OT: METALLICA & National Anthem

Did anyone else happen to catch the intro the Stanley Cup Finals? Metallica made a noteworthy appearance.

I've been present at hundreds of playings of the Anthem over the years, and how artists tend to destroy it has always been a sore spot for me. Metallica nailed it with respect for the song and its meaning, without losing who 'they' are as artists. No exaggerated gestures or showboating, just loud and proud and grateful to be supporting "their" team.

So who wants to start #Metallica2Bristol trend?

Why is this 'off-topic'?

They are just practicing for Bristol.

So who wants to start #Metallica2Bristol trend?

I think you mean #Metallica2Lane so that they're not playing our intro in front of a crowd that has too many of the opponent's fans.

With Bristol being such a show and large venue, seems like it would suit them
being there.

the sponsors and organizers for the Battle at Bristol would never allow it

They have been trying to sell me pregame country tickets for a concert.

that's not my point. The sponsors and organizers for the Battle at Bristol have lots of high level ties to Tenn. I'm certain they are well aware that Enter Sandman is a big part of the VT football culture and as such they would never allow that to interfere with their rocky-top extravaganza. They will most certainly have concerts and they'll be open to anything that isn't pro-VT.....like Metallica.

I agree but screw 'em!

Whit should give Metallica exclusive sideline passes and let them have an impromptu mini concert at just about the time we run onto the field.

Tyrod did it Mikey, Tyrod did it!!

This is accurate. They are pushing Tennessee artists on a Tennessee stage. They are nailing the tourism angle.

Metallica seems to only enjoy doing California sports venues. I don't think they will ever come to Lane or VT related event, sadly. We'd have to play west coast somewhere to have a chance.

Like on January 1, 2018?

It's not going to happen. ESPN would never push for it. I mean, we're only an HONORABLE MENTION for the ACC's best cfb entrance. If we were Clemson though.....
