"In my mind, Im just doing stuff thats going to make me a better football player and help this team, Rogers said. "I can care less about individual accolades. I just know what I can do on the field to help this team win."
How can you NOT love this kid. You need these kinds of players to win championships.

I read his article not too long before I read 01_Hokie's post about "A Champions Mentality" on TKP. I kept thinking how different Rogers is to Facyson. Seems one is all about the team doing well and not getting individual accolades, while Facyson is on the other end of the spectrum. I'd choose Rogers mentality any day. You have to love that this kid walked on here, and will sacrifice for the team. I'm sure he will be on scholarship before he graduates. Reminds me of Engelberger.

Understand what you're saying but I read Facyson's comments more in regards to him challenging himself. David Wilson made a list of impossible goals every year and lots of those had to do with personal accolades. I don't think Facyson is saying he is not team first but that he has a desire to be the best at what he's doing and he measures that by 1rst Team recognition, etc. That being said I agree that Sam Rogers is different. He is 100% team first and will enjoy what comes his way as an afterthought. Most walk-on's turned starters have the very same attitude and that is probably a big reason why they succeed.

Its not that Facyson doesn't care about the team, he just really wants to succeed
