Jeezus! Ty Walz is a big man!
If I grew a beard, I would totally look just like that. I swear.
Why do you have access to that?
1:02 in for deadlifts too!
Gotta find source mterial for highlight videos!
In Jersey/PA, it's perfectly normal for any man to have a healthy collection of shirtless wrestler pics.
Originally from Jersey. No it's not.
Well it holds true for the part of PA I'm from, and the next city over (which is in NJ).
Are you talking South Jersey? Yeah.. those Philly fans are weird as hell.
Well....here in Central NJ, we refer to the state to the west as Pennsyltucky
Inside PA, that's everything west of Allentown and east of Pittsburgh.
Is that anything like Pennsatucky?

Being from Central Jersey as hokietopher is and having lived in Philly for two years while in grad school The sleeveless thing is more endemic to Philly.
Though now living in bum F AL the norm is to be completely buck ass naked high on illicit drugs. Let's just say the last week I have seen more naked people around town than I've ever wanted to see.
That Ty Walz headgear throw celebration is on par with batflip.gif for best non-revenue sport gif.
That definately needs to work its way into circulation. Home run!
The headgear toss is what does it for me. Ty is a real dude!
Joey Dance, leads all Hokie athletics with best tattoo, no doubt about it.
I wonder if the corners get rounded when he flexes.
Wears the flag?! That's clearly unsportsmanlike conduct /s
Hokies should move to 5th or 6th in the rankings with both NC state and Mizzou losing this weekend.
I'm guessing 5th, with Lehigh getting beaten pretty badly (28-9) by PSU as well.
You are correct, although the polls haven't been updated yet.
We'll find out tomorrow. New polls come out on Tuesdays.
Came out early this week: http://www.nwcaonline.com/NWCAWebSite/DICollegeTeamRankings/2016/02/15/c...
VT is #5, NCSU is #4
Still getting punished for the ISU loss, if we were healthy in that match we would certainly be #3 and probably facing Penn State again this weekend for the title.
I think I read somewhere that this National Duels system was intended to avoid rematches so we wouldn't be getting Penn St. anyway. Even if they weren't trying to avoid rematches, Okie Lite is still the top-ranked team outside of the B1G and would get the 'honor' of being thumped by PSU.
The purpose is to have a Duals National Champion so they would have a rematch if it meant having the two best teams go head to head. The discrepancy is that the Hokies just beat NC state head to head but are still behind them, leading to facing Michigan and not Iowa.
The purpose appears really to be getting TV exposure and appeasing Big10 coaches. They're trying to create something like the bowl system, (a system that also tries to avoid rematches). If it were really about crowning a duels national champion, the winners from the round of 8 would advance to a quarterfinal, then to a semifinal, then to a final. Or there'd only be one meet, instead of 8.
According to the NWCA, who organizes this event, one of the designed objectives of this event is:
"Try to avoid a rematch of two teams that already competed against each other earlier in
the year" Link
To make duals matter they want a Duals National Champion from the top match. They aren't going to pass on a team just to avoid a rematch. The rest of the matches they will avoid rematches but the title dual won't have that stipulation. It would be no different than when Alabama and LSU had a rematch in the National Championship game.
If the goal was really to crown a Duals National Champion, it wouldn't be structured the way it is. Right now, Penn State and Iowa are in the same conference, both undefeated, and ranked #1 and #2. Between them, they've won something like 7 of the last 8 national championships. Conference scheduling did not pit them against each other, which happens about one year in every 3. Yet, the event is structured to prevent them from wrestling each other. If they really wanted a legitimate Duals champ, they'd let those two duke it out, don't you think?
It is because it is the first year that the structure sucks but their goal is still to have a national champion. They have still slated the Penn State vs Oklahoma State dual as the title match. The Big Ten schools were the only ones that reserved the dates for a match so they had to host instead of wrestling each other. I would expect the format to change next season to allow the number 1 and 2 wrestle even if they are from the same conference. Just because the format isn't ideal because it was rushed together doesn't make your point valid.
And there was much rejoicing!!!
I have been enjoying bragging about it to all my Tobacco Road fans here in NC.
Fun fact, Bill Murray bowled an actual Turkey when filming this scene and the crowd reaction you see is authentic.
Fantastic!
Neat-O!
That is a tall softball player!
awesome work gentlemen
So does the ACC recognize 2 team champions for wrestling? Dual Meet and tournament champion? That seems a bit strange to me since there is no 'dual meet' national champion. Congrats none the less!
If it's anything like high school wrestling, there are three types of championships:
I understand that, but the NCAA does not award a trophy for the Duel meet National Champion so I am curious if the ACC does. For example, last year VT won the dual meet title, but UVA won the tournament. Did VT get an ACC wrestling championship trophy?
I am having a hard time finding the answer online. Wiki only lists the tournament champions and I didn't find anything on the ACC's site.
The ACC recognizes both as official championships. The NCAA does not (as there is no team dual format any of the coaches can agree on)
No trophy but there is a banner in the wrestling room.
Cool. When does that tournament for the nationals start?
National Duals, not a tournament, is next weekend and the Hokies will face Michigan on Sunday at 2 pm. The ACC championship is March 6 and the NCAA championship starts March 17.
Where the match be held at?
It'll be held at Michigan. The National Duals features 8 B1G teams vs. the other 7 conference champs and one wild card. All 8 duals will be hosted by the B1G schools.
Edit: Apparently the Pac12 is sitting out due to scheduling conflicts with their conference tourney, so this year it's 6 conference champs and 2 at-larges.
Dumb
I won't shoot the messenger, but man do I want to downvote.
While it's exciting to be invited to the National Duels, I can't pretend I don't hate Michigan. I hope we curb-stomp those jokers. Anyone have any idea how we can get Danny Coale named honorary referee for this one?
Umm how is NCST ranked higher?
UVA grad is in charge of the math? I don't know either.
In all honesty, I believe it is based off points accrued not necessarily who beat who like football. I have an exceedingly tenuous understanding however.
I think it's a coach's poll, so much like the football polls, it's subject to human biases. My guess is that NC State lost only once, and VT lost twice, so voters are giving them the benefit of the doubt. They've beaten several very good teams this year, and they also competed in a heck of a lot more duals than we did.
I still disagree with the rankings. We were down 3 starters when we lost to ISU. We beat them 32-3 when we faced them with a full starting line-up. If we wrestled NC State tomorrow I still think we would beat them again, maybe even by a bigger margin. It was not a fluke like football games are sometimes.
Edit: it's not that I think NCSU is bad I just think Tech is that good. I think we could beat anyone ranked above us right now except Penn State. A match up vs Iowa would be very close.
And when we beat them 32-3 they were down several wrestlers as well. Really it is hard to argue the rankings when we've had some many guys that were either hurt or inconsistent the whole season.
And really for the National duals if you aren't the top non BIG10 team then it doesn't really matter where you are ranked. I'm sure Dresser just has them focused on gearing up for ACCs right now and the match against Michigan will be a good warm up for that.
True. But when we were down they barely beat us. Either way, I don't guess it matters. I think we're a much better dual team than tournament team. The ACC tournament is not going to be a walk in the park.
Currently tied 80 -80 in my advanced predictions. Will change before the actual tourney, but looks very much like a 2 horse race compared to VT UVA Pitt last year
Are these advanced predictions published out there somewhere that we could read them? Or is this more of a scribbled in a notebook kinda thing?
Very very early projection, reserve the right to change them, already did, swapping Nye and Boykin at 197 to give NCSU 2 more points:
NCSU - 82
VT - 80
UNC - 40.5
DUKE - 37
UVA - 33.5
PITT - 27
Basic process is 1st place at each class earns 12 pts, 2nd place earns 9, 3rd place earns 5.5, 4th place earns 3.5.
Again this is the score based on expected seeding alon, not how i actually see it finishing.
I am guessing the bonus points for falls and tech will be a big deal then if its going to be that close. Like I mentioned in another thread I feel like NCST will be favored due to their big 3 or 4, going to have to hope we have some upsets to pull it off.
Yeah they have 4 #1 seeds right now, Jack Gantt Roskopf and Gwiaz, and that accounts for 48 of 80 points
That's tough to compete with. Having 4 champs would probably win it, but something tells me Jack gets upset.
How many #1's we got? 3?
FWIW we should have 7 at either 1 or 2 seed (72 pts)....State will only have Renda as another highly seeded for a total of 57 pts.
2 with my quick look, dance at 125 and zavatsky at 184
I'm hoping Solomon can finish above his seed. Do you have Epp or Ramos at #1 seed?
Ramos at #1, no head to head and coaches often seem to default to poll position.
Would be nice to be going to iowa instead as they are a tougher match-up but really this is just a warm up for the ACC tourney anyway in the grand scheme of things.
