All 129 FBS teams as Pokemon

Came across this on reddit, thought I'd share with you good people. Pretty funny read if you've got a minute or two for some off season fluff.

So which Pokemon are we?

"Virginia Tech: Tough defense, solid ground game, blue collar program. Graveler, a Pokemon that attacks by being a rock rolling down a hill. It's also a Pokemon that could appreciate Metallica."

I'd say that's about right, your thoughts?

Here's the article for the rest of the teams.

Comments

Boston College: Metapod, because Boston College is also physically unable to attack.

Thank God we never got to that level

Wake Forest: Kakuna, an immobile Pokemon that can only protect itself by hardening its cocoon.

Not true, Kakuna can learn poison sting.

EDIT: Also, LOL at Kansas

FURTHER EDIT: I'm slightly impressed that they only pulled from outside the original 150 once (they used Hoothoot for someone)

Pokemon after 150 don't exist to me.

Well...maybe mew...mew two? Are they in the original 150?

Mewtwo clocks in precisely at #150.

I consider Mew to be an original since it first showed in the original series buuuut it's official pokedex number is 151 sooooo.....kinda?

Granted, I'm not really one to talk.

Blacksburg is more gravelly than Madison

Truth.

I can vouche for this

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

Oklahoma: Nidoking. Strong stats, with a powerful ground attack. Called the Drill Pokemon, a fine fit for oil country.

Oklahoma State: Baby Oklahoma. Nidorino, a Pokemon that evolves into Nidoking

Amongst my favorites from the list.

I would have preferred Golem, but Graveler will do.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Some of these are absolutely hilarious.

Michigan: Impressive stats, but easily one of the most weird and uncomfortable. One that you would absolutely not want coming over to your sleepover. Michigan is Jynx, a cold-weather humanoid thing that impersonates humans until people join it, much like Jim Harbaugh.

"...When we step on that field, they bleed like we bleed and we're gonna show the world."
-Corey Marshall

My Favorites:

Miami: Mew. Allegedly super powerful, but only exists on the Internet.
Kansas: Wario. Not a Pokemon, but really good at a completely different game.

I'm not a huge Pokemon fan but this is a cool list that clearly took time to assemble.

But I was a big player of Super Smash Bros on GameCube and you know who I always played with?
Mewtwo.
You know who Mewtwo is on this list?
Alabama.
Damn right son. What.

you really struck me as a Rapidash

Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies

I was more of a Toon Link guy, myself.

Go Hokies

Mr Game and Watch was my dude.

Looks like you just made yourself an enemy. You'll have to find a Jigglypuff to take your place to distract me from your horrible, horrible character.

I will fry silhouetted bacon all over your head. I had a friend play as the ice climbers and I hated those guys you couldn't knock them both off at the same time.

My friend loved marth, which was always a challenge but pretty evenly split. my other friend was jigglypuff and he was really, really, really good at using him. he would destroy me regularly, which resulted in many rage quits

Ah yes the rage quit good ole trump card. Ganon was good to use once you got used to his slowness.

Of the slow characters i hated using bowser but for some reason i won more with him than donkey kong or ganon.

Unlike mario kart battle mode, where i was always koopa troopa when racing but usually won handily with donkey kong somehow.

Using /s is for cowards.

The problem with the big guys is if you got knocked off more than a character away you were done.

Bowser and DK had little helicopter style things that could save you. Ganon was a little tougher but he did have that mid air half jump

True, but I died a lot more with those guys than anybody.
Kirby was the worst, you had to send that mfer into orbit to knock him out.

Jiggly was my favorite from the original smash (N64) mostly because everyone assumed she sucked. Poor guy got mauled in any sort of brawl, but if you survived down to one on one you could basically guarantee a win with any of 5 different combos all ending with falling asleep as the other guy went screaming off into the distance.

Warning: this post occasionally contains strong language (which may be unsuitable for children), unusual humor (which may be unsuitable for adults), and advanced mathematics (which may be unsuitable for liberal-arts majors)..

I always hated the Octopus of Death that he would become. Totally absorbed the entire map.

Go Hokies

64 Smash > Cube Smash.

Jiggly, Ness, and Luigi. Jiggily is unstoppable if you know how to play her

I am the heartbeat of Blacksburg. A fortress built out of stone but made with champions.

Virginia: Smart school, usually decent on defense, will occasionally knock off a top team, but zzzz, I'm already tired of talking about Virginia. Drowzee, a Pokemon that literally eats dreams.

Like the dreams of Thoroughbreds ever beating VT?

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Rutgers: Clearly, a Game Boy. Without it, none of this would be possible, but it's pretty useless all by itself.

Kansas: Wario. Not a Pokemon, but really good at a completely different game.

My favorites

Tennessee: Charmeleon. Young, explosive, might not be quite ready for the big time, and has the potential to set itself on fire.

I chuckled

Onward and upward

WVU: Magmar. A decent Pokemon whose body is on fire all the time. Can easily catch your couch on fire.

I LOLed

He's no good to me dead.

they even have the same fore-head "Butt" shape

FOSTERS: Australian for defense

I didn't even know there were 129 Pokemon....things?

Don't believe the hype. There are only 150 pokemon!

*151

I knew it was somewhere around there. It's been a while

By Baccardi. Also known as CubaLibre Stiff.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

My favorite:

Texas A&M: This is easy. Alakazam. Fast, hip, mysterious, great attacks, but unable to take a punch. And has to be transferred traded away to reach its full potential.

2026 Season Challenge: TBD
Previous Challenges: Star Wars (2019), Marvel (2020), Batman (2021), Wrasslin' (2022)

I never knew anything about Pokemon, but I have an 8 year old expert in my house. Her favorite on the list:

Arkansas: Slowbro.

"Don't go to, go through"

Holy Shnikes. The pure density of dorkdom expressed here - from OP to this very moment - is utterly staggering.

And very reassuring. #thisishome

the numbers don’t lie and they spell disaster

This obviously means something to Pokemon fans.

But having read Virginia Tech's description, I have a feeling they'll need a new one next year.
