Good to see a 2 year deal.

Nice! Any news on Erick Green?

stick it in, stick it in, stick it in!

Last I saw he was back in the D-League after Utah called him up on a 10 day this past spring and then let him go. He's listed as a free agent so I assume he's still going to shoot for a camp invite later this summer and if that doesn't pan out, go back to the D-League or possibly head to Europe. As far as other Hokies in the NBA, I think Jarrell Eddie is still under contract with the Wizards.

Erick green will play with the Trail Blazers in the Summer League, as Jarell Eddie will play with the Wizards in the summer league. Malcolm Delaney will not participate in the Summer league which indicates the Hawks faith in him.

Put in Donlon

Really hope/wish Green gets a serious opportunity.

My dude! I'm happy for this guy. He was a beast for the good guys and I hope he tears it up in the NBA.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

Great news. He was one of my favorites

No money mentioned, hope he is getting some NBA Monopoly money.

Get it Malcolm...get that cabbage!

Does this mean he's actually on the team? Or just a preseason roster? (like the NFL)

It's guaranteed money so that typically means he will be on the opening night roster come October. His salary is a low figure (I've read 4 mil from nonconfirmed sources) so buyouts could be possible but its safe bet that his roster spot is set. Go ahead and buy your ATL Delaney jerseys!

Better than the $800k he was criticizing a couple years ago. Looked around after I posted, found some local reaction:

Charles Odom at Yahoo, saying deal is for only $1.49Mil. Guess Malcolm really wanted a shot at the NBA to walk away from the money he was making in Europe. Hopefully deal allows him to opt out after first season if he does even relatively well. Consider guys like Jared Dudley who averaged 7.8ppg last year just signed a three year $30mil contract with the Suns.

Hawks fans excited they got an actual euro starter they can develop instead of a $10mil backup salary cap anchor.

I've heard that for a good portion of the american guys that are playing in europe that they would gladly take the NBA minimum over the millions they earn in Europe. The main reason being the prestige of saying "I'm an NBA player," but others include being in a country where English is the native language, being closer to home, playing against better competition, etc.

They'll really get after ya

The main reason being the prestige of saying "I'm an NBA player,"

I don't think it's "prestige" per se...I'll put it this way, I don't think many kids in the Bronx dream about playing for CSKA Moscow.

No pizza, only khlav kalash!

Now what do you have to wash that awful taste out of my mouth...

I mean Kosmonot Hodor was paying him pretty good.

Yeah my understanding was that his Russian club had offered another one year, essentially $6mil deal. So $750K is quite a payout. Flipside is that if he can opt out of year two and has a good season this year he could rate a big contract that covers what he walked away from considering the funny money the NBA is throwing around. Heard next year's max deals will reach possibly the $37mil per season mark.

Sounds like here that Odom was wrong on the financials as Malcolm is indicating he is going to be close to his Lokomotiv salary from last season and that his hope is to make a big impact and get one of those life changing deals. Interesting read to hear it directly from Malcolm.

Delaney said his two-year contract is worth a total of "way over $2 million," including a salary greater than the NBA minimum of $543,471 for the 2016-17 season.

"I was never going to come back to play for minimum," he said.

He said he will be making about the same salary for Atlanta in 2016-17 as he made with Lokomotiv this year but "a little less" than he could have made by remaining overseas next winter.

Delaney said the Hawks want him to be their backup point guard but will also give him some time at off-guard.

"How the salary cap is now is motivating me to try to go in and play well and set myself up and my family up for the rest of our lives," Delaney said. "The NBA is a game-changer. You get in there, you play well and you get one of those big contracts for four or five years β€” that's the dream, not just playing in the NBA. For me, just being on an NBA court was never a dream. I want to be able to make an impact on the team and get what I'm worth as well.

Alright! You go Delaney! You make dat ca$h mahnee!

That's awesome news for Dulaney. He was one of my all-time favorite Hokie ballers and Seth is right, nobody worked harder and is more deserving of this opportunity than Malcolm. Been following him since his days at Towson Catholic, and I was so glad he decided to become a Hokie. A class act dude for sure. Even though he's got tons of talent, he's kinda the poster boy for perseverance in getting to the NBA, and I'm sure he's not going to let the opportunity slip away. Congratulations Malcolm!

Time to bet on Atlanta winning a championship, given Delaney's recent history.

Or at least he'll be their MVP. Hey oh!

WOOT WOOT

Cant wait to go watch him play!

agreed -I had a casual interest watching and now further enticed, what-with the ODU interest rooting (glad to see them re-upping and then the quality "thanks" to ATL fans) for Bazemore... and if MD23 can understand the Spurs-style of team basketball, he really could flourish...

might even lug the clan down to Phillips to catch a few this year... who knows? maybe Dwight finally grows up!

"...sticks and stones may break my bones but I'm gonna kick you repeatedly in the balls Gardoki!"

Love me some Baze, guys brings it hard, every game.

Ive seen him out at my local golf course with P Millsapps a few times. Great dude.

Q and A with Hawks guard Malcolm Delaney: http://www.ajc.com/news/sports/basketball/q-and-a-with-hawks-guard-malco...

Q. You say it was a long journey to the NBA. Can you describe the process of not being drafted, going overseas and now getting to the NBA? Did you ever get down that you would get this chance?

A. No. After my senior year in college, I thought I deserved to be drafted but I wasn't. I had a good agent. We came up with a plan for 3-4 years. He said we want teams to come after us. We don't want to chase the NBA. After my third year overseas, I started seeing it. I had an opportunity from Houston but my team didn't let me out (of contract). The plan started working. I got more comfortable with it and started following the plan.

Going out and getting MVPs and trophies doesn't hurt.

For anyone not really paying attention to the NBA, like myself, I just checked the stats, looks like Delaney is averaging 16.5 minutes per game with the Hawks, 5.8 ppg, has had 3 games in double digits so far

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Always nice to see Hokies go on to do well in any sport. Might start watching some Hawks games now.

Even if he only scratches out a few years as a 7th man, if he saves well he will be set for life. Has anyone contacted him about joining the Hokie Club?

FOE! I had seen that but wondered what it meant. Great article.

Wishing Vincent and the family the best!

Not sure what his goals are at this point, but seems like he should go back to Europe and make a lot of money.

he is very much against going back to Europe.

Delaney has agreed to a deal with the Guangdong Southern Tigers in the Chinese Basketball Association.
