My fellow key players as most of you may or may not know I am currently in Afghanistan, I went to the gym today and there is a row of flags from many diff teams and vt isn't one of them! It starts w bama and goes to Pitt unc Clemson and Hawaii and even Illinois! I have a pic but can't figure out how to insert it on this iPad

I also must express my disgust at the lack of Hokie gear at the Fort Lee PX. They claim that this is due to Walmart having plenty nearby, yet that doesn't stop them from stocking plenty of other schools ' paraphernalia.
I work for DCMA -I'll make sure to stop in and voice my active displeasure next time I'm visiting HQ and need to yell at the minimum wage cashier in the PX... If only to make myself feel better...

This is the flag I flew on our C-130 during my last deployment. Where are you at? They didn't have any flags anywhere on Bagram when I was there. Stay safe.

I'm actually from Salem but my family moved to the NRV after I left college. Since I'm a big family girl I have made my home there as well. My sister lives in C-burg so I stop by a lot. I'd love to live in B-burg but WAYYY too expensive for just myself.
Yeah, I'll be living with a few friends who are now grad students. But, it's also a bit cheaper at the fringes of town.

This is why I avoid many of the downtown bars in State College. Someone asked me if I wanted to go to this one dive bar the other day and I responded with, "I think I'm too old for that place".

I typically steer away from tots when school is in. Not a huge fan of the mass of frat guys. Too many tank tops and popped colors. Pj's may be my favorite bar in blacksburg. Also have ran into a ton of former players there

yeah i've never brought it up because everybody on here loves tots but i'm with you, frat city. not that i have anything against anyone who's been in a frat, just not my scene when it's en masse. give me the rivermill or bull and bones. my wife likes macados so we go there a lot. we go to the underground a lot of times if we're barhopping on gameday mainly because you can usually get a seat pretty easy. i suspect that may have something to do with the shitty service.
i enjoy river mill a lot. bull and bones isnt really my scene either just because im on the younger side of people on here i think at 25. most of the times that ive been to bull and bones its been mostly people over 30 not a problem with that at all just not where my friends end up. river mill, pks, big als, hokie house those are my main stops
Bull and Bones has a quieter atmosphere, for sure. I take the girlfriend there whenever she's in town, they have really good food and a couple of good house beers.
But it's definitely not somewhere to go just for the bar on Friday night or anything.
I honestly feel like Big Gay Al's is the most crowded/fratty bar. I try to avoid that place at all costs. They started charging a $1 cover this past semester anyway, so I don't see any reason to pay to get in so that I can never get service at the bar.

I've only been to Rivermill once. It was during the summer and at lunch time. Little did we know they don't serve you at your table for lunch. We sat and waited forever for a waiter. Ended up having to order everything at the bar. WTF. Maybe this has changed since then. But it left a bad taste in my mouth and I haven't been back.
Haha, sorry to hear about your bad experience. As far as I know, it has always been like that, I believe they even have a sign when you walk in directing you to the bar for food orders. Don't avoid The Mill because of that, I would definitely recommend another trip. They have the best beer selection of any bars, you can normally get a seat/pool table/dart board to socialize at, and their Rivermill Tots or Fries are the bees knees! Think: Tots (or fries) covered in cheese, bacon, jalapenos and served with a side of ranch.
If I already have a small group of people and we want to sit/play pool and get easy bar service we always went to Champs. It was never a problem getting to the bar and your not wall to wall.
Yeah, Champs was always my go-to place. Also because I went to HS with a bartender there so free drinks!

I brought a VT flag out with me on the boat, hanging up in my stateroom now. I plan on taking a picture with it by my helo later on in deployment!
I had planned on flying that one on top of our OP and get a picture with it and send to the football program. 2 problems arose though. 1) You don't stand outside for any length of time, especially in large groups in daylight hours in Kunar province. And 2) The taliban goat effing, infidel beheading, rat bastards are probably LOLUVA fans and that really would've pissed them off. Since their were only 35 of us and millions of them I called it off.

I hope it blocks out the neers' flag! And those inflatable shelters are truly a step-up from what was used by GIs decades ago; many are now air conditioned.
