Is There Any Particular Reason Why We Don't Play East Carolina in 2021?

I just happened to notice that we play ECU every season until 2025 except for 2021. In 2021, VT's non-conference schedule is:
vs Richmond
vs Michigan
at West Virginia
vs Notre Dame

Anyone know why we skip ECU in 2021? I didn't know if there was a story behind it or if it's just a random schedule quirk.

Genius? Mercy? Pity?

Don't care... I'll take it.

Although, it looks like the Cousins took their place, so....

It’s later than you think.

That is a beautiful non conference schedule.

Notre Dame. We did not know the years of Notre Dame play to set the schedule around them. So they get ECU's spot, because every Alum who didn't attend while Tech played ECU in conference every year, wants them off the schedule.

2021 is an awesome non-conference schedule.

I suppose we can live with bumping ECU for it. (/s)

Pretty ambitious scheduling of you ask me.

Does anyone know what our in conference schedule will be to go with it that year? Will that also be one of the rare years we actually play Clemson or FSU?

With Syracuse as the cross over, seems manageable. Would have been nice on the even year with GT and Miami at home, but I guess the home schedule is already good enough with Michigan and Notre Dame.

That is an awesome schedule. It will be even more so if Mendenhall and Loeffler are still in their current positions.

They did it so that someone would notice, bring it up on a message board, and people could whine about playing ECU some more.

5 years into the future we're wondering why that is the one year we don't have ECU on the schedule....

That season will be one of my most anticipated, just on that OOC schedule alone.

My wife went to Richmond. And by 2021, at least one of the kids will be old enough to go to a game. (Let's see, they should be a few weeks shy of 9 and 5.) So, yeah, that one's been circled for a while.

Plus, round two of the Michigan revenge?

It's probably a good thing they didn't schedule that for a GT/Miami/UVA year.

In addition to having both Notre Dame & Michigan on the 2021 home schedule, it should be pointed out we have 7 home games that season. Additionally, we have 7 home games in 2020 including Penn State, UVA, and Miami. The reseating in 2020 should be fun.
