Hey all- quick recruiting update here in lieu of a big old post.
The Hokies are holding another junior day, though on a smaller scale than the one earlier this month.
I started poking around to assemble another large list, but it would seem that only a handful of 2017 prospects will be making it to campus this weekend:
Though he didn't confirm it to me directly, it would seem that DB Devon Hunter, a major in-state target, will also be on hand.
Going to Virginia Tech this weekend with the family #GoHokiesβ Devon Hunter (@devonhunter11) February 24, 2016
A few notes about this group:
Only Hunter and Etheridge have offers of these guys, though that could certainly change after the coaches get a look at the rest.
The Browns and Jenkins hail from Fredericksburg's Chancellor HS. None of the trio have offers, but they share an alma mater with DE Yetur Matos, another top target for Tech. He's trying to set up an "intimate" visit down the line, according to one of his assistant coaches.
Christ has a family tie to the team. Matt Christ, a freshman offensive lineman, is his brother, so Tommy says he's seen the campus a number of times, including a pair of games last year. He's being recruiting by a variety of schools, but he noted that Tech was his "dream school" due to that familial connection.
McKay also called Tech his "dream school since I was five years old," so he's looking forward to the trip as well.
I'll be touching base with all these guys to see how the visits went next week, so keep your eyes peeled.

That is

Holy crap this is awesome
Good time to remind everyone not to tweet at recruits...
/s?
Actually this is a great time, because guess who has to report this now, VT compliance office.
Even though they have to report it they are probably actually giddy that Kam gave us a shout out. It's not like the NCAA can do anything to people tweeting at recruits. I agree that the average fan should not do this though.
no they really can't go after every fan who does this but they could sanction a school. It will happen at some point and I hope VT isn't the test case.
It's not going to happen. The NCAA can't even "go after" schools that have been proven to have committed MAJOR recruiting and academic violations. If they went after a school for something as low priority as this they would get buried by the media and public and would look even more ridiculous than already do.
Is that a tarheel reference?
You don't really have to worry about us as long as #FSUtwitter still exists.
If they can't give UNC the ax then I think we're good on a tweet
How is VT in any way responsible for a former player tweeting at a kid from his old stomping grounds?
Are you going to tell Kam who he can and can't tweet at? If so, you are a better man than I.
I just watched this about 100 times

This is my current reaction while at work!!
Great, thanks for the report. This looks like a decent number of prospects. I'm hoping we continue with recruiting family ties.
Alex maybe you might know who this was, I saw a post on Twitter last week that I can't find now. A Georgia RB recruit who stated " VT was his dream school" says he holds a VT offer??

Finally a kid who got the message to not use a damn chicken emoji.
I'm probably looking way too far into this but why is he posting pics of Marcus Vick?
My best guess: there isn't all that much to it. Vick was probably the QB he remembers when he first started watching VT football as a kid.
Or he mistook MV5 for TT. Or he just liked the damn picture when it came up on Google.
I'm taking the latter.
Me, too, buddy. Me, too.
Thank you for linking to their profiles.
Always good to have a member of the Christ family on the team.
Two Christs and a Divine Deablo?
Blues brothers will always get a leg from me!
A Diamonte in the rough
Noyce, get after them Recruiticorns!
Matt McKay verballed to N.C. State.
Did he no show, or did he actually give his verbal to NC State while on our campus?
to be fair, he doesn't have an offer from us yet.
He lives in Raleigh, always wanted to go there. Probably wanted to feel wooed until realizing he'd have to give up a weekend to do it, and committed instead of calling coaches to say he did not want to visit any more.
Sauce - I have teenage boys.
He let them know he wasn't coming
Possible Guerry signal.

Lord, let it be a good one.
I think he was just building the kid up a bit. His signals are pretty obvious.
I know they aren't visiting this weekend but I feel like this is the most appropriate thread to mention that Laborn just got a lot more CBs to FSU and Matos just got a lot more CBs to Penn State.
As always I know CBs don't mean that much, especially this early but I figured somebody out there might care.
FWIW they are both visiting the schools currently that got the CBs, so there is that.
Matos committed to Penn State

Well shit.
The importance of holding camps in recruiting hotbeds:
This is why I do not feel bad about taking their top recruit in this past recruiting class and about the butt kickings they will get from ACC teams including UVA hahaha. We can still get the kid from Cox or Villain, plenty of others =D
As much as I love the enthusiasm for recruits, I think Chuck is pushing or crossing a line as far as NCAA compliance. goes We need to rein in the excitement. 757 recruit, wears #7, which likely qualifies as "personally identifiable information" and it's obvious that this is Devon Hunter. Per the NCAA:
I first saw this as part of an article about coaches using nicknames/code to refer to recruits.

I saw that and was really shocked at it.
It is getting close for sure. it will be interesting to see how these things are handled for sure
Push the boundaries. Apologize later. The NCAA is toothless.
Fuck that. That's not how I want VT to operate.
Let everyone else play dirty I want a clean program
I mean, as far as these things go, this really is small and not an issue of "clean vs dirty" as I see it. But I know VT's compliance staff works very hard to make sure everyone understands what they can and can't do, so any misstep stands out.
I was more focused on this comment than the action:
>Push the boundaries. Apologize later. The NCAA is toothless.
I agree in the grand scheme this is harmless
I'm not sure I get it. Can you explain how that tweet is "dirty"? or how it sullies VT's program?
IMO, (1) it's minor; (2) it's extremely debatable that the tweet violated any regulation; and (3) it's extremely unlikely that it will be viewed in a seriously inquisitive manner by the NCAA.
Edit: NM, you posted a response to VTG-Man about 1 second before my post.
Again it's not about tweeting it's about this comment:
>Push the boundaries. Apologize later. The NCAA is toothless.
I don't see anything wrong with this tweet, he is clearly talking about Bucky Hodges:
1 - He is from the 757 - that covers the #757Represent
2 - He wears the # 7 - that covers wears Mike Vick's number
3 - He was a QB that had his position changed in college, which made him a game changer at that level. That covers the reminds me of Kam
I'm sure some Hunter's out there will think this tweet was about some cruit out of the 757, that plays safety and wears the #7.......
Now I'm no compliance officer but to me Chuck clearly has his butt covered.
Kam is still putting in work.
