Kam Chancellor Gives His Mom a Car (...and a house)

http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcwest/post/_/id/104824/wait-kam-chancellor-has...

Being out in the Seattle area, I heard this on the radio. Am I surprised that a Hokie would be such a great guy even after NFL stardom? Of course not. In fact, it would be difficult for me to name any of our NFL players that I don't admire for their humble and respectful attitudes (Don't bring up the Vick/dog situation - I have a dog and I still think the time he did for that was a joke. Pro athletes shoot, rape, etc. and they get a slap on the wrist, but of course PETA comes down like the wrath of god and makes a fuss).

Anyways, I thought this was worth sharing. I'll also note that people out in Seattle always talk about Kam, and especially the concussion that he gave Vernon Davis.

"I felt like I was getting the house," he said. "It felt great to do it and to do it for her. The way she was surprised and overwhelmed, I felt the same way."

good guy kam

Not only that, Kam does an annual cookout in Norfolk as a part of his KamCares Foundation. Furthermore, if you follow him on twitter/IG, you'll see posts about him doing all kinds of charitable events for kids and things. He's our greatest NFL ambassador right now, both on the field and off. He truly seems like a good, genuine person - I just hope that new contract doesn't take him down a different path.

Yeah JoMo does great things too, pretty sure he won some kind of charity award or something for the skins.

Yea, some DC bar had a day for him to celebrate his great charity work. And then Sean Glennon tweeted this and ruined everything:

Rip his freaking head off!

He really Glnnon'd the shit out of that one, didn't he? Ugh.

HAHAHA I actually like this. For as much as we dump on him, I can't say I would have taken it as well as he has. That might not be saying much, but he's done it better than I would have. Lucky for Grant Noel that Glennon came to Tech.

Haha, a downvote? Sean, are you on TKP?

If Glennon had his own day in TOTS, it would be celebrated by the bartender giving all your drinks to the wrong person.

...standing still for 5 seconds, then falling down...

Is there a TOTS in Raleigh? Oh, wait...that's Mike Glennon...

We put the K in Kwality

I actively root against Mike Glennon because I hate Sean so much.

Rip his freaking head off!

Mike actually had a lot of potential but chose NC State because of how the fans consistently booed Sean. I never liked Glennon very much as our QB, but we didn't have much of a choice until Tyrod came along. I have never, and will never be a fan of people booing their own players. When Sean was doing bad, the absolute last thing he needed was the entire fan base booing him and wishing he would just quit. If fans are so eager for wins, they should be doing their best to encourage and not discourage (the biggest problem with today's fans IMO).

Sean doesn't deserve the hate. Was he the best QB? No. But we didn't have the o-line/system to protect & support a pro style QB.

Agreed - and lets be honest here - it wasn't his fault Marcus was a complete dumbass who got himself kicked out for stomping on that dude's leg. And it wasn't his fault Ike couldn't learn the playbook and had a drinking problem. Glennon shouldn't have been starting, but it's not his fault he was the best we had at the time. I don't get all the hate.

It was a catch

I agree. He might not have been the best QB but SG doesn't deserve the all hate he gets from the fan base.

Sean has always been very friendly when I've seen him out at the bars and seems to be a good ambassador for Hokienation wherever he goes. Once, he even stepped in and prevented my friend from getting his face beat in by some roided up frat star who had drank more than he could handle.

Don't get me wrong. I cringed at each interception and fumble along with his other shortcomings on the field. But don't let that overshadow the fact that he's a pretty nice guy and even had a FEW good moments in the O&M (ACC Championship, GT wrong uniform game, etc).

VT '10 #AllMaroonEverything

I enjoy ragging on his play as much as anyone else. But I truly appreciate the MAN he was post 4/16. He was the face of the school and program, brave in the face of adversity and a positive influence on his fellow students. For that he will always be a True Hokie to me.

Preach, brother.

I'm actually a big Glennon fan.
I love the fact that he was/is a Hokie.
All he did was come out and practice and try to lead and work his tail off and avoid any issues off the field and represent to the best of his ability.
Sure, there were some difficult times on the field, but it wasn't due to effort.
There are some other former players that I'm not a fan of.......but I am a fan of any kid that comes in and works his ass off and stays out of trouble and that's what Sean did.
Frankly I find the vitriol sent in the direction of Glennon to be immature and more of a reflection on those that spew it than on Sean Glennon.
Be critical of of his play, but all of this personally directed crap is really uncalled for. (I actually blame the coaches for putting Sean in some of those situations-LSU anyone?) Sean also had some mighty fine plays as well.....
Sean gave more to VT than I ever did, or likely most of his critics, and for that I applaud him.
(No.....we are not related.......)

I think the general consensus here is that we all like Sean Glennon now that he isn't VT's quarterback.

.... Anybody know if Grant Noel has a twitter?

I think we should lay off on the Glennon hating. It was quite a few years ago and he is a classy player that kept his nose clean. He's still a Hokie lover after all the hate.

Don't understand the hate. SG's stats are actually pretty good. Look them up on Hokiesports.com. He was part of those 10 win season teams. He did have turnovers in some games, more a reflection of the o-line. He was not as moblie as other QBs so couldn't scramble well, which was often.

#Let's Go - Hokies

A lot of turnovers. It was weird because he seemed to be able to feel blind side pressure better than most quarterbacks. But if there was a pass rusher coming from his right he'd have no clue that guy was there.

Rip his freaking head off!

Kansas has an Orange Bowl trophy.

I blame the Kansas game on Stiney. "Oh, they can't stop Brandon Ore? Well lets throw it at Talib (their best defensive player) instead. They'll never see it coming!!"

Now the Peach Bowl loss to UGA - that was on Glennon.

It was a catch

Aye. I was there for both, unfortunately. Both games stand as monuments to the gods of suck. I merely played the Kansas card because Kansas.

I don't think many people really "hate" Glennon. He was/is a classy dude, played the game hard, and was a good ambassador for VT. That being said people seem to be getting sensitive about taking shots at Glennon. Its no different than yelling "BOOOOOOOOOOOOONE", its just something you do as a Tech fan.

I respectfully disagree. The shots directed at Sean Glennon are completely different than fans yelling 'Boooooone.'
Anyone reading some of the junk directed at him should see the disrespect.
It's just my opinion, but being critical of the play or mistakes that a college athlete makes is one issue, but personal attacks are unjustified and frankly an embarrassment upon the spirit of collegiate athletics and the institutions that participate.
Now, if a player disrepects the institution through poor personal choices, and crimes, assualts, etc, then have at it.
Sean Glennon, to my knowledge, has never done such.
I find it interesting that there are plenty of players that may have great accomplishments on the field but failed at life; and seem to avoid the hate. It seems like misplaced priorities......

I don't like the precendent that seems to be shaping that a good kid that tries hard is villified.
But, again, just my opinion......

I can only speak for myself but certain people get attached to certain things. Poking fun at Glennon, in my opinion, is part of his story/mystique. Do I think its fair or did he actually do anything to warrant it? Not really. Hell Glennon could've broken the school passing record and I still think people would poke fun at him the way they do. Why do certain players only get loved and never hated? I have no clue.

I don't like the precendent that seems to be shaping that a good kid that tries hard is villified.

I think its is a one off thing tied to a specific person. Bryan Randall fits that description and I've never heard of him getting vilified, same with Cody Grimm, Corey Moore, Cedric Humes, etc.

I respect your opinion, but I just don't see it as a big malevolent force. That being said I don't really read much beyond TKP and don't really see much hate in anything directed towards SG, I see it mostly as fun.

Give SG a break. The guy got dumped right after the LSU game when we had to burn Tyrod's redshirt the first time. True story haha

There was a lot of hatred being thrown at him from fans at games. I hated being around that. Never have I seen one player get singled out so badly, and I've never been sure why. He had his moments where you just shook your head, but there were so many others that were the opposite. We had a group of guys near our seats one year that constantly heckled Glennon, and it was unbelievable. We could usually shut them up by suggesting that if they could do better, they should try to walk on the team and replace him. Otherwise, "he's in Orange & Maroon - we don't heckle our own, so shut it."

"Exit light..."

I agree that SG doesn't deserve the heckling people continue to give him. He had the misfortune of being the guy competing with Tyrod, and since the backup QB is always the most popular player on the team (and that player happened to be a VT-Hall-of-Fame-level player), SG gets the short end of the stick.

While I don't trash him, I do enjoy the occasional joke about throwing a season-starting pick to ECU two years in a row, and I also enjoy the verb 'Glennoned' in reference to the second half of the ChikFilA Bowl against UGA.

Having said that, yeah, "History will look upon him more favorably," than we ever did when he was our QB. Underappreciated.

Jim Druckenmiller... that is all.

BACK to Kam. The dude is pure class, will knock you out if you don't see him coming as you cross the middle of the field... and took WAY too much flack picking up the slack because of some poor support in the secondary that he couldn't control during his tenure on defense.
