Virginia Tech backer target Jaylen Griffin informed The Key Play on Wednesday he had decommitted from Cal. Griffin, who verbally committed to the Golden Bears on May 27, released a statement later in the day.
"After much discussion with my parents, it seems I may have prematurely made a decision to commit to CAL and thus have decided to decommit," Griffin wrote in a tweet. "I would like to reopen my recruitment to any college that is interested and would have me as a student athlete. I humbly thank Coach Dykes and staff for believing in me and offering such a great opportunity."
The 6-2, 220 pound Rome (Ga.) HS product added he has "high interest" in Boston College, Cal, Colorado State, Louisville and Virginia Tech. Griffin visited Blacksburg over the weekend and came away impressed with the Hokies and head coach Justin Fuente.
"Out of all the colleges, he's really the first head coach to actually sit down and talk to me like that, that was pretty cool to me," Griffin told The Key Play. "He's a very cool, laid-back guy."
Griffin — a 247Sports Composite 3-star prospect — plans to return to Tech with his family on July 23.

The fact that he did this right after visiting us has to mean something right? Right?! Guys....?
I also like the solid family visit date rather than just "the future."
EVERYBODY OVERREACT! :)
Yeah, it means he'll commit to Tennessee.....
At his age, with all this attention... commit, decomit, it's par for the course.
There are at least two options here:
It seems that you jumped straight to option 2 for no reason.
Another board about my sex life. :-(
We're gonna need some evidence of the other boards...
2/12 landing spots seem like a happy ending, I'd take those odds.
Just make sure you're leaning to the right when you jump. Do what it takes to increase those odds.
Hate it when I "loose" a turn
It's the shoulder stripes. He's used to wearing them in high school, and he saw that we wear them. That's got to be what swayed him. /s

It's great how we're getting attention from players like this.
Cal's a top school and it's nice to be considered along with them.
Is that how far we've fallen? Just happy to be in the conversation with the 4th best team in California?
Cal is consistently rated the #1 public university in America. Not too shabby
I have to admit I did not know that, but I'd still like to think we don't consider it a victory just to be in the running with Cal for an east coast kid. UVa must also be very high on that list but I don't think we've accomplished anything by being mentioned in the same sentence as them by a recruit
Edit: I did not intend to compare Cal football to UVa football, should any Cal fans read this. That would be an unforgivable insult. Strictly a comparison of academics.
And no worse than the 2nd worst public university football team...
California girls and the weather. Tough competition.
Berkeley girls?
You don't want Berkeley girls.
San Francisco Bay weather?
San Fransicko Leather Fest & Parade? I keed i keed
I... uh... words..... not....
um.....what were we talking about?
Qualified for her job.
Hey, wasn't she in some sort of a softcore once, that I've never ever seen in my entire life...ever?
That's a Berkley girl...Elizabeth Berkley... anyone?...

She has a very good plastic surgeon.
Hope we get this guy. Not 100% sure but I heard #sauces that Lydon isn't with the team anymore. Won't help us for this year but we need LB depth for the future.
Are there any stats out there about how often a recruit recommits/ signs with the school he decommitted from? What are the odds he ends up at Cal? I would guess it's pretty low.
I don't know if there are any stats but this player recomitted 3 times.........and decommitted 3 times........to the same school

When a player de-committs from another school, they are a young kid who recognizes they made a mistake and deserve the chance to atone for it by coming to VT.
When a player de-commits from VT they are wishy-washing, lacking commitment and conviction, and would likely be a cancer to the program if they did come here. Unless they recommit, in which case see above.
