Alabama OT Cam Robinson Faces Felony Weapons Charge

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2016/05/17/potential-2017-top-pick-...

Likely the best tackle in the country entering this season and all but guaranteed first round pick. This is a big blow to the defending champs repeat aspirations. Maybe the SEC is a little more open this year. Crazy how someone can blow millions of dollars because they can't stop hanging with the wrong crowd.

Robinson was arrested in his hometown of Monroe, Louisiana. Records from the Ouachita Correctional Center show that he is currently in custody.

Jail records show that he is facing a felony charge of illegal possession of stolen firearms and a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance, as well as a charge of illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of narcotics.

Bama kicked some other player off the team not long ago also. Be interesting to see SEC and Bama procedures for a felony arrest.

I can't imagine he doesn't get kicked. Saban gives second chances, but felony charges will probably be too much to ignore

This is a big blow to the defending champs repeat aspirations.

with the insane depth that Bama has, I doubt their repeat aspirations are hampered that much by this. Just about any other team in the country, maybe, but Bama is absolutely loaded.

Onward and upward

Their oline probably has the least depth of any position group, especially by experience. Cam was by far their best player and anchor. They'll still be a damn good team, but going up against Myles Garrett, Derek Barnett and Ken Ekanem will create huge problems for whoever steps in.

Looks like it was 2 players arrested.

Alabama football players Cam Robinson and Hootie Jones were arrested early Tuesday morning in Monroe, La., on possession and weapons charges, according to a tweet by Barrett Sallee of Bleacher Report.

Darius Rucker is sad.

What amuses me is that these players are young enough that he could have conceivably been named after Hootie and the Blowfish

I'm thinking the timing is just about perfect to be named after this:

More acurately, named after a popular song from this album: "Hootie Hoo"

Somehow I read this and thought of Mike Gundy delivering the speech.

I doubt Saban actually says this at all.

Korren Kirven could start if Robinson is suspended/kicked off the team. Feels like Kirven has been there 10 years only sparingly seeing the field during garbage time.

Guys, what makes you think this will affect his playing time at all? This is the $EC.........

Well considering Saban just said something to the effect of "we are investigating the incident to see what action should be taken." I'm not sure what they need to investigate.

Whether to implement double-secret probation or just regular secret probation.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

If he gets even a decent lawyer, this will probably all be plead down to misdemeanors and considering there were two players involved, dont doubt the second guy become the fall guy especially when you read the story and realize the second player is a reserve guy that got two tackles in nine games played in.

Maybe if the gun wasn't stolen.

A good lawyer will even make that disappear as long as he doesnt have a long list of priors. Person that reported it stolen suddenly remembers they gave it to him or his fall guy takes the blame for having it and giving it to the guy. Sells a good story of how he bought it at a flea market, gun show or the like down south and will happily have the gun returned to the rightful owner now that the law has pointed out that he got duped. Shady details of seller fail to turn up a guy at the next version of the event. Something along the lines that make it less than he stole it.

http://www.knoe.com/content/news/Charges-against-University-of-Alabama-f...

District Attorney Jerry Jones confirms that the charges against Alabama athletes Cam Robinson and Laurence 'Hootie' Jones have been dropped.

Jones says, "I want to emphasize once again that the main reason I'm doing this is that I refuse to ruin the lives of two young men who have spent their adolescence and teenage years, working and sweating, while we were all in the air conditioning."

This really surprises me, if the search was legal then I'm not sure how the charges are just dismissed.

Guess you need to be smoking a blunt WHILE actively ripping off rounds to pass the burden of proof down South. Guess it helps if you are black AND play football in the SEC. My guess is the jails are stuffed with men of color who didn't have NFL measurables and far less evidence. smh

"stolen gun" was returned to owner or owner agreed that he let them "borrow" the guns ... a nice check probably was involved and its over.

"Oh, so why did I report it stolen, then change my story, thereby effectively filing a false police report? Uh, because I'm good at football?"

I am sure that they got the best lawyer that was also a booster of Alabama appointed to them and that lawyer made a strong argument regarding who and how often the vehicle the items were found in were used by people other than the two being charged, since it does sound like none of the items were found directly on the individuals. This puts the onus on the state of Alabama to prove that the two in question had brought those items into the vehicle and which of even those two were responsible for which items. Two players could even play the game of he said, he said. Each one claims no knowledge and indicates it must be the others stuff or someone else's. I am not surprised by this result of all the possibilities. Especially when its Alabama football on the line.

Really a competent Commenwealths attorney would point out the law says its in your car it's yours. I've charged 5 people in a car for a small bag of coke and everyone of them were convicted of possession.

Was it either of the two who were arrested involved cars though? A decent attorney will bring up the histories of anyone associated with the vehicle especially if Robinson and Jones were not the owner, would likely present evidence that the gun wasnt stolen if they can, and also question why the two other men in the car were not charged while these two were. Stolen gun was found under the seat that Robinson was sitting in. The other gun involved was found in the lap of "Hootie" but it sounds like it was his gun and Louisiana allows for open carry since the vehicle was not being operated. They also have some of the slackest laws in terms of ownership and have no requirements for a license to open carry. Same can be said of their laws surrounding possession of less than a gram of marijuana. I didnt expect originally to see all the charges dropped but I never expected them to see a conviction on anything close to a felony. This just takes it a step farther, although it also means that the charges could be refiled if new evidence is discovered.

Saban said that as punishment Robinson's back-up will be suspended for a game and one of the practice squad guys will be kicked off the team. "Robinson will have to live with knowing he let those guys down. I think that's punishment enough" he was quoted as saying.

I was wrong above. Saban is actually going to do nothing. His quote from SEC media days (and I swear I'm not making this up):

"To think the only way to help players is (to) suspend them for games is a punitive attitude that may not be correct"

"We judge ourselves by our intentions and others by their behavior" Stephen M.R. Covey

“When life knocks you down plan to land on your back, because if you can look up, you can get up, if you fall flat on your face it can kill your spirit” David Wilson

He also said he wasn't going to punish them because they weren't charged by the authorities for any crimes. Which is awesome, once you remember the reasoning the DA gave to not charging them was because they are football players.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

It's always wrong to punish football players, because after all, in punishing them, aren't you also punishing the students and the football fans? And if you punish the students and football fans, aren't you punishing innocent Americans?

That's just wrong.

And who tries to punish Americans? Terrorists. That's right, Terrorists. You think about that Coach Fuente. /s
