I was just browsing on BroBible and stumbled on this article about a poll taken on Reddit. Over 5,000 people voted on the most hated schools in each state. SHOCKER...UVA was voted for the state of Virginia.
The article also shows who are the top 10 nationally most hated team, and coming in at #1 shouldn't be much of a surprise to anyone.

The map is really interesting...I mean what did Alabama ever do to Alaska, or Texas do to Hawaii? How does Maine come to hate Ohio State? It's funny to see which states despise out of state foes, too. Can someone explain how Michigan gets so much ill-will in North Dakota? And I'm not sure what it says about Vegas when Alabama is the most hated team in Nevada.
Nevada hates Alabama because they don't cover the spread much.
You cant see on the pic below, but Texas is also the most hated team in... Rhode Island?
Maybe the North Dakota-Michigan thing has something to do with ice hockey? Or possibly, some of the oddballs like Maine or Alaska just have to do with small sample size. They said the poll only asked 5,000 people nationwide. I don't suspect there were more than a handful of residents of these small-population states without big-boy football programs that spend a lot of time perusing cfb reddit.

Texas did nothing to Hawaii. That is actually Boise State.
I believe UVA has the worst football team of anyone represented here, and is perhaps the one most despised for its student body over its sports teams.

Well, I am, and I can tell you that the choice of map projection is awful. The author should have chosen a projection that would have maximized the area for each state as to see the logos better and not distort them so much.

If all you hear about is how "your state school" is the best, it gets really annoying. That could explain the whole CA with USC, Texas with UT, GA with UGA, PA hating PSU (or the sandusky thing) etc etc.
It could also explain why there are so many Cowboys fans in DC.
