That picture is the funniest thing I've ever seen.

I have some PSU friends. Even if this information is true, they would STILL defend JoPa. Talk about a cult up there.

The Dude Abides

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

I went to grad school in PA. Honestly, they could show video of JoPa watching Sandusky do his thing and they would still defend him.

This visual is just too much.

I'm not looking for NCAA sanctions but why hasn't the DOJ or US Attorney not investigated the school, people involved, local PD, local DA office.

From the Penn Live article:

Others, most notably Penn State's independent Sandusky investigator Louis Freeh, have alleged that, at least from 1998 on, Paterno, then-Penn State President Graham Spanier and two of Spanier's top managers were aware of complaints against and about Sandusky.

In a pending criminal case, Spanier, former athletic director Tim Curley and former vice president for business and finance Gary Schultz are accused of failing to report a specific allegation of abuse by Sandusky in 2001 that a then-graduate assistant had reported directly to Joe Paterno.

No idea about the 1976 allegations, but there is/was a criminal investigation.

"Exit light..."

That was a criminal investigation of a few people. I'm talking a pattern and practice investigation of local PD, a RICO investigation of PSU admin and athletic dept and a criminal probe of the local DA's office.

that seems like an awful lot of money to spend on an investigation surrounding the acts of a monster which has already been apprehended.

I'm not saying that it's not worth investigating but public officials who make those decisions might think its a waste of money.

Onward and upward

The DOJ has done pattern and practice investigations of PD's with a lot less victims complaining. Plus the DOJ is already investigating schools like UVA for their handling of sexual violence this would roll right into that.

Pretty sure PSU was probed pretty thoroughly by this point. I don't think the Police got much wind of this. It was one monster preying on victims, and 5-10 people who hid it.

Chances are, Sandusky is still being probed pretty thoroughly

Dude!! I always complained to my wife about it never being sunny in Pennsylvania - we lived there for 3 years. Once we moved to VA, it was apparent that I wasn't crazy in thinking that. It really doesnt sunshine up there much.

But I thought it was always Sunny in Philadelphia?! TV is such bullshit...

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
β€œI served in the United States Navy"

Jokes aside. This is just sick. Allowing that to continue for that long is just disgusting. The optics are incredibly bad (in more ways than one). This just sickens me.

Pain is Temporary, Chicks Dig Scars
Glory is Forever, Let's Go Hokies!!

Seriously though, wtf!? Are some of the employees of the DOJ alumni of PSU or something?

This is really really sad on a lot of levels both for the young men involved and as a commentary on culture (both large and small).

A lot of nuances here... I'm sure this type of thing has happened/is happening in other places/venues.

Lesson: Most people aren't really who we think they are (for the good and the bad), and the ethos of most organizations really isn't what we imagine it to be (for the good and the bad).

Is coronavirus over yet?

It's been affirmed probably over a million times, but I'm so very glad and thankful we had Beamer.

Some men in positions of trust and power over young people have long been abusers of that power, some caught, many or most even, not. When my wife started a Big Brothers Big Sisters program in central Va. back in the 80s, she was told that special attention should be paid to vet the applications of volunteers that work in those areas. Preachers, school teachers, policemen, etc. were to be paid special attention to. I guess we can obviously add coaches to that list. Pedophiles seek those positions out and use them to exploit vulnerable youth. It's just their modus operandi, and they seldom get caught in the act. Usually they get caught when their victims grow up and start dealing with screwed up lives or perpetuating the abuse they experienced at the hands of these "trusted" men. What a mess, huh?

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

Whats sad to see is the continued reaction of the Penn St. community and the Paterno family in specific, that will twist any way they can to explain how Joe Pa couldn't have possibly known!

At this point, I can't imagine any way that he wasn't aware for quite awhile. He was literally the most powerful man in that community. At the very least we know he was told at least once and did nothing. His own words "I should have done more", but he never clarified what he meant by that but it seems obvious. I've heard them say "It was the witnesses fault, they should have gone to the police, Paterno was just a football coach". As if a football coach doesn't understand when things are glaringly, horrifically wrong going on.

It will probably never be proven, and the monster is behind bars for the rest of his life now. But as far as I am concerned, you will never convince me that Paterno wasn't aware of this for a lot longer than just the early 2000s. And that leads me to believe there are a number of victims that could have been spared from having this horrible event befall them if he (and many others that seem to have looked the other way at Penn St.) could have manned up and cared more about kids than football.

I honestly hope Penn St. football is never relevant again. I'm from PA and I could never stand them, even moreso now.

You're spot on.

Specifically in regards to Paterno - the man is dead and lived just long enough to see his entire legacy tarnished. What do people expect to happen when more reports come out regarding whether or not, and for how long, he knew? It's not like we can dig him up and posthumously charge him with anything and most everyone outside of the PSU cult already have a less than favorable viewpoint on him.

Now if you find info linking living people with covering it up then I'm all for going after them.

Cost his estate money, it was clearly an institutional problem it should cost PSU money, it should also cost them in new training required of employees.

His estate? Joe used to turn around and donate most of his money back to the university. You also have to prove things in a court of law and who is actually going to sue the family?

Every victim after he was told and did nothing. Civil court is actually only preponderance of the evidence not beyond a doubt proof. Think that standard has already been met.

it's not like this is some constant witch hunt with the sole purpose of getting paterno's statue torn down or getting effigy of him burned.

these are all part of larger court proceedings against PSU and members of the administration; in this regard what he knew and when is actually still important

6 coaches saw it happening and the school did nothing

If all of this is true throw the fucking book at the school. Considering the rallies in support they haven't learned and likely never will. And get creative if you have to. Don't bar then from playing but bar anyone from playing them.

DAYUM!!!! That's cold-blooded! What a sec...

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Their post-season ban and scholarship reduction should have never been overturned. PSU fans are awful. They are basically Holocaust deniers and I wouldn't be surprised if there is not big overlap between the two groups.

CNN: Paterno pressured victims to drop charges

"I tell them what happened β€” well, I couldn't get it out of me that I was β€” I can't even tell it to this day. It's just degrading β€” that I was raped," he said.

"I told the story up to a certain point. I told them that he grabbed me and that I got the hell out of there."

He insisted that he "made it very clear" it was a sexual attack.

"I made it clear there were things done to me that I just can't believe could have been done to me and I couldn't escape. I said, 'I'm very upset and scared and I couldn't believe I let my guard down.' They listened to me. And then all hell broke loose.

"They were asking me my motive, why I would say this about someone who has done so many good things."

They accused him of making it up. "'Stop this right now! We'll call the authorities,'" he said they told him.

Victim A says he couldn't think. "I just wanted to get off the phone."

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

That people still think his statue should be re-installed is an amazing example of rationalization.

Per ESPN, Penn St has confirmed that a portion of the settlement they paid out to make this all go away includes a payment to the accusers from the 1971 case.

So.... yeah... Keep that in mind when you hear all the venom today being spewed by the high ranking Penn St officials.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

At this point Penn St. and the Paternos just need to stop talking.

I understand that watching the final nail go into your father's legacy is probably a shitty experience...but at this point it's just making things worse.

I agree. At this point, the only thing that could possibly be said in favor of Paterno is that he was hopelessly naive, which is still horrible in relation to the seriousness of the situation. Best for all to just shut up.

"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it." - K

Except its coming out he wasn't naive. In fact, if the reports are to be true, he not only knew what was going on, but was making personal calls to the accusers pressuring them into dropping charges way back when to keep it all under wraps. Oh, and pretty much the entire PSU football coaching staff knew about it, but weren't allowed to act on the knowledge.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

That's my point. Best case is he was naive enough to think Sandusky was being falsely accused. Worst case is that he believed it to be true and didn't care.

"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it." - K

"Worst case is that he believed it to be true and didn't care"

I'm starting to wonder if the narrative is going to go from "condone" to "endorse" soon...

We may not have reached "worst case scenario".

It really IS hard to understand how one can know about a creepy guy like Sandusky butt raping minor young men in the showers, in a place that is tantamount to your kingdom, and firmly entrenched as the legendary ruler of said kingdom, and simply let it go.

If Paterno was not outraged by that, which seems to be the case...how DID he feel about it?

Yikes.

A picture is worth a thousand words. A gif is worth a million.

Back when this all went down I told all the PSU fans I knew to just accept the punishment and drop it all. It's better to just get it over and done with and consider it a part of the past instead of having it pop up all the time into perpetuity.

Holy dogshit! As horrible as everything they did is, this right here made me roflmao. Much thanks Mr. HOAT!

Unsealed Court Documents: 6 separate instances of child sexual-assault were either witnessed by or reported to Penn St admins as far back as 1976.

Only two went to trial. All 6 were given settlement payments by Penn St.

From the 1976 allegation:

The victim, who was identified in court records as John Doe 150, said that while he was attending a football camp at Penn State, Sandusky touched him as he showered. Sandusky's finger penetrated the boy's rectum, Doe testified in court in 2014, and the victim asked to speak with Paterno about it. Doe testified that he specifically told Paterno that Sandusky had sexually assaulted him, and Paterno ignored it.

"Is it accurate that Coach Paterno quickly said to you, 'I don't want to hear about any of that kind of stuff, I have a football season to worry about?'" the man's lawyer asked him in 2014.

"Specifically. Yes . . . I was shocked, disappointed, offended. I was insulted. . . I said, is that all you're going to do? You're not going to do anything else?"

Paterno, the man testified, just walked away.

Wow. Just wow. Inexcusable.

We put the K in Kwality

Clearly the statue should come back up as PSU football alums have requested.... \s

Wow. That's brilliant. I feel so dirty for awarding that leg.

'You're gonna apologize' to Jerry Sandusky, alleged sex abuse victim told after reporting assault

A sex assault victim was told to apologize to Jerry Sandusky, his alleged abuser, and another Pennsylvania State University official after reporting the assault in the late 1980s, according to court documents released Tuesday.

"You're gonna apologize to coach," John Doe 102 said he was told after he brought the alleged incident to the attention of adults responsible for his safety. Sandusky and former athletic director Jim Tarman were standing 15 feet away at the time, he said.

At the time of the assault, John Doe 102 was living in Nittany House, a nonprofit sanctuary for troubled teen boys as an alternative to placement at the Centre County Juvenile Detention Center.

....

"At some point, it got to the point of, well, 'you're lying'," John Doe 102 said. "We never β€” definitely didn't get into details that were here, you know, about that, but it was β€” I would say, yeah, they were definitely poking holes in my story."

After being questioned, the victim said he was told to sit in the dining room of the East Nittany Avenue facility, which currently houses the Nittany Co-Op, with his chair facing the wall.

"They gave me a chair and made me turn around and face the wall, seemingly as far away from that office as I could be while they talked," the victim said.

At some point during the time the victim was facing the wall, Sandusky and Tarman came to the facility. John Doe 102 said he didn't know how or when they arrived and he never directly spoke with them.

According to the report by the female official, whose name was redacted from the deposition released Tuesday, "Gordon told John Doe 102 to apologize to Sandusky and Tarman for telling lies, adding that, 'you're probably going to be moved from Nittany House'."

Being moved from Nittany House, John Doe 102 said, was tantamount to being transferred to the detention center, a "prison for juveniles."

I really do hate Penn State with a vengeance for this mess.

I don't hate Penn State, I loathe the people involved in the cover up.

I've been saying for some time, these Penn St. folks just need to give it up.

These letterman asking for the statue to be brought back only reali reminds me of the sheer awfulness that this school went along with for the sake of winning some games. I honestly had not really though about PSU at all in months until I saw that story pop up.

There is sadly at this point no other way to correct what was done to these poor kids. They just need to stop the hero worship and move on.

Complete definition of absolute sick fucks.

This is the story that just doesn't stop.

Penn State Investigating New Sexual Abuse Allegation Against Jerry Sandusky

Penn State police are investigating a new sexual abuse allegation brought against former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky, according to the Centre Daily Times.

University spokesperson Wyatt DuBois and police confirmed to the newspaper on Wednesday that an individual visited the Lasch Football Building on Tuesday and told authorities that they were sexually assaulted by Sandusky between June 2000 and September 2010.

"This incident report is the result of the university's internal and external reporting procedures upon receipt of a new allegation of abuse by Jerry Sandusky," DuBois told the Centre Daily Times on Wednesday. "An investigation is ongoing and we have no further comment."

Keep in mind, Sandusky was arrested in 2011, so if this was the case, this was happening during the time he was being investigated. And knowing Paterno knew about this as early as 1976, to hear it was still going in 2010.... Absolutely disgusting

r/cfb shuts down every single post about PSU sexual abuse. It is super annoying

Would be less annoying if the NCAA hadn't restored the Paterno victories achieved after his knowledge of Sandusky's activities, under pressure from Pennsylvania politicians.

I'm not really feeling sorry for the Penn State fans who want his statue back up.
