NFL adopts rule to outright ban all forms of the Chop Block

NFL bans all chop blocks

Ultimately, the NFL decided that with its increased emphasis on player safety, the league simply couldn't justify allowing a move that so many players say can lead to serious knee injuries. And so the 2016 season will mark the first year in the history of the NFL that all chop blocks are illegal, all the time.

Alum07 has reached out to Coach Paul Johnson for comment, but none of the calls have been returned.

Important to note that, so far as I can tell, cut blocking remains legal.

Only a matter of time.

Can't imagine a good way to tell recruits you're going to spend a lot of their time in college teaching them specifically how to do something that won't get them anywhere in the NFL.

I wonder if this will hurt the bees' OL recruiting, considering nothing they learn at the college level can be used in the pros

That's already the case.

This makes me think about 2009 and now I haz sads.

Start the countdown to the end of Chop Block o'clock.

Before this ban, chop blocks in the NFL were legal in certain situations such as run plays. Now chop blocks are illegal, period. Per the NCAA rulebook, to my knowledge, chop blocks have always been illegal regardless of the type of play. At Illinois Hokie noted, cut blocking is still a legal block, which is what the bees claim they do.

This is correct. Still, the fact that it took this long to outlaw something that is so ridiculously dangerous is just insane.
