OT Assassins Creed Movie

Personally, I'm pumped for this movie! Any thoughts from other AC fans in TKP community?

I saw the trailer today and it looks pretty interesting! I'm hoping it transitions well to the big screen because that's a ton of content to squeeze into two hours.

Loved the games, I will be very interested in seeing this

Well, if history has proven anything, if Ubisoft isn't developing it, its most likely going to suck.

First impression is that it's going to be a lot of glitz and not much substance. Not interested enough to put down any cash for tickets. Will watch it when it hits Netflix.

Just thought of this, but with the WOW movie hitting the screen soon, are movies based off of games set to be the next craze from the movie industry?

Go Hokies

Which is pretty much par for the course, as we've been here before.

Doom, anyone?

This is sure to join the ranks of such video game to movie classics as "Super Mario Bros," "Doom," and "Mortal Kombat." I look forward to seeing it sweep the oscars /s

To be fair, the Tomb Raider movies weren't bad.

But maybe that had more to do with Angelina Jolie being cast as Lara Croft than the substance itself.

I believe there is a Tomb Raider reboot on the way.

I will say the two newest TR games on XBox One were pretty fantastic.

I only played the first of the new ones (2nd one hasn't come to PS4, yet) but I agree... very good game. Right up there with Uncharted (which, Uncharted 4 seems to have borrowed a few of the ideas of TR from...) which I would put right up there on the upper tier of game series right now.

well duh. it's not funny if you list any movies that didn't completely suck

I would hate to Doom this conversation. Carry on

Personally I think it looks terrible. It looks like a dance movie with assassins.

I'm a little hesitant. Like it's been said, movies derived from video games are usually shitty but this has a proven cast so I'm hopeful. Also, I dig the music choice.

So far from the trailer it looks pretty consistent with game play motions and use of environment to move around cities. Its sequences in the fight scenes also seem to be in line with most of the gameplay. I am glad they limited it to a specific time period and event as the timeline should flow better that way. The wider the story the harder it is to tell from an Assassins point of view has been my opinion of the gameplay so far. I think the crux will be how well they handle the switch between the current timeline and the Spanish Inquisition back and forth as that was always a bit of a lag in gameplay for me. The main character, Michael Fassbender seems too high profile for them to not have a good portion of the movie focus back on the present time and how he will impact the future of the struggle. One thing I just learned was that there was a TV mini series of Assassins Creed done back in 2009 and apparently an animated short film in 2010. May have to see if I can dig those out somehow to watch them.

If you find those online please share. I would love to see how those were. I agree that keeping it to 1 time period would be best & that there are a lot of upper end actors in the film will give it a greater chance of being successful.

Go Hokies

I love the game series. I will wait on more substantive previews before I decide how I feel about the movie. I hope it lives up the the game's story line.

I'm waiting for a full scale Witcher movie, that's the game adaptation I would love to see.

Although it would probably be difficult to make it as awesome as the actual stories in the games.

Looks like it should raise the (incredibly low) bar for video game movies, but the AC games were always rather cinematic.

This looks like it'll be OK. At the very least I hope it leads to the games getting better. They kinda stagnated the past couple games.

Would love to see the last of us made into a movie.

Yes,that's the Hokie Bird riding a camel. Why'd you ask?

I'm only watching this movie if they stay close how the game is really like....

Oh awesome. This is the movie where Rocky grooms Apollo Creed's son Adonis to join an elite group of mercenaries who, despite being in it just for the money, always do the right thing.

At the end it's Creed vs the evil Capt. Vinh in a no-holds barred arm-wrestling match.

I cannot wait!

I can't wait for the action to be interrupted with a first person view of walking around a cubicle farm!

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Really hoping that it doesn't turn out like Prince of Persia, where the groundwork for an excellent movie is all there (solid story, vivid imagery and style) but the entire tone of the game is lost because the filmmakers attempt to appeal to as many demographics a possible. The assassin in the movie isn't depicted in any of the games so I don't see the point of taking the general idea of a game that is well-known for its story and then creating characters to free up artistic freedom. Also hoping that the female assassin adds value to the film as opposed to being a one-dimensional character for the sake of PR. That seems to be a trend for game adaptations as of late, and as someone who has played most of the Assassins Creed games I'm not sure that it will make sense in the story given the time period. The Assassin's Creed games portray themselves as realistic for the time-period and public outcry has changed a lot of their artistic vision, I hope that the movie doesn't take the same route.
