VT Baseball: Jamie Pinzino Named Associate Head Coach

Looks like Whit has been busy recently. Between creating Buzz's extension, shooting down Baylor rumors, and touring the world, now this:

Virginia Tech head coach Patrick Mason announced the addition of 15-year coaching veteran Jamie Pinzino to his staff as associate head coach. Pinzino spent the past three seasons as the pitching coach at Oklahoma, where he served under former Tech head coach Pete Hughes. Pinzino owns a 212-174 career record as a collegiate head coach.

Prior to his stint at Oklahoma, Pinzino served as the head coach at William & Mary, where his squad set program records with 39 wins and 17 conference victories in 2013 as The Tribe earned its third invitation to the NCAA Tournament, its first since 2001, and advanced to the Raleigh Region finals. Pinzino was named both the 2013 Colonial Athletic Association Co-Coach of the Year and the VaSID Coach of the Year.

Looks like we're injecting a little life into our baseball program after a disappointing year. Welcome, Coach Pinzino, and go Hokies!

Could this be a hidden head-coach-in-waiting?

My thoughts exactly

I am the heartbeat of Blacksburg. A fortress built out of stone but made with champions.

First thing that came to mind.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

To me this comes across as a very similar move to when Mike London hired Tom O'Brien.

What an interesting career path

Baseball people, how should I feel about this?

Outspoken team cake advocate. Hates terrapins. Resident Macho Man Gif Poster. Distant cousin to Dork Magic. Frequently misspells words.

I'm wondering the same thing.

It is difficult to say. On the one hand he is a good coach that could bring valuable experience and insight. On the other hand I'm not sure if it lead to significant improvement. Pitching was a huge problem, leaving the Hokies with no ability to close out games or even keep the score close enough to give them a chance. I don't think thise will fix the other problems though, like the defensive errors that plagued the team. I really think the team needs a culture change because right now it has players that aren't 100% invested in winning games.
