The University of Idaho will make the unprecedented move to drop down a level, from the Football Bowl Subdivision to the Football Championship Subdivision, sources told the Idaho Statesman on Wednesday
Idaho will be the first team to drop from FBS to FCS. However I do not think they will be the last.

We can recycle this quote when LOLUVa eventually follows suit.
Can we refer to the move as being Vandalized?
Just schedule 3 or 4 top FBS opponents each year to beat the snot out of you and get paid handsomely for it. They would probably make more money that way then they ever did in the Sun Belt Conference.
Seems to make sense if a team's having trouble competing in FBS.
The problem for them is that other than the Mountain West (which they can't get in because Boise) there aren't any G5 conferences on the west coast. People have talked about the Big Sky bumping up eventually, but that's a long way out.
No, you da hoe.
Probably a good plan for the Vandals. At least ESPN can't include them in the Bottom 10 anymore. Who knows, the FBS playoff could be right around the corner.
And in other news, Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead...
I can recommend 55 other teams who should follow suit.
UVA....if college football had relegation they'd should just go ahead and send themselves down 55 times
Suck it, Mark Schlereth!
A clip from the announcement
I need no context for this to be funny
Good move for Idaho. If they dominate the FCS they will get more out of football than sucking every year at FBS
Is there any reason to believe they'd dominate the FCS, though? Here's a look at the Idaho's Sagarin ratings the last few years and how they'd rank in the Big Sky if they were there in that year.
Year Sagarin Rk. Place in Big Sky
2015-----148-----8th ( of 14 )
2014-----174----- 6th ( of 14 )
2013-----190-----10th ( of 14 )
2012-----165----- 11th ( of 14 )
2011-----141----- 6th ( of 10 )
Not sure that is really translatable that easily. One of their biggest issues is that they fall distinctly in a talent gap. The "elite" FCS recruits wouldn't go there because they are FBS and perennial losers, and the FBS recruits they want won't go there because there is little attraction and they are perennial losers. But by moving down the thought is that they would be more attractive to a better crop of recruits at FCS level, who know they will only play at that level. Thus they would likely be a better team and program at FCS.
Of course that's the idea, if they can actually do it is another thing altogether.
We should just put this permanently into place with a relegation structure like they do in soccer.
Scholarship rules would destroy teams.
Wonder if this move take some of the stigma off for Eastern Michigan. Read an article where the students and faculty want the program to move down a division because they are paying to subsidize the program with exorbitant student fees.
Student athletic fees are almost $1,000 at a school across the street from Michigan's Stadium, whose students never, seriously never attend events. All events, not just football. And they are decent at none of them. There has been rumors that the athletic boosters practically folded after changing the name to Eagles from Hurons. Apparently, they couldn't figure out how Utah uses the eagle mascot, and keeps the Utes name.
Changing school names and program names NEVER works out for alumni. Most alumni simply say I never went there so why should I give money?
IDAHO DROPS FOOTBALL like a hot potato

No one?
