. But I don't know.

Thanks for enlightening me re: twitter embeds!
Agree with French. This is Joel Caleb's time to step up.
Joel Caleb and Josh Stanford. Next man up.
Important note. According to the roster on hokiesports, Stanford is listed as a Redshirt Freshman. Thats an important designation since there was some doubt about whether he would be awarded a medical redshirt for last season.
"No Marquise Williams, no PT. That was the deal, Kev"
I really like Charley Meyer. In the spring scrimmages I attended, Meyer got walloped a couple of times on long passes from Thomas, and still held onto the football. He's the kind of wide receiver that is in the mold of Moorehead: hard-worker, smart, and according to Logan, has the want-to. He is similar to, dare I say it, Danny Coale, who by the way is still open.
Somewhere there is an FSU corner losing Danny Coale in coverage and recognizing he's always open
