Antone Exum won't play vs. Alabama according to head athletic trainer Mike Goforth. #Hokies— Hokies Journal (@HokiesJournal) August 5, 2013
Not a huge surprise, and Bitter had on update on his condition earlier:
Injured cornerback Antone Exum had always hoped to be back for the season opener against Alabama, although its starting to look like the ACC opener might be more realistic.
Exum, who tore his ACL, lateral and medial meniscus and broke a bone in his right knee playing pickup basketball in January, had an examination in Pensacola, Fla., with orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews on Monday as the Hokies convened for their first practice.
Upon exam, he still feels like Antone is a little ways away, strength-wise and trusting the knee, Virginia Tech head athletic trainer Mike Goforth said. They recommended increasing certain exercises and re-testing in two months.

Time for the others to step up.
Facyson or Manning, and Kendall Fuller as the nickel. I trust Torrian Gray to know how and where to compensate.
this. both facyson and manning have had their moments. one of them is lining up against amari (i'm assuming), and its their opportunity to become stars.
Kendall Fuller v Amari Cooper. FTW
With Exum out, younger guys are going to get reps. Our secondary is going to be sick next year, even after Exum and Big Fuller leave
Best that he is 100%. He'll be back when we need him.
Exactly and he can still make a huge impact in ACC play.
Agreed. See: Coles, D.J. 2012.
Can he still travel to GA? The team needs him on the sidelines. Man this sucks. Hate it for him bad.
injured players dont typically travel.
But I'm guessing he would since he's a leader of the team
Of course he will be in GA. Someone has to be there to console AJ's mom and GF after the beating he's going to take and, of course, the loss.
That's why I'm gonna be there.
I hate it for him, but not a huge surprise.
Better to let it be known going into practice.
He'll be back when it's time.......
Not surprising. At least there's no uncertainty going through camp. Others will step up, by necessity. It's too bad for him, but I hope he's healthy for the heart of ACC play. That's when I want him to be 100%.
Think of it this way - James Gayle will have McCarron on his ass so much during the game that the secondary won't even have to work hard...
You mean McCarron will have Gayle on his ass so much during the game dot dot dot
I think he means gayle will be knocking mcarron on his ass
^ This
I think D_Bam meant something a little different...
Naw, just correcting who will be on who's ass. That is all. no homo.
Our Front-7 definitely needs to keep the pressure on Bama's stout rushing attack, and terrify McCarron early and often.
Sucks about Exum but I didn't expect him to play anyway....
Completely unrelated, I'm watching the latest episode of The Newsroom right now and look what happens:

-but don't hit the play button, it's just a screenshot-
Only put this here because this thread was at the top; don't mean to photobomb your thread. And I wanted to share this with you good people. Carry on about Exum and such.
You get a +1 for having excellent taste in television.
Likewise to you sir. Great show
We got this, X. Don't you worry.
