Derp.
I'm thinking it's a fake. All the Hokie Birds take an oath of secrecy for the duration of their time at Tech. I doubt any of them would break that oath for something stupid like this.
Good one LOLUVA.
I'm thinking our return volley should be their senior class president asking Thomas Jefferson to do commencement.
No, it is a Hokie Bird. Cross reference the names of Homecoming Court to the name on the letter and it is in fact a Hokie Bird. Said person doesn't exactly hide their identity as a HB very well.
Well...shit. Although, seeing the sponsoring organization, this letter makes WAAAAAY more sense.
yeah, college humor has put this on my tumblr feed at least 4 times this week. i think its a fake. even if the hokiebird was home schooled in the alaskan wilderness and thought kurt cobain was still alive, if she knew anything about nirvana she'd understand they'd never do anything that was so "establishment." kurt had an image to uphold after all. i think someone who wants to make hokies look clueless put this out there, and the internet is gobbling it up.
I love Nirvana, they made fantastic music and truly were trendsetters with music and I don't mean to pee on anyones grave, but after reading the below article I have to say that Kurt's image was that of a douche bag. Good to see that the dude did some incredible things after leaving Nirvana though!

May have missed something, saw more about Jason having a cloud around him and not working with Nirvana or Soundgarden. Nirvana was the tits then, and if Courtney hadn't killed Kurt, I think the music landscape would be more different today. Dude had his issues, but nothing like today's stars (Nicky minaj, Bieber, etc).
Have no problem with him not working with Nirvana and Soundgarden, but not paying the dude back that paid for your first big album is pretty lame and douchy.
My coworker gave me shit all week for this; kept saying "go hoagies"
I have a Substation II shirt that says "how bout them hoagies" and my nickname in high school was Hoagie so I ain't mad!
Fraud or not, it is not as much of a black mark as boneheads wanting to do a blackout or throwing paper airplanes at games.
Unfortunately I can tell through the poorly censoring that it is indeed one of the students who are the mascot. Not sure if she's really that dumb or not, but she definitely wrote her true identity in that letter.
I tweeted the hokie bird with that link, shortly afterward this was tweeted:

hmm, that makes me think hokiebird really is that clueless. ahh well we still love ya hokiebird. just tackle that elephant down in atlanta and while he's down on the ground ask, "whats a crimson tide?"
I'm pretty sure the Hokie Bird that runs the twitter account is a guy. He likes to give shoutouts to the lady Hokies
Does it really matter? Nirvana sucks anyway. Also, looks like the guy that sent the letter is from the 757.
incorrect
Downvoted this so fast...
That's your opinion and you're entitled to it but....they don't suck IMO. Their MTV Unplugged set was music at it's finest. They led the way for some of the greatest bands in my generation. Groups like Alice in chains, Pearl Jam, STP etc, etc...
I'm an AC/DC, Aerosmith and Rolling Stones guy. Nirvana is just really boring to me.
I'm big on classic rock, but Smells Like Teen Spirit came out while I was in middle school and promptly destroyed an entire generation. Might be boring to some, but more significant in this pantheon of music than just about anything since The Beatles recorded Tomorrow Never Knows
People might hate me for this too, but I don't love the Beatles either. I understand why they're so famous and their songs are good but I never really thought of them as great.
That's exactly what I've been trying to explain to my wife and mother-in-law since pretty soon after we started dating.
Most people don't know who Joshua Bell is either. This a culturally biased storyline that HuffPo should be ashamed of. It is not news that we are not all on the same cultural page. I mean just look at LOLUVA.
Not sure if this is joking or not, but it's quite different in that the people behind the Joshua Bell story clearly knew who he was and were interested in tracking the reaction of people rushing to work. The metro patrons who didn't recognize him weren't the ones who asked him to play violin or give a shout out.
