There are a couple big d-linemen in the 757 for 2017. Hopefully the new staff can reel them in.

Currently 6'5'' 278. I'm guessing DT if he came to the good guys?

Using /s is for cowards.

I'm salivating over the idea that 278 lbs would be "average" on the defensive line.

Doubt it. With Foster's scheme, he's too big. I'd wager he'll be a OL when it's all said and done.

Or does Foster take the cue from Fuente to adapt his scheme to meet the abilities of his players?

I'n not an expert, but it seems to me that Foster has begun playing with 3 and 5 down linemen a lot more recently to make it more difficult for tempo offenses to dictate what defense he will be in, and thus mess with the quick read philosophy. I think seeing some of the ways Mihota was used shows he will flex what he does around what the players do well to give a different look/read.

I'm not sure he should mess around with what's worked schematically for the last decade. Sure we've been gashed recently on D, but I don't think that's due to scheme issues - just mainly not having the right ppl for said scheme - you could argue that my point illustrates your point, but I'd rather a 6'5 270 guy move to the OL than trying to put him on the DL and therefore change an entire scheme just to accommodate him.

He has constantly been tweaking his defense. We had Mihota play very well at DE for us and make plays in ways Dadi couldn't because of his size last year. Granted 6'5" 278 might be a little big for DE just based on quickness but if he has the ability to shoot a gap fast enough, he can play DT for us. He won't change the scheme but he will adapt his scheme to the players and to the changing trends of the game. If he can have a quick DL with one set and bring in a bigger more physical DL for a different situation, that only benefits us.

He adapted to a 4-2-5 over the 4-3 when we didn't have a Cody Grimm that could play the Whip. If we don't have the speed end, he will put a stand up LB there to accommodate.

sauces have said he wasn't offered as a defensive lineman

TE?

I read he was offered as an OL or an athlete depending on what site you read. He seems pretty tall to play on the DL

This is interesting. He wears #9 which would make him ineligible to play OL. If he doesn't play OL for his HS team...

There's no glory in practice and lifting but without practice and lifting, there will be no glory!

There is no right or wrong size in "Foster's scheme". The question almost always is he athletic enough to play a particular position? And the answer for the tweeners that VT generally can recruit is almost always no for the smaller position, yes for the bigger position. A big, quick twitch guy can fit into Foster's scheme just fine. VT just doesn't get many of them.

Tim Settle for example

Yep...Tim Settle for example. Maybe...we'll see.

I'm picturing him and Mihota bookending the DL every so often.

I like it.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

Why do I get a NSFW type connotation watching this gif ^^ over and over again?
Eh...sorry...back to a Blues Brothers gif for me...

Edit: Wow. 36 years. Still funny. Especially if you went to Catholic school.
