No New Years Day games at all. New Years Day is a Sunday this (next?) year, so I'm guessing CFB doesn't want to compete with the NFL. Yet again - CFB putting a playoff game at 7pm on NYE...
Saturday, 12/31:
11 a.m. Citrus Bowl
11 a.m. TaxSlayer Bowl
3 p.m. or 7 p.m. Peach Bowl
3 p.m. or 7 p.m. Fiesta Bowl
Monday, 1/2
1 p.m. Outback Bowl
1 p.m. Cotton Bowl Classic
5 p.m. Rose Bowl Game ESPN
8:30 p.m. Sugar Bowl

I have no idea what my new years plans are but I doubt I'll watch the late game that day. I didn't last year. Oh well *shrug emoji*
You had better be watching. The Hokies will be participating, of course!
IF, on the off chance the Hokies make it to the Semis and are playing in the 7PM slot, I will most definitely be watching. My hope, though, is that the Hokies play first in the 3PM slot. That way I get the best of both worlds. I'll watch our beloved Hokies dominate some team in the early afternoon and then I'll go out and celebrate the arrival of a rare Prime Numbered year.
College is smartly avoiding the NFL on Sunday January 1. I am pleased that the Hawaii Bowl is still being held Christmas Eve.
When is the national championship game? That's the only time Hokie fans should be concerned with.
You do know that you have to play in a game before the Natty right? So we should probably watch that one too.
Why would a watch a game I know we're going to win?
(I'm photographing a New Years Eve wedding so I can't watch anyway)
Sounds like you're not so sure we'll win the NC game...
We're gonna win the NC game. It'll be the best NC game ever. And we're gonna make NCAA pay for it.
EDIT: Forgot to add: "We're gonna make Virginia Tech great again!"
If we make it there, all of those are true.
New Year's Eve Wedding?
That's either madness or genius.
All of your friends in one big party!
All of them the boohoos will never get an invite to.
Wrong. Quin Blanding says they are going to a bowl. Or maybe he meant they are buying tickets to a game?

It's a shame that people are probably eating breakfast while reading this, or I'd post the bowl they'll be going to.
If Quin never makes it to a bowl in his career at LOLUVA, I'll personally pay for a game ticket so he can go to a bowl. A guy that good deserves to see at least one in his life, even if he didn't make the best decision on his college destination.
Should this not read 2016-17? It's kinda late to schedule last season's bowl games. :)
I think the bigger issue last year was putting the game at 8 pm on NYE. That was the only good thing about Michigan State just rolling over, it made the game go quicker and end well before midnight.
As was said after the last round of playoffs, it will be a while before we really have enough data to determine whether or not NYE playoff games are a good thing. This year, NYE is on a Saturday. Next year, the games rotate back to January 1. Although it is funny that all of the years where NYE would fall on a Sunday, and potentially push the games back to December 30th are all years that the CFP is on 1/1.
I don't think Frank Beamer decides when the games are played...

I'm not sure how much of difference one hour will make... My new years celebrations typically start by 9 or 10.
I agree, it will take a few years determine. I'm just salty because I tend to do not-CFB-things on NYE. If there's two CFP games on NYE I wind up missing at least half of one (best case, when NYE is on a Saturday) or both games all together (when NYE is not on a weekend and I have to work).
Love the NYE games, hope they keep them.
Are these just the games on the ESPN family, or across all networks?
Just ESPN and affiliated networks. Sun Bowl and Foster Farms bowls are 2 others , along with any ASN-televised bowl games
The semis will be moved when the Rose Bowl takes a piece of humble pie and plays on New Years Eve.
Or the outback bowl could move to 12/31 at 7pm.
