3* CB Quran Hafiz is announcing his college commitment today at 2pm. He visited us this past weekend, so it looks like this one could end up in our favor.
We only offered him a week ago. How long has he been planning on announcing? If he just decided, that could be a good sign as we offered him, he visited 4 days later, and is declaring 2 days past that.

Highly-regarded CB Quran Hafiz says he's pushing back his announcement "a day or two" to think things over https://t.co/EcTzHbh18w@__Quran4— Corey Bender (@Corey_Bender) June 13, 2016

I'm going to call this one even with the delay. Not sure what it is about, but look at his retweets and recently followed. Included on that list? Justin Fuente and Bud Foster.
Decided to read some of the recent tweets or retweets or whatever they are. Mostly hokies cheering him on with some minnesotta and an iowa state fan or 2. The one duke fan had a profile picture of I believe Greg Paulus, and just said "go duke". Pretty sure I would have crossed duke off my list after that if I was Quran.

We only lost that one kid to Iowa State because of his brother. We surely can't lose another to them without a solid reason. Also, USF is a joke so I'm not even worried about them.

Latest Intel says that it's down to ISU and VT. Normally wouldn't worry about USF but you never know what's going to happen with a kid who's changed his decision date 4 times now.

I took a Psych (Behavior Modification I think) course at VT over the summer of '87 or '88 where we spent a week on that. Not sure how many athletes (if any) were in the class, but it would have been hard to fail that one. They even gave the same multiple choice tests as last year, which everyone seemed to know ahead of time, and that you could look them up in the library.

Considering it looks like that EVERY DAY from October till March yes. The average HIGH in Ames in Jan is 29 while in Blacksburgs it's 42. My wife is from Iowa, her brother went to Iowa State. I've seen what it looks like in winter.

He is ISU bound. The best way to tell where a Cruit will commit, this close to verballing, is by checking their recent Twitter followers. It's a ton of ISU coaches, players and people. I know he had his most recent visit there, but it's telling he hasn't added a few VT connections.

I wouldn't take this one as too much of a hit. I get the sense he wasn't a high priority and we've got a very young defensive backfield right now. While not stacked with blue chips, there's a lot of guys here or coming in rated higher than him. ISU would offer a much quicker path to the field.

Oddly enough, Ames and ISU (where ISU is - I had to look it up) sounds quite similar to Blacksburg and VT
Ames is the home of Iowa State University of Science and Technology (ISU), a public research institution with leading Agriculture, Design, Engineering, and Veterinary Medicine colleges. ISU is the nation's first designated land-grant university,[6] and the birthplace of the Atanasoff–Berry Computer, the world's first electronic digital computer.[7] Ames hosts one of two national sites for the United States Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), which comprises the National Veterinary Services Laboratory and the Center for Veterinary Biologics.[8] Ames is also the home of the USDA's Agricultural Research Service's National Animal Disease Center.[9] NADC is the largest federal animal disease center in the U.S., conducting research aimed at solving animal health and food safety problems faced by livestock producers and the public. Ames has the headquarters for the Iowa Department of Transportation.

I cannot believe how much we struggle with signing the best talent in state, they would get playing time and be close to home. I love recruits from Florida and Georgia but it'd be nice to see the best players in VA stay home, hopefully Hunter can help us gain some momentum with that.

I always do love how we go from practically worshipping the ground a recruit walks on to detailing why didn't really want him and how is no big deal he didn't sign here the second he goes elsewhere

It's all part of coping, I for one think he would have been a good addition. The Jacksonville area seems to be a growing recruiting ground, would like to see more kids out of there.

I don't believe Fuente has had the instant impact that ISU is getting with their recruits. I'm not trying to be critical, but I think its pretty clear.

Shhhhhhhh. Don't jinx it
We only offered him a week ago. How long has he been planning on announcing? If he just decided, that could be a good sign as we offered him, he visited 4 days later, and is declaring 2 days past that.
Just planned his announcement yesterday.
Yeah, but he's not a 4* or 5*....not interested /s
Hurry up and commit to the good guys already! I gotta get some work done today!
He is delaying his announcement.
almost did a google search for cocktease.
glad I didn't.
NVM he moved his annoucement back a few days.
I'm going to call this one even with the delay. Not sure what it is about, but look at his retweets and recently followed. Included on that list? Justin Fuente and Bud Foster.

Edit: He also tweeted our colors as orange and black according to emoji talk https://twitter.com/__Quran4/status/740171660653957120
A reminder to comport ourselves wisely on Twitter & Instagram while a recruit is making a final decision. Don't want to turn him off.
...and don't tweet at recruits.
so you're saying if I'm tempted to tweet at a recruit, I shouldn't just run away, I should retweet? I'll see myself out.
via GIPHY
Quran Hafiz. Didn't Jon Snow kill him to prove to the wildlings that he was truly a deserter of the Night's Watch?
This was my trepidation as well. And if how good can he be if he's only got half a hand?
Latest tweet he says his recruiting is wide open and he is looking at everyone who offered him.
welp....that was bound to happen...b/c...you know...typical
Almost sounds to me like he might have been told that the school he was about to commit to might not have had a space for him

That's at least 4* hair.
Why would you have a pic of Paulus and tweet at a recruit for Duke? Didn't he play football for Syracuse?
#MIXEDMESSAGES
Why would a Duke fan use a picture of a Hokie teabagging Paulus? I'm fairly certain that's the only picture of Paulus in existence.
Hafiz has reset his announcement for tomorrow. It's between VT, USF, and Iowa State.
Iowa State has come up a lot in competition in recruiting in the last year, haven't they?
They have an up-and-coming head coach, just like us. That's probably most of the reason.
Just watched his HUDL. Seems like a good pickup and perhaps underrated.
We only lost that one kid to Iowa State because of his brother. We surely can't lose another to them without a solid reason. Also, USF is a joke so I'm not even worried about them.
Latest Intel says that it's down to ISU and VT. Normally wouldn't worry about USF but you never know what's going to happen with a kid who's changed his decision date 4 times now.
to be fair, you never really know with any 17-18 year old kid trying to make a big decision
$20 says he picks Tennessee :-(
"HEY! NO! NNNNO!" exclaimed H_ighlander_okie, shoo-ing off sad thoughts and bad joo-joo.
USF is in Florida, though. And the academic requirements are less stringent.
Don't they have a class on Deep Breathing aka Meditation?
I took a Psych (Behavior Modification I think) course at VT over the summer of '87 or '88 where we spent a week on that. Yeah, but Tampa.....
Hey hey hey. Other than taking 3 showers a day...it's not that bad.
Yeah, why would anyone with an 18 year old athlete's libido ever want to go there?
not to mention a lot closer to home for him. if that's important to him. which it is to some recruits.
He Visited Iowa State in last week I believe. Not sure if this is good or bad.
Someone send him this:

That's different from a Blacksburg winter?
Considering it looks like that EVERY DAY from October till March yes. The average HIGH in Ames in Jan is 29 while in Blacksburgs it's 42. My wife is from Iowa, her brother went to Iowa State. I've seen what it looks like in winter.
Joe isn't this the dead period how does that work?
He is ISU bound. The best way to tell where a Cruit will commit, this close to verballing, is by checking their recent Twitter followers. It's a ton of ISU coaches, players and people. I know he had his most recent visit there, but it's telling he hasn't added a few VT connections.
He also just added the USF head Coach? While I'm leaning towards him picking ISU, for whatever reason, it's not a foolproof system.
Looks like safety from his film
Trying to understand why someone would commit to ISU rather than VT.
Playing time
I wouldn't take this one as too much of a hit. I get the sense he wasn't a high priority and we've got a very young defensive backfield right now. While not stacked with blue chips, there's a lot of guys here or coming in rated higher than him. ISU would offer a much quicker path to the field.
Ahh, makes it easier to understand. And that's a good way to look at it.
I think he was a pretty high priority we just got outsold by the new ISU staff.
Oddly enough, Ames and ISU (where ISU is - I had to look it up) sounds quite similar to Blacksburg and VT
But its iowa...ive met people from the state who hate it... Shit ive met people from the state who went to wisconsin to get away from it.
...and they don't have Beach Flow.
All the CB's on 247 are shifting to ISU.
Quite prescient, those CB guys...I am completely amazed. s/
Is it time to start talk of stashing the CBs in the same closet as the empty MNC display case?
Yea but he really isn't that good anyways, he'll probably never pan out, he really wasn't a high priority, etc...
/s
Don't forget about the character issues
/s
Yeah. Being a CB, he'll probably get busted for pot or something right before he gets his big chance to shine. /s
Optimist. ,:--)
I think Torian didn't say hello to his mom /s
Hopefully when we sign Devon Hunter, this won't matter.
At least we wont have to hear the horrible Raycom announcers butcher his name...
Speaking of Raycom, do we have an ACC (TV) Network yet?
Good luck to him. Ames is a nice place (well, as long as you don't count Nov-March).
Trying to understand how ISU's recruiting is going so well.
Same reason ours is (or will be). They have a new, young coach who was successful elsewhere.
I don't believe Fuente has had the instant impact that ISU is getting with their recruits. I'm not trying to be critical, but I think its pretty clear.
I think the biggest thing I've seen is the amount of offers they have put out, over 300 to date.
Didn't know about the Matt Campbell hire.
