Bitter blog - Loeffler ready to hit the ground running in August camp

He spoke at a Roanoke Valley Sports Club meeting last night. I took notes.

Can we just start a "Keep The Offensive Coaches In Blacksburg" fund now, for when Weaver inevitably decides not to pay them what they're worth and they decide to take higher-paying jobs?

Weaver will be gone by the time these coaches think about leaving. At least that's what I'm hoping will happen.

Please do not insult Kevin Spacey.

Levity apart, Mr. Weaver needs to understand that in order to succeed, you need a spirit of innovation grounded on a strong work ethic. I think he gets the work ethic part; but he reminds me of the mom & pop business that goes out of business because they fail to change and adapt to a faster pace of business.

You should place one word on each slide to match his ridiculously slow delivery.

Great read, Mr Bitter.
Thanks for sharing.
It sounds like there is a vision, and then a specific plan to reach it. I'd like to hear more from Coach Morehead in time as well.
It sounds like the word for the day is 'patience.'

Apparently the Auburn faithful are all up in arms about what Lefty said last night regarding the dearth of talent at AU last year. Bill King discussed the topic this morning and basically told AU fans to look in the mirror, because Lefty's comments were spot on - though Lefty was not intentionally taking a swipe at Chizik or AU when he said what he said.

I like what I read, thanks as always Andy.

'Were going to be disciplined. If were not, Im going to lose my mind.'

I loved many, many of the quick hitters from this post (thanks so much, by the way, Andy!). And while I'm sure some of my excitement is just related to hearing a new voice, with maybe some new catch phrases, you really get the sense that this guy is the real deal, and is busting his ass. I wouldn't charge that the old offensive coaches weren't out there trying really hard to win games - I mean, of course they were. But listening to Loeffler, you REALLY believe he is out there working REALLY hard to win games. Love it.

Standing Ovation

If you just have a talented team and dont do anything -- poor coaching, what have you -- youre going to win seven games. But if you have a team thats disciplined and knows how to not beat themselves, youre going to win nine.

"Thats about how it happens in college football. If you have talent and youre super disciplined, you have a chance to win nine ballgames. Now, if youre talented, super disciplined and have leadership, you have a chance to win a championship. And thats the thing that were trying to get right now with our older players. Weve got the talent. Were going to be disciplined. If were not, Im going to lose my mind. And were creating that leadership to be a championship team."

I actually don't like that last sentence though. I love the mentality he has because discipline can help win a lot of games. But how do you create leadership?

Rip his freaking head off!

I think he's referring to instilling leadership within the players, like how Logan is becoming "meaner." Last year's team, by all accounts, was laid-back and lazy, with no one pushing for progress and improvement. It starts at the top, of course, with the coaches pushing everyone, but the players have to develop leadership, as well.

beat me to it, my boss rolled up as i was composing my thought so i had to minimize.

I wonder how many of us this happens to on a daily basis. LOL

I'm just lucky to have a boss that doesn't care because I get my work done.

@AMB4VT

That makes you a leader!

We put the K in Kwality

I'm lucky to not to have to do this. When someone rolls up while I'm looking at TKP their first question is usually, "What are the Hokies talking about today?". Considering I have the Horse printed out and posted on the back of my monitor, they're all already familiar with the fact that I keep this site open most of the day.

Unfortunately I don't work with too many Hokies that are as obsessed as I am. They would look at me like I'm crazy if I told them about TKP. There is one Hokie here that I know trolls the sabre (UVA site). He's prob on this site too. Who knows. Dude is an ass. One of those old folk fans (no offense to anyone) that hates everything about what VT is doing but yet has season tickets every season. SMH

@AMB4VT

If he's on this site then...

Oh he already knows how I feel about him....its no secret. :)

@AMB4VT

There's a hater a my work place that is continually taking down and/ or erasing my #BEATBAMA white board at my desk. Little does he know #BEATBAMA conquers all hate and doubt

Wow. Some people just really freakin suck!

@AMB4VT

You'll have to up the markers to wet erase and jury-rig some sort of trap so that they can't take the board down.

Try electrifying it...that's a lesson you only need to learn once...

We put the K in Kwality

Everyone already knows I'm a hokie fan, but I try not to spend too much work time on TKP. Most in my office are women who don't care about sports, and the hokie females we have hired in the past seem to not care about hokie sports. So i'm always pining for someone to bounce the excitement off of...

Funny...I work with mostly women in my dept (I am a woman BTW). I feel so lonely some days
like when we get a new recruit or any type of good news. I have no one to share my excitement with so I really depend on you guys from TKP. I freakin love this site. :)

@AMB4VT

leadership can certainly be developed. for some it's natural, but some people have the potential inside of them but there may be mental blocks. new behaviors and techniques can be learned to overcome that.

"That kid you're talking to right there, I think he played his nuts off! And you can quote me on that shit!" -Bud Foster

By empowering, endorsing, and investing in those with the ability and desire to lead. Some have the ability to lead, yet lack the opportunity. Others the desire, yet not the power or understanding.

An "A" is always an "A". A "B" can become an "A". with the right tools and training. A "C" will never ever be an "A".

Great opening line. Kudos! Only addition is that leadership in a team context often derives from confidence, and confidence from knowledge. So relentlessly pursuing that knowledge (in your head and by instincts/muscle memory) is one way to develop that type of leadership.

This was an awesome piece!

"Our mission here is to be simple: we want to become a unit thats very smart, that plays with relentless effort, that creates explosives in the pass game, run game, with the ideology that were going to run the football.

I love it. All coaches are on the same page with this. I want to see a team that WANTS to win and I think we may see it.

I think the relentless effort comment is evidence of what Grimes said back when these guys were hired....Loeffler has an offensive lineman psyche. Excellent!

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

Like what I read there. No, I LOVE what I read there.

#Let's Go - Hokies

This kind of stuff gets me fired up. Leffy isn't going to make a splash at VT. He is going to make a fuxin tidal wave.

This is what I imagine will happen during August Training Camp:

"Now, if youre talented, super disciplined and have leadership, you have a chance to win a championship. And thats the thing that were trying to get right now with our older players. Weve got the talent. Were going to be disciplined. If were not, Im going to lose my mind."

GUTS+BIGGER+STRONGER+FASTER+DISCIPLNE+FUNDAMENTALS+ LEADERSHIP=CHAMPIONSHIPS. I like that math.
