Virginia Tech picked up its second commit on Saturday, and another verbal from a Georgia, when Malik Willis pledged to join the Hokies' 2017 recruiting class.
I wanna thank God, my family, and friends for pushing me to work hard and be humble Iwant to say I'm committed to Virginia tech #gohokies— alik Willis (@Willis_Malik7) June 18, 2016
WR/CB Henri Murphy committed to the Hokies earlier in the day, and fellow Georgia product TE/OL Lecitus Smith announced for Tech on Wednesday.
The 6-2, 185 pound Roswell, HS (Atlanta, GA) athlete worked out at the Hokies' satellite camp in Atlanta earlier in June.
"Their response to my camp performance was great," Willis told Rivals.com. "It helped working with them on the field because it gave me an idea of how they like to teach and it gave them an idea of how I receive coaching."
Willis plays quarterback, but projects at wide receiver or defensive back for Tech. A recent camp performance caught the eye of Rivals analyst Woody Wommack.
I was surprised by... Class of 2017 Roswell, Ga. athlete Malik Willis has several FBS offers to play quarterback, but on Wednesday night he elected to work out at defensive back. Not only did he hold his own, he looked like he could have quite the future at that position if he decides. Willis is still holding out hope for bigger offers at quarterback, but he could end up seeing Power Five interest as a defensive back.
Willis is rated as a 3-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite.

He definitely looks to be a shifty and elusive runner. Also he exhibits good ball handling while running. He looks to be a 'Fuente fit'; I look forward to seeing him in the orange and maroon!
"Willis" is close enough to "Willys" to get the Jeep seal of approval.
whatchoo talkin bout?
Speed Kills. Reminds me of the old expression "If you aren't the lead dog, the view is always the same". :--)
Now all we need is some strength in linemen in this class, or as the old lady used to say on the commercial "Where's the beef ?".
If you aren't first you're last!
Another way of saying: "Second is the first looser".
So 3 players from our first out of state satellite camp? Keep it up Fuente, you are definitely earning my trust and hope!
Who were others from the ATL camp?
If you're including Murphy and Smith, they both had offers on the table already.
My bad, I was confused. I try not to follow recruiticorns to closely until they are on campus, old ticker can only take so much...
He didn't capitalize the "t" though /s
I continue to like these out of state recruits coming in. Seems we are getting a lot of speed, demonstrating another difference between Fuente & Lefty's offenses.
I know some complain that we aren't getting big star guys, but it's obvious we are getting system guys.
It looks like we are recruiting a lot of fast athletes, but is anyone concerned that we are not seeing many recruits for the defensive side of the ball?
My concern is the OL, which is pretty standard.
I'm with you there. My limited knowledge of football tells me that you need OLinemen if you want to be successful.
I believe he is being recruited to play defense per the article. It would be nice to get some more big guys on the commit list, on both sides of the ball, but I am not really concerned about it yet, its still early in the recruiting season. I have heard it is even harder to evaluate big guys without getting them into camp because many of them do not face similar sized opponents on film, or you do not know how big they will get until at least their junior year, making it harder to get as far in front with them on recruiting.
Proud of how he played today! haha Didn't see this happening back in 2016!!! Funny how the future can absolutely suck!
Holy resurrected thread, batman!
This original thread...didn't age well. Yikes.
LMAO!
With all respect to him and he balled out, he won't be an NFL QB. However, with his athleticism and speed, who knows if he'd given it a shot as a DB.
Look we made front page news on my browser!
We Suck Again!
Edit: we just made Fox News. They replayed the FG attempt and block. The reporter said laughingly they iced their own TD. We are such a joke.
