We went last year, and I think this is the third year running.
They have a decent brewery line up, plenty of beer time, and bands. They are also lenient on pours. You get a lot for the entry fee, and some breweries bring swag. If you can swing it, very much worth the trip. We are thinking about doing it again this year, but timing may be a conflict.
Thought I'd share and endorse.

I initially thought this was a TKP brewing contest. Maybe for the Liberty game tailgate?
So why can't we do this too? Thoughts?
Yeah sure, why not?
I would recommend not requiring TKP membership to participate and not get direct endorsement. That way Joe doesn't have to worry about violating any VT or other rules. Keep it just simple and self organized.
I would recommend just a simple people's choice format and decide how to parcel it up style wise once we get some basic idea of numbers.
Drop off the beers at a particular parking lot and have people sample it.
There's plenty of time to organize it if we keep it simple and for people to brew.
Any interest?
I'm definitely interested, but I can't make it to the home opener.
That would be the problem. Getting the beers there that are interested in adjudication or the contest.
Anybody near you that will be coming?
Or, beer in bottles or cans could be shipped.
I would be willing to store the beer at the proper temp and bring them to the game, anonymously labeled.
If there is interest, I have time to set that up.
Most often the amount is a 6 pack or we could also substitute a 2L bottle or 3x 750ml bottles.
If you are attending, you could bring a growler or any keg you might have.
I'm sure I can find someone heading down. My parents may be interested as well. They are pretty involved with the home brew scene in Richmond. So they may be able to bring my entry as well.
If I can't find someone to take my samples, I really appreciate the offer! That would be incredibly helpful to hold my beer for me!
Need beer tasters?
That is something I need to carefully consider.
If people will only be required to contribute a 6 pack, then a large number of tasters would not be good.
Might have to pick 10 people or so that would be "judges".
I need to gauge interest first.
Let me know. I will be happy to make 2 -3 different batches and bring my 4 tap jockey box.
That is what I thought too. Good idea!
Awesome. Anyone know the price?
The Liberty game is a long off season away. How about the Spring Game tailgate?
Like always, I have conflicts with several events that day and I do not know if I can make it yet.
There are advantages to the day of Spring Game though, but disadvantages as well.it is periodically cancelled.
Slightly related, a few buddies were over the other night and one went looking for a glass and a coaster. Came back with this. He had no idea why I was so excited.
Unfortunately, I've also just given you all proof that, although I received that sticker like a million years ago, it has yet to be stuck anywhere and was in a position where it may be able to be mistaken for a coaster.
I think, though, that this is a satisfying development.
Egbert count me in, my interest is peaked. Will participate and volunteer to help in any way needed. I'm in Roanoke, and have lots of contacts in Blacksburg.
Pretty good event considering it is only in its third year. I'm pretty sure the price is around $20 or $25, but you can also volunteer and you get free admission plus other perks. Poured for New Belgian the first year and Devil's Backbone last year.
