Ed. Note: This post has been updated with quotes from Dzansi.
2016 OT/DE Silas Dzansi of Woodbridge, Va.'s C.D. Hylton HS didn't need very long to decide he wanted to become a Hokie.
Dzansi told The Key Play that Virginia Tech offered him today, and convinced him to flip his commitment from Delaware State on the spot.
The newest Hokies commit says it was OL coach Vance Vice that made the journey out to his school, setting a meeting with him and some of Hylton's coaching staff to officially make the offer. Dzansi says he accepted the offer as soon as Vice extended it, a decision that ensured that "everyone in the room was excited," but he's felt confident he'd be Blacksburg bound for a while now.
Dzansi got a chance to meet Vice soon after he joined Tech's staff back in December, and he remembers their first conversation well.
"The first time I met him, he kind of looked at me, and when he saw how big I was his eyes kind of flared up and he stood up and had to look up at me, which is kind of funny," Dzansi said. "He said 'I like you, and I want you at Virginia Tech,' so from that moment I knew I'd probably end up at Virginia Tech."
As a former college offensive lineman, Vice is hardly of short stature, so it's no surprise that the experience of seeing Dzansi and his 6'5", 260-pound frame was a meaningful one. Though he's also played defensive line in his brief time playing football, Dzansi says it was film of his time at left tackle this past season that also helped convince Vice to extend an offer.
"He really likes how aggressive I was and how I was able to protect the quarterback and stay on blocks," Dzansi said.
But even if Vice wasn't very familiar with Dzansi until recently, the senior certainly knew plenty about the Hokies.
"I always knew I wanted to go to Virginia Tech," Dzansi said. "I grew up watching it and it's always been my dream school, so when they said I had a chance to go to Virginia Tech, I took it right away."
He's gotten the chance to see his preferred program several times at this point β in addition to camping at Tech in July, Dzansi said he visited for last season's games against Duke and North Carolina.
Dzansi added that he plans to take an official visit to Blacksburg this weekend, but that trip will have to serve as his last taste of Tech for a bit. He says he'll be enrolling at Fork Union Military Academy for the fall semester to "get my test grades up" and refine his game before heading to Tech in the spring.
In the meantime, Dzansi says he'll be counting the days until he can see a game day in Blacksburg again.
"I want see the home crowd again, come out the tunnel with 'Sandman' going and feel the vibe and that energy, that's what I'm most excited for," Dzansi said.

Did anyone else the think the guy was 72 when you first clicked the article? I feel like the eye is drawn to him in the picture.
That's probably Matthew Burrell. He attended Hylton.
72 is Matthew Burrell. He is going to Ohio State and chose them over us. You may remember him for this comment after we beat Ohio State (he was visiting them that weekend).
EDIT: MPHOKIE beat me to it.
That comment.
Did he transfer after the game this year when Cardel and the others posted all those tasteless comments?
That comment:
No, but you're entitled to your own opinion.
That's the joke I couldn't figure out how to word, leg for you.
I thought so too. My first thought was: "Who's that #51 down at the end? He just looks like a football player." Glad to know my spidey senses are still sharp.
OL bodies, it's what Tech needs.
Are there any highlights of him as an OT?
265 lbs, will need to bulk up a bit once he hits campus
He's going to FUMA for a semester, I'm sure he will be considerable bigger by the time he arrives on campus in a year
Where is that information linked at? Grades? Reason?
I believe it's just a greyshirt. I don't recall anyone saying anything about academics, so I think it's simply to help him beef up and develop a bit.
Its on the 247 article. Bolts are free if you have the 247 app, Andy Bitter is also reporting it citing the 247 article
From this TKP article that you are commenting on:
(Edit: didn't see this editor's note before I posted)
Great info
Link to a story on him from several months ago
Still new to football it seems, but he has the athleticism to play tackle. Apparently ran a 4.9 40 yd dash at 275 lbs
Here is an image of him at running back... speed kills man.
Immediate Commit upon offer?
+5500
I love it when that happens
I wonder how many times Fuente had to save and reload to get it.
Ahhh...its like the "Instant Commit" perk in NCAA 14....love it.
I looked at his height, 6'5", and thought "that is a little short" since we will soon have a second 6'9" OT.
Well this is very encouraging

Free for those wondering
Thanks for the link.
This makes me happy:
Dzansi has been given a high three-star grade on 247Sports and don't be surprised to see him blossom into one of Virginia Tech's top players out of this 2016 class.
Welcome to the family, Silas.
Wow yeah, that's a solid endorsement. Barton Simmons is one of their top guys nationally I'm pretty sure.
Fuente's brought in 3 OL, and of the two "developmental" guys, one has an NCST offer and the other has a "high 3-star, big-time steal" review from 247's national guy. Both are 6'6+ and have basketball backgrounds. Fuente is finding guys with excellent frames and mobility as our down-the-road OL prospects; such a stark contrast to how we've filled out that area in the past. Love it
Well we did the TE to OL move a bunch, so I don't say it's a stark contrast to how we've filled out that area in the past.
Wow... around the 40 sec mark in the tape, he rushed the QB and forced a bad throw for an interception. He then proceeds to pancake one of the OLine dudes that was chasing the play.... I LIKE this OT and his athletic play!
He's a big man and wants to be a hokie what more could anybody want?!?!
I'm just jacked that we're his dream school. So we don't have to worry about him going to Fork Union and then getting snatched up by some other team.
Hope that is the case, but its never over until he makes it onto campus.
Aaaahhh, the home stretch of recruiting. Nice to be on the right end of this equation:

With that picture, you might want to reconsider your phrasing.
I am so stupid it took me three times reading your post, over several hours, to get it. I wish I were able to give you three legs.
And I'm back, needing YOUR post to finally get it!
Apparently I am the one on the right side of the equation, when all is said and done...
#fullcirclescience
Leg for admitting there is someone on this site slower on the uptake than me. That took real courage. Thanks, Coach.
but what if he really meant "stage right"
#mindBlown
This is where the "I'm so confused!!" gif would come in handy.
Its all good kid...just work on getting those grades up and you'll be walking through that tunnel soon.
What is 72 going to do with that diaper he's holding?
Committed to Virginia Tech, he says he plans to recruit one of his teammates, current blue chip '18 running back Ricky Slade Jr.
Rick Slade would be a great character to feature in the Cases of Dick Johnson.
