Wisconsin vs. LSU at Lambeau Field to open 2016 "is going to happen,'' says a UW source, adding Virginia Tech out of '16 scheduling mix.— Andy Baggot (@AndyBaggotWSJ) August 8, 2013
The Hokies are scheduled to host Wisconsin in 2016, and travel to Madison in 2017. The Hokies current non-conference lineup for 2016 is: 9/3 Liberty, 9/10 Wisconsin, 9/17 East Carolina, and ?/? at Notre Dame.

So we got bumped so they could play LSU? That really grinds my gears.
It's all good. We know that at the end of the day, Enter Sandman > Jump Around.
I know, right? At least our fans don't require instructions.
just treadmills
Seems like Weaver is on top of this.
Well that's a first.
We know it's not a Thursday night game
So that gives us Mich/Wisc in one year and Mich/WVU the next. That's great news, if our new goal is to start signing TWO major programs per year as our OOC.
2 Majors + ECU + Local Cupcake = as good as our schedule will ever get (because, you know, we signed ECU until 2045 for some stupid fudging reason)
Is the AAC considered a major conference? Because I could see Weaver lining up Temple.
I was hoping that the "major conf foe" might be Penn State, but I just checked and their 2016-17 schedules are already full
My guess is that he's going to Glennon the shit out of this and announce that it's Louisville.
They'll be in the ACC by then...
Thus him Glennon-ing the shit out of it...
Don't badmouth Glennon - he was a great qb for us, he was a large reason we won the acc those years (not the defense of course), and he's getting a day at TOTS dedicated to him sometime soon
^ Yeah, lay off the guy.
My wife overheard Mike Glennon's name on Sportscenter this morning and immediately screamed, "F--- that guy! Is he related to Sean?" I then proceeded to lay out the case as to why, in hindsight, a lot of people were a little extreme in their vitriol for Sean Glennon's tenure at Tech. I have wondered for while what his career might have been like had he been behind a solid, well-coached offensive line. I'm not trying to start a conversation regarding the reasons why Glennon did and did not succeed, but I think we can all agree one of the reasons why Tyrod's redshirt was burned in consecutive seasons was because Glennon lacked the mobility to survive behind that O-line.
To the contrary, I wonder how much worse his career would have been and how much more hate he would have got if we didn't have the #1 and #4 nationally ranked defense to be his crutch. If he would have had the defense Tyrod had in 2010, then the 10 win streak would have ended a few years before it did.
Maybe they move around a West Virginia or Michigan?
I've heard some possibly semi-reliable rumblings about an on campus home and home with Penn State.
That's not the team I've heard, but I can say everyone will like the matchup.
Are you holding out on us Joe??? :)
Texas A&M, that's my prediction.
USC-e is my non-educated guess
Lets play Alabama again. I see no reason not to, they're gonna want a tiebreaker game after we win this year.
I'd like to see us play Texas or Oklahoma
Let's keep playing with the over-rated B1G. If they start beating VT with consistency, I will change my stance. I just think it's complete BS that most consider the B1G a better football conference than the ACC.
My top choices in no order: Tennessee, UGA, Texas, Texas A&M, Penn State, Stanford, and Nebraska
its gonna be the Georgia bulldogs everyone calm down
bucky fears the turkey
This may sound crazy, but I wouldn't mind a home-away series against Iowa.
Other teams I'd like to see us play:
UW
Fla
PSU
Ore
While part of me wants to upvote this, it kind of reminds me of the "When Worlds Collide" episode of Seinfeld....My lovely spouse is an Iowa grad, and this could make for some rather uncomfortable home moments.
Haha, I get where you're coming from. The second team that I mentioned (Washington) is my wife's team/alumni. ...I would LOVE to demolish them...uncomfortable moments and all.
Isn't this like the fourth time this has happened with Wisconsin? I thought we were lined up to play them when Tyrod was Junior/Senior, then they pushed back for when Bucky would be Junior/Senior, then they push back again and again? Are they just trying to get us at a time when the next Grant Noel is our QB?
Nah, they are waiting for the next Sean Glennon.
Mike Vick does have a son who should be ready by then. They will be sorry they waited.
OOC Opponent Power Rankings:
1. Literally anyone but ECU
2. UGA
3. Tennessee
4. Nebraska
5. Penn State
Could do without Marshall too. Are they both AAC schools now or still Conf USA?
For some reason, that compelled me to make this:

my dream scenario is tennessee or another home and home or nuetral sight with aTm
While this is annoying, it opens up 2017 for ND to make the return trip to Blacksburg after VT plays there in 2016. I don't want to wait forever to see the Irish in Lane.
Hasn't the ACC already announced the rotation for ND and we won't have them in Lane until 2019 or 2020? I remember thinking we were literally the last or next to last team to get a home game against them.
Top 3 choices would be UGA, Tennessee, or Penn State
I'm surprised we've never been able to pull Tennessee in. They don't have a natural OOC rival like UGA, USC or UF do.
And PSU has been rumored for a while.
If we play at PSU, party at my house.
I don't know about everyone else, but a party in a barn sounds awesome.
If I ever meet HorseOnATreadmill it will destroy my world if he is not, in fact, a horse on a treadmill...
I was actually, literally, at a party in a barn two weekends ago.
sounds like you were hot to trot...
Accidential down vote
Upvote to balance out
I just thought that someone was getting sick of the horse puns that seems to be galloping around TKP these days...
My question is WHO would get tired of the Horse puns?
If I had to guess, Zebras, Donkeys, and Camels...except for the camel in the Geico ad, I think he's cool and would find them funny.
Completely random I know...but google Zonkeys. Mix of a donkey and zebra. So cute!!
Upon googling it, I discovered zorses. Sadly, no pictures of zorses on treadmills
The farm 5 minutes from my house had one of those for years. We always thought it was the coolest thing ever. I don't know what happened to it though, if they still had it I'd ask if I could watch it run on a treadmill.
http://laughingsquid.com/ippo-the-baby-zonkey-a-cross-between-a-zebra-an...
So I know donkeys are supposed to be stubborn as hell and have heard that zebras are angry and aggressive (When I lived in Cali there was a report of a farmer shooting a zebra from the Hearst Castle herd because it was attacking his cattle) so zonkey's must be stubborn A-holes.
For those too lazy to Google...
Whoa. I'm in love. Look at the ass...
Best watch yourself, AMB might not take kindly to you horsing around on her..
They are soo cute! Would love to have one. Nice work vtfly ;)
Sick of horse puns? Hold your horses. Don't be a neigh-sayer. Maybe take some cough stirrup if your voice is a little hoarse. That will rein it in. You'll have to pony up for it though, or if you need cash, run it pasture girlfriend.
This is why I'm such a big fan of AMB, she keeps me stable and is my mane attraction. Maybe one day I'll play poker against her in Filly, since it's kinda close to me here in PA, but I'll probably have to foald. Unless we're playing the USCw Trojans that day. I'd be glad to have her as a neigh-bor. Any pal of hers is a palomino. I won't put up with it if she mustang out with the wrong people.
I'd like to thank all you chaps for participating, but I've carriaged this set of puns long enough. I'll have to bite the billet and halter. Good thing I've just finished preparing these horse d'oeuvres.
BAREBACK!
Wow, you really had to dig deep down within yourself to pull all of that out. Never the less, here's an up-vote. Lol
Still couldn't find a way to slip bareback in there without being vulgar, so I had to stick it in the end.
Boom.
Niiiiiice
Up vote:
Stick it in, stick it in, stick it in!
Meow
I am speechless. Funniest thing I've read all day. Bravo!
ummm, would you like some horsey sauce with your bag of oats?
anybody? anybody?
"Any pal of hers is a palomino."
Not sure why, but this line just made laugh out loud at work. Co-workers giving me funny looks right now.
I get this strange feeling that you can't turn this persona off at night and that you are, in fact, morphing into a horse on a treadmill.
Even though we got crushed by them last time, a return trip to LSU would be my #1 choice. That was the most fun I've ever had at a football game (ok, mostly the tailgate, not so much the game).
Penn State and South Carolina would be my other top choices.
My vote would be for USCe, it would likely end my marriage since my wife went there and is die hard but they are on a tear and enjoying the successes that VT had around the 99-00 era. Who wouldn't want to see Beamer and the Head Ball Coach go up against each other. 2016 - The Battle for Bird Supremacy.
I could see the headlines after we beat them in lane.
"Lane was shaking from the battle of the thunder chickens but once the dust settled, the only thunder was the crowd going wild"
My wife is a USCe/College of Charleston grad
She is convinced that USCe is the end all, can't remember a time when they lost a game (that the other team didn't cheat), would have Lattimore's baby today and name it Jadaveon Spurrier the third......
!
No particular order to this but I wouldn't mind:
PSU
UGA
USC-e
Tennessee- I just want to beat the crap out of them again
Texas
aTm
UF- wont happen since they don't travel out of florida
Tennessee, USC-s, UGA, Texas would be who I would like. A recent interview with Gary Stokan sounded like another Kickoff game in Atlanta could be in the future.
This would mean SEC. How about Florida? Watch, it'll end up being Mizzou or Ky.
A Tennessee game will never ever ever happen. Tennessee's administration, despite their turnover, wants no part of playing any team that damages their regional fan base. They have rejected home and homes and neutral site games. The only way the Hokies will play VT will be in Knoxville for a one off or a bowl game.
To me, there are three teams that I would like to see VT play. Playing ECU isn't terrible because VT wants to recruit North Carolina, but I would like to turn back the clock and see the Hokies play some of the regional powers that they played as an independent school.
My top choice is South Carolina. Beating South Carolina gives us huge credibility recruiting against Clemson (who can not beat South Carolina.) We recruit in the area. It is a short trip, and both teams play a physical brand of football. It also would draw a national audience while still being impactful on the ACC regional landscape.
My second choice is Penn State. Again, national exposure, this time against a more traditional power. Penn State is also dealing with the stigma of sanctions, and this could increase VT's footprint in the Keystone State for recruiting.
My third choice is Kentucky. The Hokies played Kentucky often in the 70's and the 80's. This exposes VT in the SEC media markets and despite the lack of success, Kentucky has a strong fan base and a wonderful stadium atmosphere.
I would love playing South Carolina only because of Steve Spurrier. I hate him but he cracks me up all the time. Here he is shirtless and shoeless at practice

The man who once wondered why other NFL coaches spend so much time in their offices instead of on the golf course like he does.
My favorite Steve Spurrier quote (er, paraphrase):
When he heard that there was a fire in the football dorms at Auburn and that 20 books were destroyed, "...the real tragedy is that half of them hadn't been colored in yet."
As a Columbia, SC native I would LOVE to see the Hokies destroy USCe, I dream of such things each night.
Although they would be a good matchup, would USCe or Georgia schedule us when they already play Clemson and GT OOC every year?
Also want to see Tennessee, PSU, aTm, and maybe USCw or Oregon
I still want #BoiseRevenge. I need it.
I'm with you on that one, bro. I would love for Hokies Nation to invade the blue turf and leave it bleeding maroon and orange afterward with sad Broncos laying on the 50 yard line sobbing in fetal position.
and KU.
Chill with the revenge on KU. That's my other school since I was born there, and they suck right now so I promise you that revenge will not be sweet. That was the only year I was able to actually brag about KU football.
My cousins are KU grads (living in Lawrence and KC now). They still give me shit, even though you can count all their wins with your hands since 2009. The best revenge would actually be a win against them in the NCAAB tournament, but that's not going to happen.
Hell, I'd love to get revenge on JMU... I know its not a big or important match up, but I still hear shit about that regularly
That wouldn't accomplish anything. There is no revenge for that game. They're not gonna care if we beat them 100-0 next time we play because they beat us one time.
How about chill with the revenge on KU because.....it's Kansas, who gives a shit. If we played them again, VT could say, 'Hey, we finally got revenge on Kansas for beating us that one time! Yay, right?' and the rest of the world would say, 'You played Kansas? And they beat you? How embarrassing that must have been.'
Hence, why I'd say the best revenge would be a win in the NCAA Men's Bball tournament. But, I'd be up for putting KU on the schedule instead of ECU, Marshall, or other similar caliber school.
I think they UGA would not so sure USC-e would
I'll take a home-and-home with Ole Miss plz
This guy, is not dumb.
Yea I'll take a trip to the grove. Sounds like a fun time
Shun?
edit: Or two games at Ole Miss. I'd go down there twice.
every year?
As much as I want to get revenge on Kansas or Boise, it looks unlikely. I'll go with A&M, Penn State, or South Carolina.
UNM. Need to expand our footprint in the 575.
How about NMSU? My dad is an alum, so that would be a good time for me.
That'd work, too. I grew up not to far from Las Cruses and have quite a few friends there. I went to school closer to Albuquerque though, so I identify more with the Lobos. And I think the Lobos might have a better chance of fielding a respectable team by 2016. Really hoping Bob Davie turns things around over there.
Did you just look up the 575 area code and find the closest university with a D1 football team?
hah nope, actually UNM is 505. The rest of the state is 575, so I guess NMSU would be the closest D1 school. Really, I would just like an excuse to go to NM, and if I'm going out there I would much rather go to Albuquerque than Las Cruses.
Nobody really ever wants to go to Las Cruces. I've guess you've heard the saying, "El Paso is the A-hole of the earth, Las Cruces is 60 miles up it."
Since Swofford wants to expand to the East does Cambridge have a football team?
how bout Michigan state? that would be an interesting game or even how about a matchup versus Oklahoma state somebody who isn't a top power but would still draw attention and leave us with an excellent shot at winning
had the opportunity to go to the Hokie Kickoff Party in Richmond tonight and Bill Roth said it is a Big-time opponent with history/tradition. This makes me think it will be either Penn State, Georgia, or Tennessee.
Big time opponent with history or tradition? Sounds like we might be getting a Texas Aggies series.
I'm confused.
Texas Longhorns?
or
Texas aTm Aggies?
Texas Aggies. No Texan says Texas A&M Aggies, partly because that's a goddamn mouthful, and we talk kinda slow, so nobody has time for all those syllables.
Understandable.
For what its worth, I will never EVER refer to Tech as Virginia Hokies.
EVER.
Oh god, that would be horrible. But there's also no need to say anything but "Hokies." There are at least three schools that are the Aggies. There's only one Hokienation.
Amen.
wrong emphAsis on the wrong syllAbles
I'm kind of ashamed to admit that I get the reference...
It seems to be getting more apparent that this will be an SEC team.
Re: Tennessee
I want a big ooc game on our schedule every year, hopefully in addition to a marquee game. I'd like to think Swofford would go to bat for us with the SEC to bully UT into a regular series, to generate more ACC visibility. The other big ACC schools have SEC rivals (gt-uga, fsu/U-uf, uc-usce); since UVA sucks we should go after one too. Regardless of recent developments, I don't think will see a full black diamond series revival. Tennessee would be a great addition to our schedule pretty much any year, IMO.
And after #BEATBAMA we'll have perfect bargaining leverage!
