Hokies' Locker Room Celebration after 77-62 Win Over Miami Was Live

Buzz Williams' message to the Hokies after the game.

[Mark Umansky]

The feels after Virginia Tech's 77-62 win over No. 7 Miami are real. The Hokies locked down the No. 6 seed in the ACC tournament in authoritative fashion. After the game, Buzz Williams delivered a passionate message to his squad amid a hype locker room.

Tech won its fifth game in a row and finished 10-8 in ACC play (18-13 overall). The Hokies secured a winning conference record for the first time since the 2010-11 season (9-7).

Buzz is kind of jacked

If you go to Buzz's website there are videos of him participating in the off season workouts along with the rest of the team. They're pretty awesome.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Be strong when you are weak!
Be brave when you are scared!
Be Hokies when you are victorious!

I was thinking the same thing!

First comment of this great thread is about what Buzz looks like?

Buzz is bae

I love you both.

Danish poop??

I mean I'm sure he's qualified, but he is good looking.

Does Buzz have a permit for those guns?

He wasn't able to bring them to New York, unfortunately.

Yeah, but he'll be fine having them on him in DC. Rest of the ACC better watch out!

Great footage. Normally, wins don't feel all that good to me. They're just a better alternative to losing, which obviously suck. But this win feels great. And this celebratory Buffalo Trace tastes delicious tonight. I'm having several drinks in celebration of the Hokies and I couldn't be happier. What a season. And we're not done yet. Go Buzz and go Hokies

This win is way more than a better alternative than losing. Most of our wins qualify as such as well. We have been steadily improving and tonight is the validation Buzz and the players have earned.

Can't wait for next year already. And we still have a football season between now and then. It's a good time to be a Hokie (as always)

Am i crazy for thinking we have an outside chance at the tournament, we have quality wins over Virginia and Miami and a good pitt team tons of momentum and and if we win 2 or 3 games in the acc tournament i think we should be given a chance atleast

Yes you're crazy. Don't be fooled into getting your hopes up. Baby steps first.

A lot of things would have to happen, including about 25 teams being declared ineligible for cheating.

I'm a believer, Buzz for COY in ACC, no coach has done more. Another great effort and win.

I second that remark. If they give it to anyone else, including Brownell, it would be an absolute travesty!

Sounds like I'm not the only one getting a Buzz on!! Go Hokies.

Frigging right! My picture is on that mural in the locker room. I am shocked it is still there! It's like I am there with them, I bet they high five "me" on the way out of the locker room.

Yes there have been celebratory beverages.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Delaney?

Somebody in the AD got a picture of myself and two guys in my dorm hallway (who would later become my fraternity brothers) with HOKIES painted on our chests at the first ACC conf game (Wake Forest and Chris Paul, I believe) and put us as the background behind Coleman Collins (dunking) and Zabian Dowdell and Jamon Gordon when Seth Greenberg had the locker room redone. There was a maroon leather couch underneath it with a VT and Hokies stitched into it. We didn't know about until a friend of mine noticed it in the background of a Deron Washington interview picture following a game in '07. Seth had a GA let us into he locker room to take some pictures, which I am still proud of today. Anyone know who I could reach out to in the event this might be torn down in the new Merryman updates?

No storming the court?

I personally love that the crowd didn't rush the court. It allowed the players and the coaches to have the spotlight and thank the fans as you saw in the video. It shows the rest of the ACC that we EXPECTED a game and could come out victorious. The coaches and team showed a lot of heart yesterday and it was such a fun game to watch. Stepping on the throat of a top 10 team, one which many people say have the tools to make a run to the final in the tourney. I LOVE this team.

@vtscottyb

Love it too but it's huge to get the student fans involved. Nothing's more memorable for a student than storming the court. I remember our first win over FSU (football) because I got to get on the field.

Think Spring Break is a factor? The fact that we controlled the game definitely was. People are a lot more likely to storm the court after an exciting finish than when you dominate all game.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

Kind of ironic.

I think that the student fans can feel involved just by the atmosphere and Buzz storming around pumping his fists in victory afterwards. You don't want to rush too much or it will start to take away the special feeling associated with it. I think if we beat them in dramatic fashion at the buzzer it may have happened.

@vtscottyb

They weren't top 5, plus you can't chant "overrated" and then storm the court like you won a natty. It's one or the other.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

What are you talking about? It's a huge win. Case closed.

I hate the overrated chant. When you chant overrated it sounds like you are devaluing your own victory or accomplishment rather than just acknowledging that you beat a really good team therefore giving yourself credit.

@vtscottyb

I think you're upset. ;)

It could be worse.

I settled for standing in front of my tv giving the U my one finger salute after we nailed the threes near the end of the game. No one upset here :)

@vtscottyb

Plus, the overrated chant is the silliest chant ever. It says, "We beat you, but you weren't that good anyways". It diminishes the quality of the win in my opinion!

You only should rush the court after beating #1. If you are #1 and beat a non-tournament team at the buzzer you should never rush the court (I'm looking at you Duke).

Rip his freaking head off!

Nope, rush the court when you can. It's a memorable experience, don't set a high standard to it. Every college kid should get a chance to rush a field or court.

It's memorable because it's special and rare. If we rushed after beating Jacksonville State it wouldn't be a memorable experience for very long. I love court storming and am not in the camp trying to ban it, but I do think there's a time and a place for it. Beating Miami soundly was not the time for it.

Obviously not Jax st. That's just stupid.

We're not Clemson. I never want to be Clemson. Rushing the court after every win is one of the dumbest things in college sports. Although, running down a hill and touching a rock is pretty lame too.

Rip his freaking head off!

I stormed the court when we bested #1 Duke in 2011. I ran right for the announcers table, middle-fingers blazing towards my least favorite ACC homer, Jay Bilas. Even the cop standing guard had a laugh, before forcing us away.

I stormed at that game as well. Experience I'll never forget. We must have danced on that floor for 20 mins with less personal space than trying to get a beer at Big Als.

@vtscottyb

Yeah, that will forever be one of my favorite moments at VT.

That is also the closest i've come to being crushed amongst a mob, sharing sweat with everybody nearby. It was great, 10/10 would recommend beating #1 duke on your homecourt.

Man that video gave me goosebumps. What buzz and the team have done this season are incredible

Gave me Buzz bumps.

Appropriate term, I like it.

Buzz has to have a way to display his 'guns' more often at games. Maybe some orange & maroon sleeveless sweater vest that Buzz could strip down to for the second half attire. That suit he wore yesterday looked a little tight, so obviously coach is growing. But if he starts growing a Barry Bonds-sized head, then we might have a problem.

I love watching Allen play. Dude just looks like he's having so much fun. It's nice to see.

The man is always smiling. I love what Buzz has done to this program in the two years he has been here. The players are more excited, Cassell is more packed, and they're winning big time games. I am so excited for the future of Virginia Tech basketball.

Reunited with a bunch of VT grads this weekend - some of whom haven't been in the same room in many moons.

Got the server at the bar to put on the game as we all got caught up. By halftime we had all completely reverted to our college selves, jumping, hugging, chanting. Basically turned the place into our own little Hokie House-away-from-home.

Wonderful to see Buzz mix the Kool-Aid and these kids just guzzle it. Stay forever, BW.

I think the best compliment for Buzz is knowing that with him at the helm, our basketball program is in good hands (and 'guns'). I mean, there will be ups and downs, but the man has a plan that has worked wherever he has been, from UNO to Marquette to our program. It'll definitely be exciting to watch the progress, and it's always an awesome sight when the fan base is excited, and Cassell is jam packed and LOUD for games
