Clemson will host College GameDay in Week 1 against UGA

UGA vs Clemson

Certainly, this is one of the most anticipated games of Week 1, with both teams ranked in top 10 in the preseason Coaches Poll. But was the pick too obvious?

Georgia and Clemson will have plenty of opportunities to host GameDay if they live up to their preseason billing. And if one of the teams is a pretender, then hey, a precious GameDay was wasted. Do you want that on your conscience, ESPN? Did the appeal of Western Kentucky at Kentucky escape you? Was the Battle For The Triangle (North Carolina Central at Duke) too hot to handle? Are you afraid to cover North Illinois at Iowa?

Realistically, though, the only other games that made sense were Alabama-Virginia Tech or LSU-TCU, and both are at neutral locations. Im excited for this game, and for Clemson fans to get the chance to show off. Here are some reasons why Clemson deserves this seasons first GameDay (and more):

Not surprising at all. It was pretty much known after they announced kickoff times.

Rip his freaking head off!

Should be a great environment.

Makes complete sense. FWIW, this is good for Virginia Tech in a roundabout way. Any exposure the ACC gets on the national stage is good for us. Just like any ACC team against a non-con, I'll be rooting for Clemson. Obviously, we want every ACC team to be ranked as high as possible going into league play (even if VT doesn't play them in the regular season)
