"Common factors in Nick Saban's last 7 losses"

This is a great read from Pete Roussel of coachingsearch.com: http://coachingsearch.com/home/3280-common-factors-in-nick-sabans-last-7....

To fit the mold of previous winners, Tech will have to score touchdowns in the red zone against one of the best red zone defenses, eliminate turnovers, pound the rock, convert third downs (third-and-Logan please make a resurgence this year), play terrific defense, especially in the box, and hope Alabama makes uncharacteristic mistakes.

So, in other words, the things that generally help you win games, more often than not.

And, in addition, do everything we didn't do last year. Awesome!

I believe John Madden would say something along the lines of, "The biggest and most important common factor in Nick Saban's last 7 losses is that the other team had more points than his team. It's very difficult to win a game when the other guys score more than you do."

You left out a Brett Favre comment. He always mentions Brett Favre.

and penetration. Don't forget that the d-line needs to get good penetration.

Agreed. The more penetration for the d, the better. Giggity.

you guys just wanted to say penetration *giggity*

I think what's notable is that the combination of all those factors going against Alabama so rarely is another stat that just confirms that Saban has had them clicking well as good as a coach can over an extended period of time. Shows that they are very well coached.

At least we'll be spared the pain of watching Saban and Kirby Smart toy with Not-Ready-for-Primetime-Spring's game planning.

To beat Bama, you have to play winning football - only more so.

Bama fans seem to think they are unbeatable. All that I've encountered have been utterly terrible. Can't wait to #BEATBAMA and make them eat a nice hefty platter of crow

Are you forgetting the Saban voodoo doll?

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

We need Pedro Cerrano on our staff.

Rip his freaking head off!

With the exception of LSU, didn't the remaining five teams all run the spread? Pretty sure Utah continued to do so after Meyer left.

Reality has a mighty pimp hand.

That's a terrific point. Probably part of the reason Saban is on this slowing down the game crusade.

One thing that frustrated me last year was Tech's hurry up. It was more of a hurry up to the line then look to the sideline for a play call. The point of hurry up is to catch the D off guard, get them winded, prevent subsitutions, and get them out of position. Hope to see some improvement in that this fall. It could be a good strategy against Bama in the first game if we can sustain drives and keep them on their heals.

And the fact that ocainspring had no idea when to run it. After a big play boom run up and fire off the next play. But they would do it after a we screen for a loss of 2

You need big plays to be able to run it after a big play...

It was a catch

We did have plays of over ten yards last season, not many but a few

The hurry up was not run well, but I think O'Cain/Stiney were having them hurry up to the line so they could get a look at what the defense was going to give them. Now that being said, it doesn't really do you any good because with defense will normally just go base. Then once we pull up to look at the sideline, they look at their sideline too. We switch our formation, they switch their formation. It's like a chess match. Doesn't do the o really any good IMO. (Maybe prevent substitutions).
