Playoff games will be earlier.

Games start at 3 and 7, instead of 4 and 8. This pushes the Orange Bowl to Dec. 30.

Since NYE is a Saturday this year (and thus pushing the New Year's Day games to 1/2), this still won't give us conclusive data on viewing trends. But, it should keep us from worrying about the game running past midnight. Now we just need a worthy game in that later slot.

Although, I wish they would move the title game to a slightly earlier slot. Ending after midnight on a Monday night is not cool.

I imagine this is just a one time deal, and will likely be revisited in future cycles.

New Years Day is a Sunday [next] year? If the powers that be didn't like the rating they pulled down last year they better hope they don't have to deal with some bad match ups next playoff or the NFL ratings will eat the college ratings for lunch.

Bowl games always move off of New Year's Day if it's a Sunday.

Like when VT played Louisville in the Gator Bowl (2006 for the 2005 season). That should have been on January 1, but was pushed to Monday.

Now that you mention it, the thread-header also clearly states the game will be on 1/2. Maybe I should RTFM

I just realized NYE, NYD and Christmas are all on weekends this year so no days off around Christmas.

Its nice to work for a company that has Observed holidays when actual holidays line up with the weekends :)

here's a little salt in the wound. I'm a teacher! You most likely make more than me but I have two weeks off to do nothing but watch bowl games and eat tons of fatty foods

Respect! Those winter and summer breaks have to be awesome! The month long Christmas/Winter breaks in college were literally my favorite thing ever haha.

This still will not solve the issue of viewership. Why not schedule the playoff games on New Years Day when we are all hungover and dedicated to the tv for the entire day?

The only reason I will not miss the late game on NYE this year is because VT will be playing in it.

NFL has games New Year's Day.

Ahh that's right. Isn't the weekend around NYE typically wild card weekend for the nfl? They should just move it and make way for college foo- wait asking the nfl to move is like asking poop to not stink.

Nope, last regular season weekend.

Part of me is pissed they're making the Orange Bowl odd man out, but I actually think it'll be a net plus compared to being on NYE.

I get that the committee didn't want to keep out the Rose Bowl. I mean, it's the fucking Rose Bowl. But, when it's not a playoff game, it can be played the day before. There's no need to force everyone to change things up over one game.
