damn. I had hope for Riley Beiro. Thought he was a great blocking FB.

Hyping up Hokie Nation one video at a time.

This was the phantom holding call

And resulted in one of my favorite quotes from Shane Beamer. Something to the effect of, "I don't know how to coach him about that. What am I gonna say? Don't dominate a guy like that again?"

That's too bad, Biero was diesel.

Never fun to see people leave the program. Wish them both the best of luck in wherever life takes them

With Abbot leaving what is everyone's opinion of Branthover redshirting this season?

I think Branthover is our best option for Kickoffs and he's 2nd on the depth chart at punter on hokiesports. However if the coaches are set on having Journell handle kickoffs again I don't see any reason to use a year of his Eligibility if the starters stay healthy. Redshirting him this season would give us an experienced option for kickoffs for the next two years as well as an option for placekicker. Abbot was 2nd at placekicker with no 3rd string listed and I think I remember reading that Branthover is planning to focus on field goals and kickoffs.

Biero loss is not insignificant.

Not at all. Also not insignificant is the fact that I now have no idea who will rep my #32 jersey. But still, I'm very, very excited to see what a guy like Wright can do at FB.

I am too. Probably got a year or 2 before we will see him get significant reps.

Tweedy can run like a dadgum antelope or whatever. I like to use scalded dog. Do antelopes lumber? Cheetah, OK. He runs like a cheetah. He's fast. - Bud Foster

Idk about that, he was bumped up to second string in the Spring and don't forget he did prep a year a FUMA

@HaydenDubya

OK. True enough and that prep school path seems to have worked for J. McLaughlin. I also see a lot of DJ working out of the position as well.

Your #32 jersey? Check that cowboy...MY #32! Just kidding...it's funny how we all associate "our" previous numbers with current players. #32 is such a great RB digit...I choose that as a junior in HS, but to do it again, I'd probably go with whatever single figure was available. My favorite? #3! Which begs an interesting point...what jersey will Ekenam take once uniforms are established? He and JC can't both have #4...think they'll have a dance off to see who wins? My money's at half pint!

If it ain't orange, it better be maroon...and if it ain't maroon, it better be soon!

Dance-off would be hilarious, but both can keep #4. NCAA rules allow for players to have the same number as long as they are never on the field together.

"Exit light..."

If you go by what's in the media guide for the depth chart (latest official depth chart) Fuller Hoepner is the next in line at fullback. He has great size at 6-2 249 and was a HS QB that's been a walk-on at VT since 2010 practicing at TE until switch to FB this spring. Funny guy on twitter (@fhoepner).

Were there any reasons given for either? Best of luck to them both.

Kicker guy transferring because Journell, et al, are already entrenched in kicking duties. Riley is leaving football for medical reasons, I'm guessing due to his recent shoulder surgery, if I remember correctly.

Yup, shoulder surgeries. Anyone's guess why Abbott is transferring.

Abbot said it had nothing to do with Journell, who graduates this year anyway. Said he is transferring somewhere close to home, not sure if that means he has some family issues or something.

Ah, shoulder for Riley. We do bring in a lot of kickers, there was bound to be attrition there at some point.
