Taylor and Wood were named as replacements late Sunday evening for a pair of Carolina Panthers Pro Bowl players in quarterback Cam Newton and center Ryan Kalil. Both are going to be busy as they've advanced to Super Bowl 50 after Carolina's win over Arizona in the NFC championship game Sunday.
One season as the starting QB and he is in the Pro-Bowl.

One of my favorite Hokies ever! Congrats, Tyrod!
It took longer than expected, but we all knew tyrod would light it up when he got his chance.
Taylor is the man! So glad he finally got his chance!
Yes. Yes. Yes. Awesome. Well done.
Outside Mike Vick I can't think of a more exciting player from VT to watch.
That's the background on my computer. I was a freshman in '07, tyrod made it an exciting time in Blacksburg. Congrats to him!
Guess I'll watch the probowl this year
The final seconds of the Nebraska game in 2009 still gives me chills. He's an exceptional person on and off the field. Very happy for him!
As a Panthers fan this is like a win-win. We're going to the SUPER BOWL, and the fact that we are gets Tyrod into the Pro Bowl in his first year as a starting QB in the NFL.
This has been a damn fun season. Glad its not over, yet.
First Cam Chancellor, now Tyrod? I have two reasons to watch the pro-bowl.
"Cam"
Kam is skipping the Pro Bowl. In fact a record number of players are not going this year.

Its gotten to the point where they really should just scrap the Pro Bowl. Between not having players in the SB playing, and now entire starting lineups declining to attend, its a shell of its former self.
Yeah, I've never had any real interest in the Pro Bowl, but I'm finding it even less interesting than usual. Drafting players onto teams? Come on. This just seems patronizing at this point.
I say turn it on its head. The players do not want to risk their bodies for a talent show. So turn the Pro Bowl into something more interesting, maybe invite the best of the best out for a skills challenge. Have corporate donors pledge money for charities of the players' choosing as they try fun challenges in skill and strength competitions. That may sound corny, but if no one's taking hits for no good reason, it could be fun.
I think this is the key. The best part of MLB all star stuff is the home run derby. The best part of the NHL all star stuff is the skills competition. The best part of the NBA all star stuff is the dunk contest. NFL should hop on and build around that concept if they want to keep viewers. The game lost its luster a long time ago.
The best part of the NBA all star stuff USED TO BE the dunk contest. FWIW
now even that is watered down with guys who barely play in actual games but can jump out the gym. I don't want to see miles plumlee and Gerald green dunk offs I want to see Lebron vs Rusell Westbrook. This too like the NFL the stars just aren't coming out anymore.
I'm about 95% sure that the most recent winners have been starters or sixth men, or have become such.
starters or 6th man does not constitute an all*star. atleast not in this case where we are talking about how watered down the pro bowl is.
Well, staying with the theme about the dunk contest, it was never established that you had to be an All-Star to participate. Dominique Wilkins wasn't selected as an All-Star the first year he won, nor was Kobe Bryant. Spud Webb? Kenny Walker? Dee Brown? Heh.
By the numbers, of all the dunk contest participants, only five are Hall of Famers (Erving, Jordan, Pippen, Sampson, Wilkins), with maybe another two on the way (Allen, Bryant). You almost never got the best players in the league to participate in the dunk contest. We romanticize the Jordan-Wilkins-Erving highlights to the point that the competition now looks watered down, but the truth of the matter is that outside of a scant few legitimate All-Stars, the rest of the field has usually looked just like you described it: "guys who can jump out the gym but don't really see the court otherwise."

All that said, I don't disagree with you about the Pro Bowl.
They could make changes to it that I think would make it better. Move it to after super bowl, require at least attendance even if you are not playing, move it out of Hawaii so more fans could go, up incentive pay, do rookies and 2nd year players only game. Etc.
I dunno, Hawaii is a reward in and of itself for the players involved. Many go just for that trip.
Maybe have the annual NFL Awards in Hawaii every year the week after the Super Bowl. At this event, announce the Pro Bowl rosters. And let that be the end of it. The problem with the NFL is they don't have the single skills event like the Home Run Derby, Dunk/3 pt Contest, or Shootout like the other major sports have. Just name the rosters and let that be that.
They just have to find some and build around it. People watch the combine. I'd say they could easily do 40 yard dash, bench press competition, QB skills challenge, some sort of catching competition and then top it off with a team relay race/general skills contest.
They should just turn it into something like the old Superstars TV show. I distinctly remember as a kid watching someone complain about Deion Sanders' gold Prime Time medallion hitting them in the head during a basketball shooting competition. Herschel Walker would probably still win today.
Btw, Bills just signed Jarrett Boykin a few days ago. He still has to make the roster but have to think Tyrod had something to do with getting his Hokie teammate picked up
I would love to think that but players don't generally get a say in signings
I imagine it is more of the chemistry between the 2 the GM is taking the chance on. Not to mention Jarrett has the biggest hands I have ever seen.
Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!! WTG #5!!!!
Team Rice for Tyrod.
Knowing that his contract is heavily based on performance, this probably gives him a nice payday which is awesome because he deserves it.
I dunno. I read that the alternates don't get the contract incentives for being chosen for the Pro Bowl. Basically, you have to be on the initial list.
Awwwww yisssssssssss
Tyrod's not off to a good start in the pro bowl. This game is hard to watch. I sure I would rather watch a skills competition or a mic'd up flag football game versus this trash.
Honestly, they should go the route the way the NHL did... Don't want to play defense? Take it out and make it a 7 on 7 mini tournament. What they did in hockey today wasn't terrible, which is an improvement on the past.
Only six INTs during the season? Must have been saving them for the big stage!
If they decide to make changes, they need to make them early and announce them often so anyone that saw this mess and is leaning toward not bothering next year (me) can become interested again. Call the Chase people at NASCAR; they know how to overhaul a format.
(OT: I go to MeUndies.com - a clothing store - one time, and my TKP experience is bordered by $18 women's thongs...on a white background with no women in them)

Curious that you specified "no women" instead of "no one." I'm going to assume that means there are men in those thongs.

I pictured this going one of two ways, and you picked option three...
Anyone watch the game? How'd Tyrod do?
I saw highlights. Two picks, but I mean who cares, and threw a long toe-tap touchdown in the corner of the EZ on the run.
I saw a drive where they scored a touchdown.
Watching Tyrod play QB is a beautiful thing.
Kind of OT but pro-bowl related: what was the deal with certain offensive players getting reps on defense late in the game? I was probably in the minority of people who were watching towards the end of the pro-bowl as it was (only tuned in late in my defense), but I was not expecting to see OBJ getting reps at safety.
If the lack of tackling doesn't make it seem pointless enough, this made it seem even more laughable. Did this happen in past years and I just never noticed?
I think defensive players also got snaps on offense. I didn't watch the game but I heard Richard Sherman took a sweep and was tackled by his teammate. I think the point was to let the guys have some fun really.
thats right, i forgot about the Richard Sherman sweep... lost about 20 yards if memory serves. I get the point that the game is supposed to be for fun, and I certainly wouldn't want to see players get hurt in a game like this, but stuff like that really makes it a tough game to watch.
The pro bowl is really a joke. Should really just turn it into a skills competition like they used to have in the 90's. No defense is played and most of the biggest names don't even go.
Who else misses the blue chalk football target practice
MV7 certainly doesn't.
yea I didnt watch it till after I posted it. Man was he bad at it. I remember watching reruns all day during the summers when I was in high school.
