One of the Hokie boards that Ty Outlaw will play this fall? Can't access it because not a subscriber but most of the time that news is posted on the TKP before anywhere else. If my post is inappropriate please delete and take some legs and please accept my apologies.

Hot damn, this Friday just keeps getting better and better!
i saw that, too, and the paywall prevented me from learning about what was attributed to Buzz about Outlaw's situation.
So somebody put up the bennies and get an answer for us, please! Inquiring minds want to know.
Edit: Sorry, I didn't quite understand how that stuff works. I figured if you paid for it, the information then became yours to comment on or paraphrase, if not to share word for word. Please excuse my ignorance.
For me?
I don't want to get in any trouble here but it was discussed on TSL. He has progressed and believed he will be given an ok in summer. Still not a given yet.
that would be big for the basketball team, but it would be way bigger for Outlaw. that's scary stuff. hope he continues to heal
As much as I want to see Outlaw suited up, they better be certain, health is more important than Hokie (or any other schools) hoops.
I really don't think Buzz Williams would say something like that if he weren't pretty sure. No offense, just saying.
I agree, I was talking more from thinking about the medical staff, I hope that if Outlaw suits up, he is no question healthy enough to do so. Again, if the doc says he is a go, I trust it and welcome it!
What was Ty Outlaw medical condition anyway? It sounds like it was serious.
I plead the 5th
Please see below. It is inappropriate for anyone to be posting any sort of medical information, sourced or not, about anyone else unless the school or the player make the statement.
Just a question. Would this hold true if a reputable news source (ESPN, RT, RTD, WaPo, etc) ran a story that the University had not yet commented on?
This is a broader question than this particular circumstance. I'm asking because if a reputable news source (as opposed to a paid access gossip forum) reported something about a player's private life, I'd feel comfortable commenting on it here. If that's unacceptable, I want to know now before it happens.
TKP is one of the few communities I'd rather ask permission than forgiveness.
Tough call. I'd find it hard to believe that any such outlet would post a story without confirmation from the school and therefore tacit approval, in which case we're not having a debate at all. I feel like a story posted on such a large forum will be subject matter here, because I suspect it will force the school or the player to make a statement in short order and then everything is out in the open. Then there's a whole other debate about who at VT would have leaked such sensitive information, and why.
Random comments from members of the community is what I'm trying to stop, as I think that is wholly inappropriate because the (pseudo)anonymity provided by a screen name often empowers people to share things that are not necessarily true (in whole or in part). I seriously doubt that any of us has permission from any individual to share personal medical information. This came up when Frank was ill, as well, and we shut that down quickly. There's just something inherently sketchy about a willingness to post somebody else's medical information that I seriously dislike. It's one thing to say "I have a class with player X and he's walking around in a boot because of a sprained ankle but he says he'll be good in a week." It becomes common knowledge. But if people start gossiping about the non-obvious stuff, inherent medical conditions, illness, etc. it crosses a line.
Gotcha, and agreed. It was a pretty tangential question I was asking, but the clearer the line is, the easier it is to abide by it (and enforce it).
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that in America, you cannot disclose personal medical information point blank period without the consent of the individual affected. This does not include necessary information to other medical professionals/billing/etc.
Correct, which is why this hypothetical is very unlikely, but it's a good question. HIPAA is pretty strict, so much so that (for example) my email address in our School of Pharmacy cannot be automatically redirected to any other email client due to the potential for clinical information to be sent to it. Never mind the fact that I'm not involved in any research related to patients, it's just a blanket policy. No one wants to get on the bad side of HIPAA.
Yeah HIPPA is really, really strict. Personal example, when my grandmother got real sick and came down with dementia before passing away about 15 years or so ago, my parents had to fight tooth and nail to get any information about how everything was going for her, despite her dementia causing her to not be able to actually comprehend anything the doctors were telling her. Despite them being listed as legal guardians at that point. She wasn't a child, she was conscious and didn't tell (and couldn't understand to tell them) the doctors to share info with my parents, who at that point should have been making the medial decision for her. And here's the thing, if the docs has shared anything with my parents, even with the obvious scenario at hand, they would have been fined out of existence and lost their medical licenses for violating HIPPA.
So yeah... when it comes to medical information, when in doubt, keep your mouth shut.
Roger. It will be removed
pro tip: do not answer this question
I did not speculate, list his personal health or information. I merely saw it posted by Buzz Williams that he expected Outlaw to play this fall. I am not a paying member of TSL but the link to the coaches information was listed on the free board but could only be accessed with a TSL membership. I don't think Will or Chris would have a link to that information unless it was legit or they would not have allowed it to be listed with no offense.
My comment was not to you, it was directed towards one that has now been deleted. Whether or not Ty will be able to play is a perfectly acceptable topic. Rumor-mongering and/or privacy violations are not. We can discuss the former without involving the latter.
apologies
you might consider deleting the Q to avoid it being answered again
You might consider not responding next time. It's really as simple as that.
I'll say this again, TKP isn't the place to ask someone to share information behind a paywall from another website.
Don't apologize in advance, just don't do it.
TKP is trying to monetize its content via The Key Players Club, so we respect other folks doing the same, even if their approach is more heavy-handed (pay to play, versus our NPR model).
Policy question for you. I know posting info from behind a pay wall is bad juju, but what about passing along info you see that originated behind a pay wall but was already breached elsewhere. Meaning you can't give a specific link to the story, as it is behind the pay wall but the topic is already out in the open.
For example, this story, I KNOW the rumor originated in the TSL subscriber forums, but was being openly discussed on their public basketball boards. Still best to leave it alone?
I'd like to know the policy as well. My understanding is that you can say whatever you want. If you have information that you want to share, share it. It's just not right to post links to stuff behind a paywall. The way I see it, if you paid for the information you can do whatever you want with that information. If someone asks for your source, you'll just have to tell them to trust you.
In response to a Q, I posted info in that should not have been shared. It was not from behind a paywall, nor was it inaccurate. But it was inappropriate and in hindsight, I should have known better.
This is a great site in large part because the mods do an outstanding job. My confusion is why leave a question that can't be answered without violating TOS on the board?
I'll reply here to the comments posted above; this reflects the way I view and enforce the Community Guidelines, though of course Joe can overrule me here. But in our conversations about this, I'm pretty confident we agree.
Public is public. If something's gotten out and is being openly discussed, I say fair game. If those boards are public and it's going on, it's not our job to police that content. In this case, you can provide a link to those public boards. Good enough source for me, especially since it's all really rumor discussion. Seeing information across multiple boards, mix of public and private, contributing your own interpretation, etc. gets into a situation where "fair use" may be in play. I'm not a lawyer, so take that for what it's worth.
No, because there's actually no distinction here. If your only source is paywalled info, don't post it. We went through this a few months back with regards to recruiting. If your only source is a paywalled source, then (1) you aren't contributing to the discussion by posting inaccessible links and (2) you're violating the Community Guidelines by taking information from those sources because that's monetized content from someone else. It's certainly not our job to police other sites' policies with respect to sharing content, but it is TKP's stated policy that our members are not allowed to do this, in fairness to the people who make their livelihoods creating such content.
Asking a question is not a violation of any of the site's terms. I try to jump on such things quickly to stop anything from happening but in this case I was not quick enough. Joe deleted the original sub-thread arising from it, but it came up again.
Nothing from behind a paywall but, I do have it on good #sauces that he will most likely play next fall and apparently he's a beast
Paywall...TOS....blah.

But this news ^^...
And we need a beast or two to hit the boards hard this season, especially in light of us losing frontmen Henry and Pierce.
Whatever his condition was/is , the most important thing of all is that Ty is doing better.
Here's my 2 that don't involve a paywall or community guidelines:
Hudson transferred after starting over half the games this season and finished the season on a pretty good note. Obviously Ahmed Hill returning played a part into it, but he likely could have played the same role that he played his freshman season; that is, if there wasn't a good chance Outlaw could return.
People seem to be very excited about Outlaw from a talent standpoint. He's also a Buzz guy, so you know he's a hard worker. While Hudson is incredibly talented and might be able to start for several ACC schools next season, he wasn't a Buzz kind of guy with his effort at all times.
If Outlaw is as talented as he is said to be and Hudson asks for a transfer, I think it is fair to assume that Outlaw has a decent chance of being cleared.
I don't know how we've gotten this far without someone pointing out that we're potentially replacing a guy who was Tyrone some of the time with someone who's Tyrone all the time.
I like it.....we'll have a full time Tyrone. Let's hope he plays all the time like the other Tyrone.
I just want to point out how cool it is that I check TKP during the midst of spring ball and the top forum discussion here is still about basketball. That is seriously awesome. Buzz is changing the culture here quickly, and we may not even realize it yet. Honestly, this is great.
