It's a really long flight.
Nah, the flight is just to wherever big brother is.
SMH.
All that potential and talent, squandered by having a bad, thuggish attitude and arrogant demeanor.
Forget O'Cainspring; the biggest pariah in the last ten-years of Hokie Football is Marcus Vick.
Blame Glennon
No, blame Marcus FOR Glennon. If he and Ike had had a brain between them, Glennon never would have seen the field.
his happy feet,
inability to handle the blitz and general pocket awareness ='d college qb.
he had very little nfl potential or talent.
Are you talking about Marcus? I thought he had the potential to have a better season than Michael had here if he hadn't been kicked off the team. He was a better pure passer than Mike was, definitely not as good of a runner but still a damn good one. He has no one to blame but himself for this mess he's in though. Not gonna see me shedding any tears.
a better passer
better touch, but his decision making was inconsistent and most importantly in the line of fire with guys coming at him ... he wasn't good.
he chewed up teams with a poor pass rush, but the nc state, florida st and miami teams ate his lunch. yes, i know they got most qb's, but most qb's don't play in the nfl.
he would have never have made it in the nfl. no poise in the pocket, substandard college passing attack and work ethic made it a non starter.
He had the potential to be a pro - his thug attitude included an entitled mentality, and he did not work to develop his game or become a better person. Sad, but hard to feel bad for someone when their bad decisions have bad consequences. He blew more opportunities than most people get.
No arguments with the character judgement, but interestingly enough, I was told by the long snapper (don't remember who he was or why I was talking to him at the time) that he actually had a great on-field work ethic. First to practice, last to leave, etc.
Real shame he couldn't be a good person.
I don't know that he's a bad person, but he's got some impulse-control issues.
This latest issue sounds a bit like a cop was gunning for him. I mean, what started it? He wasn't doing anything, so it's like the cop either recognized him or ran his background for no reason. I'm guessing it caught him by surprise and he panicked.
The officer was dispatched on a call there.
Oh, I didn't see that in the report I read. Was there a reason?
No reason given at this time.
Articles I read said that the police were alerted that he was wanted and in the area.
Given the sum of the asshattery throughout his life, I think we can can conclude that he is in fact a bad person. We could get philosophical with it, but I'm relatively certain we'd reach that conclusion.
And it stated that he had warrants out on him, so it's rather difficult to accept that the cop just had it out for him. Dude's essentially a career criminal, which is sad given his potential.
If he had just shown up to court 3 years ago, all of this would have been avoided....
If his dad had invested a buck on protection, all of this would have been avoided.
Shesh that's a little harsh
via GIPHY
No, it's a LOT harsh.
Vick never lived up to his promise, and has always been plagued with petty criminal offenses and bad decisions. But this happened:
"The highlight of Vick's season came during a 31–7 upset win over #2 Miami. Despite completing only one pass, Vick's exceptional running ability and the outstanding play of Tech's defense contributed to one of the biggest wins in Tech's history."
and THIS happened:
"Beamer initially announced that Vick would enter the 2005 season as the team's third-string quarterback, but he quickly won the starting role after impressive spring practices and scrimmages. 2005 was Vick's most successful season, which saw the Hokies contending for a national championship and culminating in an 11–2 record, an ACC Coastal Division title, an appearance in the inaugural ACC Championship Game, and a win in the 2006 Gator Bowl."
So even if we abhor some of his behavior, I think he warrants a bit better treatment than the comment above. He did contribute something to Virginia Tech sports. One of those games in that unbroken streak of bowl games belongs to Marcus Vick and his team.
I'm very glad that we're done with arguing over whether Beamer needs to retire, and back to having discussions about Marcus' place in Hokie History.
I'm far more in this camp than the vitriol-laden Marcus hate camp.
I don't buy it. At all. This is essentially the Cowboys' argument in defense of Greg Hardy. Your on-field accomplishments don't mean jack if you're a shitty human being.
All I'm saying is that if you want to judge someone as a human being, you do have to consider their contributions, not just their mistakes.
yeah, sure, but I think everything should be weighted. For instance, somebody who is supremely talented at delivering pizzas in less than 15 minutes (contribution) but also kills people on weekends (mistake) isn't going to be viewed in a neutral light given that they have the same number of contributions as mistakes. I think most people would agree that delivering pizzas in a timely manner carries far less weight than murder.
You can't just cancel out transgressions with so-called contributions. In the grand scheme of things, anything that a football player (or any athlete, really) does on the playing surface pales in comparison to any laws they break. I honestly don't give a crap how talented an athlete somebody is; if they continually fail to obey laws they are not a person I can support in any way.
I didn't ever say his contributions "cancelled out" his transgressions.
I just don't agree with the "he should have never been born" comments. I think the vitriol is too damned high for any allegations I've seen.
He's not a serious criminal, as far as I know. He has had some low-level, thuggish-type run-ins with the law. They cost him his Virginia Tech career, and are going to continue to cost him. The courts will sort that out, but ultimately he does need to straighten out his attitude and his life. He's a disappointment, but that's about it.
You misquote me. I didn't say he shouldn't have been born, I said that had he not been, this could all have been avoided. Which is 100% inarguable. No Marcus = no Marcus issues.
I say it isn't harsh enough.
Didn't it all start with those Blacksburg Middle School girls?
Fun fact/claim to fame: I lived in that apartment in Chasewood where that all went down. Marcus used to get a TON of shoe catalogs.
This is the kind of inside info you can't get anywhere else
Why was Marcus bringing middle school girls to your apartment?
He played here?
Shit! I keep trying to forget that he was once on the team...
My thoughts....
I don't blame Marcus Vick for wanting to play at Tech. Under Beamer, there have been more siblings and father-son who donned the Hokies' uniform.
I think the blame partly go to the unrealistic expectation of the fan base simply because he was a Vick. As someone already mentioned, Marcus was a more pocket passer than Michael whose scrambling ability was phenomenal.
Unfortunately, his attitude, entitlement mentality, and his immaturity hurt his progress at Tech. Let's not forget his stupidity in getting involved with a teenager and of course, flipping off WVu fans for calling him a child molester.
Yes, it was a terrible waste of talent and Beamer was finally strong-armed into kicking Marcus off the team. It is a shame really. I liked Marcus and thought he had the potential to carry the offense, but like I said, he was more immature than he let on.
The fact that he thinks he can get out of jail or paying creditors based on his last name tells me he is not going to learn until somebody stop bailing him out and let him suffer. He's going to have to hit rock bottom and then decide what he wants do...get help to become a better human being or stay there on the bottom and cry himself to the grave. His choice.
Not the fans fault
He was a 5 star recruit. Fans have very high hopes for most recruits that their team lands, especially for highly touted ones. He should've known not to get involved in the things he did. He had a target on his back because of his last name.
I said partly. There were some unrealistic expectation from the fan base that Marcus Vick would lead the Hokies to the promised land. His playing style was vastly different from Michael, and some of the fans wanted Marcus to be like his brother. The game commentators often pick that up.
I wanted to get this on an old thread before someone made it its own topic...
Former VA Tech QB Marcus Vick faces assault charge
#LeSigh
Thanks for sharing but why is "Virginia Tech" even part of this article at all? The man is 32 and has nothing to do with VT anymore.
If they're want click bait headline, the name "Vick" is all you need.
Its in the article because that's how people remember him... as the uberhyped starting QB of a Top 5 VT squad
Yep, for better or worse, that's how people are going to associate Marcus in the media. Just the other day, Troy Smith was arrested for DUI, and the headlines read "Former Ohio State QB and Heisman winner." Unfortunate, but that's how the media will label it.
Besides, what other accomplishments or titles does he have? I mean, seriously, he's really only known for two things...being a VT QB and run ins with the law.
Yea and he's only known for his run ins with the law because he was a VT QB.
I was about to create a thread. It's ALWAYS worth a few shits and gigs, as well as clever gifs. Worst ever waste of talent in the history of Hokiedom. Ever.
I've wanted to post this on the news sites, but I really don't like dipping into the pit of darkness known as random internet comments...
But how is Marcus Vick being an asshat news? It's status quo.
This is terrible news... who's going tweet on his behalf if he's jailed? Who else could offer wisdom such as:
And that's just the SFW tweets...
So what you are saying is that exotic hoes need to eat mor chicken. That's fine
Appropriate, leg.
That will teach us to trust in midi-chlorian counts.
It kills me saying it, cuz I'll pull any day for the elder Vick, but I am embarrassed to have ever cheered for this guy as a hokie
Exactly. I can't think of any time I was more embarrassed as a Hokie fan than his leg stomping incident in the Louisville game. It still irritates me when I see that video. Good riddance.
What a dumbass.
Let me "Watsonize" that for you:

Hope Mike let's him rot in the court system rather than pulling strings here and there. He needs to be woken up.
My wife got a #5 jersey and after he f'd up wanted to get rid of it. Glad someone came back and redeemed the number.
In a big way!......
That Cam Phillips, he'll get after ya.
It's an Al Clark jersey, I swear!
I'll admit to having purchased a #5 jersey on deep, deep discount after his last season, and hiding it in my closet for a year or two. But man, those were great unis...
It's really sad the way the Mike has turned his life around compared to how Marcus continually tries to throw it away. I hope that one day he gets the help he needs and turns it around, but sadly I have my doubts.
Man, reading the original comments in this thread shows just how far we come as far as what we have to complain about this year.
