As an ASU Alum, I approve this message. Appalachian State has one of the prettiest campuses & Boone is a lot like Blacksburg.

I went to Appalachian State as well. I decided to stay in state to save money and the reason why I choose ASU is because it reminded me of a smaller Blacksburg (Both of my parents are VT Alums and even lived in Blaksburg for a little bit)
I literally went to App for the same reasons! Awesome to hear I wasn't the only one!
I came close to going to App...decided on Radford. Wouldn't trade my Raddy experience for anything but I know I would've said the same thing had I gone to App.
My sister went to ASU and it was definitely a second Blacksburg for me. She still gets hell though for not following big bros footsteps. I mean c'mon campus is one big GoT castle. House Hokie They'll get after ya.

Georgia Southern Southern grad student confirming. The ONLY match up where I could pick App state without hesitation. I consider Charlottesville my hometown and it's got a lot going for it but the giant Cancer that is UVA only continues to further invade an otherwise promising plave.

I want to take some time to analyze our quarter of the bracket... Looks like we're a 4 seed, the selection committee clearly still holds some ill will against us from the Greenberg era - I'd argue that we should be a 2 seed at worst. The major sleeper in our bracket is Annapolis/Naval Academy - they're a 6 seed with potential to reach the final four.
Looking elsewhere in the bracket, the Mid South and South Atlantic are obviously the most difficult regions. It's also worth calling out the lack of Pac-12 teams - It's a travesty that Stanford, Eugene, Tempe and Tuscan were all on the wrong side of the bubble, but somehow Columbia, SC got in.
This is a clear case of SEC bias. You're sure to hear PAC-12 fans complain about this one all the way to next season.

That being said, I don't consider all of these towns part of the south
Didn't notice the title, but I agree, not all of these towns are 'Southern'. That being said, geographically, Palo Alto, Tempe and Tuscan are all further south than Annapolis.
I was born on the Naval Academy, but other than a few times in my youth, haven't really been back up there. I have friends that like the town, but have proclaimed it packed and crowded. I have considered dropping in sometime to just check it out, but don't know a darned thing about the town. Anybody here know it well enough to recommend spending some time there, or not?
My brother has lived there for the better part of 25 years. He loves it. I like it a lot myself. Most of my time spent there is in the historical part or on the water though. There are good restaurants and neat shops. People/boat watching at Ego Alley is great in the summer time.

Grew up a town over from Annapolis. It's a fun place. Underrated drinking town, lots of cool stuff to do on the water. Definitely recommend.
To be fair to the rest of the PAC-12, they couldn't let the California schools participate due to the fact that it is Garden and Gun Magazine and there are more than 10 shots to pick. Because of that, it is considered a high capacity magazine poll, and high cap mags are illegal in Cali.

Guys, after selecting Blacksburg and clicking on vote, there is a button that says return to poll just under the tweet button. It reloads the voting box and you can keep voting. I single handedly just got it to 30 percent for us in two minutes. We can do this!
Well, after five minutes of doing so, a message now appears telling me that I have voted too many times and that I will be unblocked after a "cooling off" period. But it doesn't tell me how long that is. They have underestimated my affinity for voting in stupid online polls!
I recommend voting early and often.

Interesting, I just went back to the link after a solid 20 minutes of cooling off and just voted another 25 times for Blacksburg. I wish I could vote like this in a real election and my vote mattered as it does here, seeing the real time results of my votes increasing our percentage points is gratifying.

If I open the link in an incognito window, it lets me vote once, but reoloading doesn't clear it. But, if I open it in an incognito window again, it lets me vote again. So I'm guessing one could do some finagling with cookie settings and have a bot auto-vote with no problems.

no, that's not what I meant. I have that html file loaded up on google docs. When I open the html file in chrome, it shows the survey just for blacksburg vs chapel hill. But when I try to link to it, google docs just pulls up the code instead of opening it like an html file. If I had my ftp program here, I'd throw it up on my domain and it would be fine, but I don't have access to that right now. I'm asking someone else to put that html file on their domain so we can link to it and make it easier to vote (without having to scroll down and load everything on the page).

Okay, what browser and method are you using? Everything I'm trying now tells me my vote has already been recorded after one vote.
Chrome and just went straight to website and went back and forth on vote area of website until % stayed constant, then hit refresh button and started again. Did this several times until cooling off message came up. Nothing real fancy.

Can confirm, worked for me. It looks like every 2-3 votes adds 0.01% to the total (which also must depend on how many people are voting). Slow going, but it can be done if enough people get bored. I'm in the cooling off period now, got us up about 0.11%.

Just hit back to poll and vote again. Someone posted higher up in the thread that it actually counts all of your votes regardless of that message. Eventually it will hit you with a popup that won't allow you to vote any longer until your cooldown period is over.
Hit my cooldown period. Hopefully everybody here is doing the same!
Edit: Hit my second cooling period. It took about an hour and a half to get back to voting for me at least.

Kind if makes me think they are changing the rules as they play. LOL My Grandson does that to me when we play a game so HE can WIN! He's a competitive little dude! Not sure where he gets that either because I usually let him win once in awhile.
That tweet was a two day old screen shot (3/29). They don't have the results either, just drumming up their fan support.
Yeah you are right! If I'd looked at it, I'd saw the 3/29 date. Thanks for clearing that up as I was wondering how they could see it. Conspiracy theory! LOL

Basically, I went into the code for the webpage and inspected the poll item. And yes, they are using Poll Daddy to host the contest.

Yeah, I found it when I was searching for a hidden way to find the results or even manipulate the poll in some way. Obviously those efforts failed, but I did find the base webpage for the poll.
Crazy poll. After midnight, I was able to keep hitting Return to Poll and VOTE even tho it said it was closed. So I used the theory not to trust their message and kept voting until they locked me out. So I'm not sure they counted but I just took the chance. Figured I'd go until I got tired, but then I got the cooling off period message around 12:30. I hope my 30 minutes were productive and my votes were counted.!
We'll see if HokieNation rose to the occasion to make it to the finals!
We'll have to up our game big time to beat Oxford.
If you watched 2 rounds back, Clemson was down 20+points with just a couple days left. I'm guessing they did something as the next round everyone had to enter the capta code..

They still haven't updated, but looking back at the bracket it's amazing to me how many SEC schools are represented. They have an overwhelming majority. It's no wonder they got 3 teams in the final 4. Interestingly, they might have had 4 teams in the final four if they had bothered putting an SEC team in Mid Atlantic region. Almost half of the towns in the whole bracket are from the SEC. That is just astonishing. I know there are way more cool college towns outside of the SEC than in it.
Well, I mean, best southern college town is going to be slanted in favor of the SEC. Their only limitation is the population limit, whereas some ACC schools are geographically excluded.

It may be looking for an "oh" instead of a "zero". Even though it is clearly a zero. Computers are dumb.
I don't fully understand the algorithms behind those captchas. At first, I thought everything had to be typed verbatim, but that's not always the case.
Just reset the capcha, and you will get a new photo..Had to do it on a few occassions

For the above post, they are using a simple poll app that doesn't control number of times. They put out that msg to fake us out. Once we caught on, we saw it adding the votes and the gap narrowed real quick. Then they took the poll numbers display off as another deterrent, which is stupid as that was part of the fun, knowing the score! .
A lot of dedicated Hokies voted like crazy and the rest is history. We can't let up now. Just a couple more days left! Be Hokie Strong!!!!

Any Twitter experts here? I got more Intel that some other SEC fans, esp. Ugga is voting some for their conference buddies as they evidently don't want to even lose a meaningless poll to an ACC town! I'm not on Twitter as I can't express myself with limited characters. LOL
But tweet to our "Friendly" foes in conference and outside the ACC like Ohio State maybe. They had a great time in Blacksburg and they have a zillion fans! Any and all extra help may put us over the top! Oxford by looking at their posts unfortunately know what we know and are asking everyone to do the same!
Has the University sites tweeted out anything to vote? I sent messages to the Facebook groups that have huge numbers but to no avail! A few groups I'm a member in, I've got them voting like Va Tech Fighting Gobblers, Hokie Pride n The Real HokieNation. Only small private groups, but they add up, esp if you have crazies like me voting constantly! Yep, not much of a life! LOL

Anyone think the Cooling off message has more to do with speed of votes. I was visiting my family got bored n voted on my phone. Slow going but went well over 100 and never got the message! But on my laptop where I can go much faster, I hit it around 40ish? Wasn't really counting, just trying to go fast as possible and I got the message. Just a theory.

I noticed something weird...when I got the "cool it" message, I tried to vote on my iphone and rec'd the same message. How can a different device be linked to the one I was voting on?
If you're on the same router, it can be detecting the IP address. If you're using a browser like Chrome that syncs across devices, that contains the same cookies and browser data.
This seems to be the case. Last night, I voted at a normal pace (once every few seconds) and I got locked out around 40 or 50. Today, I've been voting steadily for the better part of the last half hour, casting a vote once every 10 seconds or so. No lock out yet.

Down 29 to 71 in the second round is when I cast my first vote. I never thought that the taste of comeback victory against UNCheat could be topped after I voted approximately 56000 times. But here we are, the champions of a completely ridiculous online polling tournament, that was put on by a magazine I've never heard of. I'd like to thank the TKP community for all the hard work, and most importantly, thanks to Garden and Gun Magazine for always allowing us to out smart and out hustle their polling system! Cheers everyone, this Monday shall never be forgotten.
As meaningless as this poll is, I didn't see anyway we would beat Oxford. Their alumni base was all over this. I'm impressed.
To put this in perspective, we beat three #1 seeds (Chapel Hill, Athens, Oxford), a #2 seed (Cville) and a #4 seed (MoTown).

A national championship in a regional competition that most people didn't know existed? This is basically a lacrosse title.
Between Buzz Williams and Justin Fuente, we have two effort style coaches, and HokieNation has proved itself willing to back them up with just as much effort, and a little more insanity than our opponents. We gave more effort, and went up against them with a chip on our shoulder. Winning this was such a Hokie thing to do, and we did it with Hokie effort. From Lane Stadium vs Miami (pick your Thursday, and check the richter scale), to #GameDay4Frank, to bringing Lane into Cassell and shouting Princeton into paralysis in the NIT, to out voting SEC schools in a poll for best southern college town. HokieNation is a force to be reckoned with. So proud to be a part of this community. So proud to be a Hokie.

Who was as crazy as me n voted from 10:30 to 12:30 after getting pissed off at the Walking Dead Finale? I couldn't sleep so I started typing away. I got the msg Poll was closed but Return to Poll still showed so I hit it and kept voting til 12:30 unsure if their PollDaddy Poll was counting or not! LOL I said I'd go until they kicked me off and about 12:35, the Return To Poll was gone. I have a feeling it was just like the msg Already Counted Your Vote for Today! Maybe not. But if not, I wasted 30 minutes on top of the 90 minutes of The Walking Dead!
