Tim Settle returning punts might not be such a daft idea after all. Another video of the behemoth defensive tackle's extraordinary athleticism made its way to Twitter.

The redshirt freshman stepped on the gas and hit a solid pursuit angle to track down the ball carrier.
The Hokies' current roster lists Settle at 344 pounds. He weighed 340 during spring ball. His ideal playing weight is 330. He may indeed have the lightest feet of any 340 pounder ever. However, in order for Settle to realize his potential as a game changer at defensive tackle for the Hokies this season, he'll have to manage his weight.
"He's really watching what he's eating, but he has to if he wants to perform at this level and perform more than a couple plays," said Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster in April. "That's where when he's going well, going good, he's hard to handle inside because he's big, because he's twitchy, he can get off on the ball. But all of a sudden, he gets tired...But once you get him pushing and get him rolling, it's like a big ol' ball moving."

Followed by this when he reaches the ballcarrier

That's some serious inertia. A Big ol' (wrecking) ball, alright...fueled by pie. Oh yeah!
That's as contagious as laughter gets. Got me smiling for reasons completely unrelated to football.
The team seems very pumped up. Hope they are having fun and getting prepped for the fall.
Anybody have an idea who he chased down?
Actual perspective of opposing WR and RB this season:
This browser does not support video playback
IT has all the admin rights, I am stuck with IE
Me too :(
Holy Snikees, that is a lot of beef moving. If I was an opposing QB I would be shitting my pants right about now...
If I saw that coming at me, the sideline is your only friend! Or run the other way (If you choose to get up after he mskes contact)
I'm going to be that guy, but I'm pretty sure Tim Settle is a really good example of why blue chippers are necessary to compete at the top level of cfb. FSU/Clemson are going to be getting at least 1 Tim Settle at almost every position....every year.
ugh can someone link the tweet? I cant get the video to pull up from here. thanks
thanks joe you da man!
I really want to see him line up as a punt returner at least once this season. Even if it's just to mess with the other coach's head and you don't intend to actually let him return it. I want to see if the punter even dares to kick it near a guy that scary.
I've never enjoyed reading an article title that much.
MAXIMUM EXCITE
Cant wait to see Tim and Woody line up next to each other this year. Biggest size difference in DTs in the country
What an athlete (no sarcasm whatsoever)
apparently that was DJ Reid who got caught by big TIM.
What about big Tim playing some FB.

What weighs 345 and will catch you? @tim_settle https://t.co/K7eatis88j— Coach Doc (@mdoc376) July 15, 2016
.
That is excellent news if he weighs 329. The most recent roster lists him at 344, but he definitely looked slimmer than that. (I've noticed the roster online has become more unreliable over the last couple of years.) Tim wants to play at 330, but last year Frank mentioned 300 would be an ideal weight.
I don't ever see him at 300...nor would I want to. 330 with speed and agility is a rare combo. Extremely rare top 10 pick rare. Just get his conditioning straight and don't worry about his weight, and as he lifts more he isn't going to lose weight there either.
It is a really rare combo. Every time I read about big Tim or see a video of him I immediately think of Vince Wilfork. I hope big Tim continues to work hard so he can reach his full potential. He seems like a guy who gets his teammates energized.
On a side note if you did not read the ESPN interview with Vince Wilfork about the body issue, I highly recommend it. I hate ESPN but it was a really interesting interview.
Pretty sure the most recent rosters only added the incoming summer freshman, and Adonis/Gaines. All heights and weights from players already on the team didn't change that I saw
I wouldn't be surprised if the 300 number was more motivational tactic then anything. He may know it's unrealistic, but having him shoot for 300 gives him a better shot of hitting 320 (or whatever the target may be).
They better play him and play him a lot. A man with that amount of size and agility has first round draft pick written all over it I doubt he sees 4 years at Tech
I agree, I'm extremely excited for him to see the field. I'm very happy he came to Tech. Even still, he has to be able to play 10 or 11 plays in a drive and many/most of the drives in the game. I love his burst coupled with his size, but at some point size can be a detriment to endurance.
Totally agree. In order for them to "play him a lot", he has to be able to actually play a lot. Hard not to get excited about him, though. Even situationally, he'll be a force to recond with. If conditioning is a problem, he will recognize that, and if he is on an NFL track, which certainly seems likely, he will realize what he needs to do to make it happen, and he will have the resources, nutritionally, training and coaching-wise, to get that done. Looking forward to a highlight filled career from big Tim.
Just out of curiosity, I know tim settles success will be huge for us landing future blue chippers along the DL, how did nebraska fair along DL recruiting after Suh graduated? Did they kick butt for a few years? I hope settle nails it and we start being able to use that success to help recruit other guys
Suh graduated in 2009..
2009 D Line commits- 4* Jason Ankrah 11th ranked DE in class and now playing for Tennessee Titans. Thaddeus Randle 3* & Cole Pensick 3*
2010 D Line commits- 4* Chase Rome 21st ranked DT in class, 3* Donovan Vestal and 3* Jay Guy
2011 D Line commits- 4* Todd Peat 24th ranked DT in class, Kevin Williams 3* now at MSU ( won 6th year eligibilty war vs NCAA) Joseph Carter 3* JUCO transfer 33rd best JUCO recruit
If VT could pull 1 4* D-Linemen every year that would be fantastic.
And thats ignoring the point that nebraska doesnt have a fertile recruiting ground within the tri state area
He'll save everyone of us!
Oh he's gonna be putting a HURTIN on opposing players this season. I concur with the voice in the vid:
"WOO-HOO-HOO-HOO! WOO-HOO-HOO-HOO! WOO-HOO-HOO-HOO! WOO-HOO-HOO-HOO!!!
Wow! Just imagine if he were aerodynamic...
He IS aerodynamic! Look at the vid again and watch it in mega slow time.
He's too much like a Jeep Wrangler. Slope that windshield and he could get better gas mileage.
In Settle's case, I'll gladly pay for the extra gas. Send me the bill.
Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG. Shouldn't be that fast because of its weight, and yet you do NOT want to race one lest you get embarrassed.
You wrote S but I think you meant G65 in this case. 6.0 liter twin-turbo V12 with 621hp and 738lb.ft of twisty juice. All in one of the least aerodynamic packages ever.
Leg for the use of 'twisty juice'. Haha and yes, the G-wagen is basically a very fancy and very fast refrigerator box on wheels and I want it.
The AMG G series does have a 621 hp twin-turbo v-12...so that does overcome a bit of the aerodynamic issues.
There is no such thing as too much like a Wrangler.
It wasn't an insult. Wranglers are still my favorite vehicle. But you have to admit, they're a little hard to drive 70mph on the interstate in high winds.
Plus for a DT that's a good thing. I'd rather have OLs and RBs running into a Wrangler than an Accord.
Great video, but it's still tough to make any definitive conclusions about his speed. Can we see this plotted on the Alonzo Tweedy Speed Chart?
WHEEELS!!! Can't wait to see the destruction in this dude's wake!
I misread the headline as: "MASSIVE DEFENSIVE TACKLE TIM SETTLE SHOWS OFF HIS HEELS" As in high heels. I was really confused why everyone was excited until I figured out my mistake.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Whatever it takes to make him feel powerful and confident.
If the offense can limit the number of three and outs in this uptempo play, our big boys should be just fine. I know that has been a big IF in the past but times are changing.
