Perhaps 13 will be Kendall Fuller's lucky number.
Fuller became the 13th corner selected in the 2016 NFL Draft when the Washington Redskins picked him with the 84th overall pick on Friday night. The 5-11, 187 pound former Hokie All-American underwent microfracture surgery on his right knee in September. Prior to an injury-shortened junior campaign at Virginia Tech, draftniks projected Fuller as a first round prospect.
The #Redskins select Virginia Tech CB Kendall Fuller at No. 84. Could've gone in the first round except for a knee injury.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) April 30, 2016
Fuller unites with fellow former Hokies Kyshoen Jarrett and DeAngelo Hall in Washington's secondary. Kendall will face both his brothers this season; Corey and the Lions on 10/23/16 and Kyle and the Bears on 12/24/16.
You know we love our VT guys. I played with his older brother and he taught me a lot. I can't wait to coach up this Fuller kid #PayItForward— DeAngelo Hall (@DeAngeloHall23) April 30, 2016

Comments
A crime that he wasn't drafted earlier, and that the VT staff decided to play him with a torn meniscus.
May take a little while, but this guy is gonna be special. Good luck throwing on a team with J-No and a full strength Kendall Fuller.
As a Panther's fan I don't know if I'll ever forgive Gettleman for not only passing on him once, but then trading up to take a wvu db...
It's not like it wasn't his choice to play on a bum knee.
I get that and I know it's to a lesser degree, but you don't let a possibly concussed guy go back out there, even if he's insisting on it.
The professionals shouldn't have given him the choice.
This was a catastrophic failure, and personally I would classify it as negligence, on the part of VT medical staff. The decision to play Kendall hurt cost him millions of dollars, and could have easily ended his football career. It's unfortunate that HIPPA regulations prevent it, but I think programs should be required to report player injuries (meaning exact diagnosis) to a governing body. There obviously needs to be more oversight.
IH your argument holds no water. Any patient can state on his release form who may obtain medical information. All they have to do is list the party. Now if the person does not list the entity or the entity does not do their research then that is on them. There is no need fro more oversight. The whole system has too much as it is.
It's amazing how people with no private information -- thankfully due to HIPAA - can state with such certainty what did & didn't happen and what should or shouldn't have happened.
Yea. Medical privacy is pretty important. I really don't think exceptions should be made for collegiate athletics. If the doctor is not doing his job with the best interests of the patient, then that's a different issue.
^^^^THIS RIGHT HERE^^^^
I had no idea that so many TKP'ers were privy (or demand their right to be) to the content of the private medical conversations and decisions made between KF11, his parents, the MDs treating him, and the FB staff.
Did it cost him, probably so. But you can guarantee that numerous extended conversations were had amongst the necessary parties before he stepped back onto that field.
HIPPA is in place for reason and some of these folks on here are just solidifying why. Just because he plays for your favorite college's football team doesn't automatically grant you exclusive access to his medical records and the personal life decisions he makes.
But without all the information, how are we supposed to second guess the decisions other people made in the past with the benefit of knowing how it all worked out in the future (which, of course, those decision makers didn't know at the time)? /s
That can be done spectacularly with no information -- or better yet, with completely inaccurate information.
And generally is...
Hey the Skins are having a pretty great draft am I right? Kendall might be the steal of the draft!
Scot McCloughan might be a raging alcoholic, but my gosh he's a genius at this whole GM thing. Been very happy with all the Skins picks so far, especially our third round choice. We don't really need another CB right now, but Kendall was too good to pass up at that spot.
Very quickly, the secondary has gone from biggest weakness to strength. I'm pretty excited about it. Now we just need some D-line
I obviously like the fuller pick in the 3rd, but cravens in the 2nd i'm not so sure about. hopefully he does have the range to be able to play SS, but most people seemed to be projecting him as an undersized OLB which we obviously wouldn't use in the 3-4.
I have no idea what to make of the Cravens pick until we see what Gruden actually does with him but he is a talent for sure and could be very helpful in the TE heavy NFL
3rd Round is still good, but I'm sure this is a bit of a bruiser. I'm sure he thought he would go higher. Wonder if this would have changed his decision.
Effing Hail!
THIS is SWEET!!!!
Microfracture surgery is no joke... Unlike repairing torn ligaments (which seems to get better from year to year), microfracture surgery is like the equivalent of a skull with crossed bones beneath, because seemingly players aren't able to come back from it 100% like they were on a consistent basis. Yes, Kendall had 1st round talent... But what if he never produced to his full potential again? This is most likely the thinking of NFL GM's and their scouting staffs. Because we saw what happened to Fuller while he was injured.
On a side note, I was very disappointed to see him fall past the first part of the second round. He's a great player, and he probably fell a round for the same reason Myles Jack did (although with Jack, it is scares that he may have to have the surgery in the near future due to degeneration of ligaments in his knee). Fuller was EASILY better than almost all of the DB's in this draft class when he was 100% (barring Ramsey and maybe Hargreaves) and I will miss having him lock up one side of the field for use while Facyson locks up the other side.
His agent should be fired. Completely misread the draft and extent his injury would damage his prospects. He would've made millions more if he had stayed an extra year. I feel good for Fuller, of course, but it could've been so much better.
You can't get an agent until you declare for the draft.
Why do I hear laughter coming from the general direction of Chapel Hill?
Not necessarily. He might have gotten hurt again like Exum and fallen to an even later round. Plus can you blame him for wanting to get away from the VT medical staff as quickly as possible?
You assume his knee will improve.
That's a big assumption and it's the NFL the most elite athletes in the world
NFL money is in the 2nd contract since they restructured rookie deals. Sure he could have made a lot more IF he was a 1st round pick, but who knows if that would have happened if he stayed a year. Then what? He would have lost a year of earning salary in the NFL and be another year out from getting to the real contract. If you can get drafted in the first 3 rounds you should leave to the NFL as soon as you can nowadays.
While I'm generally of the opinion that student-athletes should finish their degrees before going pro (especially if they're Hokies), I think Kendall probably made the best decision. I don't know much about micro-fracture surgery, but what little I've read seems to indicate that full recovery is questionable. If he re-injures himself this year in the NFL and never regains his form, at least he has that one NFL contract in the bank. If the same were to happen at VT next year, he might never make an NFL paycheck. From what we all know about the Fuller family, it seems likely that if he doesn't pan out in the NFL, he'll finish his degree and still be successful at life, with a nice little nest egg already started.
Not where I expected but still deserving a....
Damn I miss that defense
Damn, I never looked at Kendall that close up before. Dude's buff. /s
Pretty sure that's Xavier Adibi.
True story. I completely missed the /s...
I miss those jerseys
Never been a Skins fan but with all these Hokies I'm a convert.
Nice that Kendall can play so close to home. Too bad about round 3
but I guess you never know in the draft. Hope he has a good season.
Do y'all think Hokies are developing a reputation with the skins?
Great pick by the skins, excellent value at this point.
Not the best of fits for him, but for his sake I hope it works out. The fact 13 DBs were taken ahead of him, some coming off ACL tears, is extremely alarming. At this point I'm just glad he got drafted.
I'm not too worried. ACL happens and players return to form. There's a big question when it comes to microfracture surgery. He probably would have fallen much farther if it wasn't the Redskins team doctor that fixed him up.
I'm delighted that he's on my squad.
Curious why you think he's not a good fit.
Hail yes!!
I loved Urban Meyer's comments during the draft (he was on NFL Network) When Kendall got drafted Urban said: "We faced him the last 2 years. He dominated us 2 years ago. When they beat us at home, he shut down our receivers. He's got tremendous cover skills."
But his next sentence was a bunch of bullshit.
the one saying they did much better against him last year? It's true the td to Thomas was 1 on 1 versus kendall. If you couldn't tell his knee was already done at that point though you just didn't want to believe he was hurt.
Myer's next sentence was (paraphrasing), "In the second game we changed some things and we did much better against him." which is not bullshit only if you consider "changed some things" to mean "noticed that he wasn't even close to 100% and began to target him." Myer said nothing about Fuller being noticeably injured, just implied that they made adjustments which allowed OSU to get the better of him. That steaming pile was straight from the pasture.
Don't disagree at all, but our staff had the information and he didn't. We're just as much to blame for almost using him as a decoy hoping other teams wouldn't pick up on it.
Bummer he got passed up so many times for less talented dbs, but glad the skins took a chance. Hopefully the knee continues to get stronger. #httr #dbu
"The Hokies have had a DB drafted 17 out of the last 18 years."
Who goes next year?
Maybe Facyson late.
Chuck Clark hopefully. I think he'll have a stellar year.
brandon facyson too probably
Here is to both!
Donaldven Manning /s
I was worried he'd go to the Ravens and I'd have to hate him. Now he's a Redskin and I can just pity him.
When they make another run to the playoffs? That would be a pity I suppose.
Guh. Here's hoping he plays well 14 games out of the year.
I try not to post crap from my own Twitter account on here, but Kendall Fuller may have become my favorite athlete of all time after last night. Been a huge fan of his since day 1, but been an even bigger fan of the burgundy and gold. I was honored to have been in a few classes with him in the fall (#Pamplin), and this picture was taken after an exam review that was completely optional, which goes to show that I believe the man definitely has his head on straight. Hail yeah!!
As a die-hard skins fan starting back in the early 70s, I am sooo thrilled that a Fuller will be a Redskin. But I think it was a steal and Fuller should have been snapped up earlier. Glad he will be close to home for his family.
Video of Kendall getting the call:
Is that Donovan Riley in the background at the 0:28 ending part?
Looks like KF is the only one selected but I am sure 4 or 5 others will get a look. I am a Steelers fan and am pissed at their draft! Really pissed! So to make us feel better, I did attend the uva spring game and made time for a pre festivus party.
. Hope he takes his time getting on to the field
Anybody else think that DeAngelo is going to get one year to train his replacement?
Deangelo has already moved to safety...
I see Hall as an optimal FS who had to play SS last year. Cravens is definitely not a FS so don't think hall is in danger.
Duke Ihenacho is projected as the starting SS, D Hall at FS. Good thing we have Cravens tho because unfortunately with D Hall and Nacho man, the question isn't if they'll get hurt, it's when. Pretty sure we started 11 different DBs last year. Everyone was dropping like flies so it's nice to have some depth.
