I think with a lot of these early announcements, I dont know if Im expecting many VT announcements. Fuente has only been here for what? 4 - 5 months, and its not like Richt at Miami who had a track record at a Power-5. I imagine most people are expecting this to be a Duke announcement. I think this spring will be crucial, and honestly next year, what the offense looks like, will impact where some of these kids ultimately end up.
I think if we come in with a flashy offense and a stout defense, and the buzz from this early spring keeps rising into the fall, I could see that translating on the recruiting front. Right now though, I wouldnt get too discouraged by announcements that dont go VT's way.

I can (mostly) deal with the recruiting letdowns (hell, I've been used to it for awhile now), what I won't be able to deal with is if we drop it against them this upcoming season.

He was my year and I was on the team with him. Was trying to get Patrick Estes the year before to come to the good guys also. Dosh ended up playing FB/LB/TE for ECU.

I think the guys who go to Duke, do so for the education/name. I still don't consider them a football school. At their best years and some of VTs worst, these are still double overtime last possession type games. There really aren't any Duke graduates of any note in the NFL. So it's just different really I don't consider this a recruiting failure I think the "school" part must be the determinant more than the football part. He could go anywhere to play football

I agree with your post. I don't think Duke guys go to Duke just for the football. Now, if we're talking basketball, maybe different equation, but Duke is Duke, and academically, we cannot argue that as a negative. Me, I don't like Duke basketball, but Duke as an institution, well, I respect them. As for Duke football, soon, we'll own them again, just like loluva.

Its insane to me to see Duke pulling 4* defensive players out of VA over us. Just another reminder of where recruiting and the program have to come back from.

Benedictine has long had a reputation for producing good players that end up at Ivy or "public Ivy" type schools. That's part of the whole reason lots of athletes end up at Benedictine in the first place, as it's a great private school with lots of in-roads to elite higher learning institutions.

I mean he has almost a full year till he signs. I'm never convinced of guys that commit this early. I know mook was a different breed but we also had a 4* last year around this time I believe that committed to us and then switched later to clemson I think.
Anyhow, it will be different this year for us and hopefully better. And duke is still duke. The years they have beat us (2) we have been at some of our worst in the past decade and a half and both those games came down to the wire and were still winnable. I mean they aren't the exact pushover they once were but once we get back to who we normally are we should have no business losing to them.
Edit: and I agree with the above post about people going to Duke more for the academics than the football. I mean Crowder and Cash are NFL guys (but Cash started out at OSU as well) but other than them not a big name for producing NFL talent. You don't go to Duke because your dream is to go to the NFL. You go to Duke to have your diploma say Duke on it.

Hendon Hooker announcing tomorrow as well.

Looks like Duke. Go figure.
I hate it when NC schools keep getting Va players. We need to stop this trend!
Right now Duke has a direct line into Benedictine. It's going to be a hard place to recruit from until Fuente gets going ..
I blame Patrick Dosh.
He was my year and I was on the team with him. Was trying to get Patrick Estes the year before to come to the good guys also. Dosh ended up playing FB/LB/TE for ECU.
wow, so ECU did the TE = QB thing way before us? Innovative!
This is the type of guy we need to start getting.

Jamison Crowder is about to be huge for the skins....
When was the last time anyone was "huge" for the Skins?
Haynesworth.
Oh you meant talent wise
Never forget the greatness...
a $100 million dollar nap.
He knew he had no chance at getting to Vick anyway.
Doug Williams
*cries*
How bout last year...when we won the division? You're not a sore Cowboys fan are you?
Didn't 7-9 or 8-8 win the division? Not exactly great and no not a Cowboys fan
9-7 big guy. Still better than the seahawks 7-9 making the playoffs
All with a QB that still has never beaten a team with a winning record and that the Skins are going to have to PAY.....
Winning the NFC East last year was like being named King Shit of Turd Town
Fly Eagles Fly
And making the playoffs is still making the playoffs....just sayin....

100% CB to Duke. CB knows all.

(yeah, it's going to be Duke tho)
No surprise put he picked Duke.

Benedictine kids are going to be hard to pull for a variety of reasons it's not a reflection of VT or its coaches past or present.
Pretty much.

I can't tell you the last Benedictine kid to go to LOLUVA for football.
Really? Duke! I mean sure they have been better than average the last few years but it's still Duke.

Ellis just de-committed from Duke!!!
I've heard one 3rd hand #weaksauce he is interested in Mich
Maybe he is looking at Wilson's scholarship spot opening up.
Hey, if you're still interested, welcome home.....

I believe we have a decent chance at Brooks, other major concern would be Mich.
he can have his pick of any of the "delightful" choices they offer

Sure, he could go to Michigan and have that.... Or he could become a Hokie and have this:

But if he drinks as much as that Michigan chick they will all look like this.
